: Thank you for agreeing to talk about your reading habits. Could you tell us what your
favourite book is and why?
: Sure but it's difficult to pinpoint one favourite book because there are so many that I've
enjoyed reading for different reasons. However, I would say that the works of Haruki
Murakami are truly original and magical. I have yet to be disappointed. But, if I have to
pick an all-time favourite, it would be To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. This
story of blind prejudice told through the eyes of an innocent child is breathtaking in
every way. A great story well told.
: Was there a book you could not finish?
: Yes, it would be The Two Towers of the Lord of the Rings series.
: Could you tell us the reason for this?
: The endless descriptions of the forest, river, boulders and sky wore me out. I think it
would be more interesting to watch the movie.
: Would you like to name a character from a book you wish you were?
: Well, I would probably go for Fred and George Wesley in the Hogwart's School of
Witchcraft and Widzardry. They are wonderfully entertaining and charming pranksters.
: Lastly, I would like to know the most romantic book you have ever read.
: Hmmmm I would choose Anne of Green Gables series written by L.M.Montgomery.
: That's my favourite series too. Thank you for your time.

SECTION C
Question 4
Read the text about an unfortunate and humorous incident.
Steamboat dinners, dim sum lunches and nasi lemak breakfasts are all too familiar with
expatriates in Malaysia these days. But, not so 35 years ago!
A foreign correspondent with a news agency had just settled in Kuala Lumpur and he
wanted to invite a few journalists and diplomats to his new home for dinner. Earlier, he had gone
to Chinatown to purchase a charcoal-powered steamboat.
The guests arrived and everyone was enjoying the cool evening and the drinks in the
garden while a few female guests were in the kitchen helping the hostess prepare the food. Soon,
dinner was ready and all gathered round the dining table to tuck in. It was into the second bowl of
the goodies, third for a few, that there was a cracking sound. Lo and behold! The steamboat sank
into the table!
There was mild alarm and bewilderment but the cause for the commotion was found after
they took a peek under the table. It appeared that the host had forgotten to place the protective
steel plate below the steamboat and the charcoal had burned through the wooden table!
Everyone was rolling with laughter including the host and hostess after they had recovered

What is this life if full of care,

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like stars at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
