Ways to Practice Your Spelling Words - Get to 100 Points!!!

All activities must be completed and submitted together on Friday before the spelling test. (Loose items should
be secured with a staple, paper clip or rubber band.) Please include this sheet, indicating each activity
completed and its point value listed.
Write the activity name and its point value on the heading of each page.

10 Point Activities (these activities need a parent signature to verify you completed it)
_____ 1. Sidewalk Spelling: using sidewalk chalk, write your words outside.
_____ 2. Backrub Spelling: Have a parent call out the spelling words to you, and spell them on their back.
_____ 3. Scrabble Spelling: Play a game of Scrabble, using your spelling words.
_____ 4. Cheerleader Spelling: Pretend you are a cheerleader and call our your words!
_____ 5. Pasta Words: Spell out your words using alphabet pasta (or cereal)
_____ 6. 3D Words: Use modeling clay or Play-Doh rolled thinly to make your words.
_____ 7. Delicious Words: Spray a small amount of whipped cream (or anything you can eat) on a plate and
spread it out. Write your words in the whipped cream and be sure to clean up afterwards!

20 Point Activities
_____ 8. ABC Order: write your words in cursive in alphabetical order.
_____ 9. Reversed Words: write your words in ABC order—backwards!
_____ 10. Rainbow Words: Write your words with vowels in one color and consonants in another color.
_____ 11. Picture Words: Draw and color a picture and hide your words in the picture.
_____ 12. Technology Words: Type your word list. Each word must be a different font OR color.
_____ 13. Triangle Words: Write your words adding or subtracting one letter at a time. The result will be
a triangle shape of words.

_____ 14. Choo Choo Words: Write your words in one long line using a different color for each word.
_____ 15. Other Handed Spelling: If you are right handed, write your spelling words using your left hand.
If you are left handed, write your spelling words using your right hand.

30 Point Activities
_____ 18. Silly Sentences: Write sentences using words beginning with the letters from your words.
(Example: “computer” – Carrie Olsen made pizzas until the emperor rang.)
_____ 19. Ransom Words: Write your words by cutting out letters in a newspaper or magazine and gluing
them onto your paper beside your handwritten word.
_____ 20. Magazine Words: Use an old magazine or newspaper and find your word (the whole word). Cut it
out, and glue them onto your paper beside your handwritten word.
_____ 21. Part of Speech: Write your words on paper, then write the part of speech next to the word.
_____ 22. Syllable Spelling: Write your words on the paper, the separate according to the syllables in the
word. (Example: fun-ny).
_____ 23. Word Search: Make and complete a word search on www.puzzlemaker.com.
_____ 24. Spelling City: Go to www.spellingcity.com and click on ‘Find A List’. Type in ‘Brasher’, then select

40 Point Activities
_____ 26. Acrostic Poem: Choose one of your spelling words. Write an acrostic poem for that word. You
must also illustrate your poem.

_____ 27. Story Words: Write a short story using all of your words.
_____ 28. Secret Agent Words: Write a code for each letter of the alphabet. Then, write your spelling
words, with the secret code written next to it.
_____ 29. Telephone Words: Write your words, then translate your words into numbers from a telephone
keypad.
_____ 30. Word Worth: Each letter has a value: consonants are worth 10 and vowels are worth 5.
Write your spelling words, then add up the value for each word. (Example: said
10+5+5+10=30)
_____ 31. Comic Words: Create a comic strip using the words.
_____ 32. Crossword: Make and complete a crossword puzzle using www.puzzlemaker.com.
_____ 33. TV Commerical: Write a TV commercial for your favorite toy using at least 10 of your spelling
words. Read it to a parent or sibling! (Please attach the written commercial to this
packet.)
_____ 34. Create A Game: Make a fun game that uses all of your words. Include illustrations and be
prepared to explain it to the class and play it with a classmate. ☺
_____ 35. Make Some Music: Write a song or a rap that includes your words! Share with a friend or family
member, and don’t forget to attach it to the packet!
