The XXXX Family is a typical nuclear type of family consist of the father, Mr.
Ronald who is a construction worker. Mrs. Carlisa, a full time housewife and
their 3 year old son Mark Jhon. Mrs. Carlisa is currently 6 months pregnant
and is expected to give birth on the 3rd week of October.
Mr. and Mrs. XXXX dont have a hard time in terms of decision making
because each of them tend to consider each others opinion first before
coming up with the final decision especially regarding health matters. The
father is the head and breadwinner of the family while the mother takes care
of the household chores and their son Mark Jhon.

B. Socio-Economic and Cultural Characteristics

Low educational background seems to be an obstacle for Mr. Ronald to get a
good job. He never finished high school education and was forced to work as
a construction worker receiving only P325 per day. On the other hand Mrs.
Jessica was fortunate enough to high school but decided to stay at home to
take good care of their first born child.
Mr. Ronalds monthly income is approximately P6,500 per month just enough
to pay for their monthly rent, electricity bill, food and milk allowance and
transportation expense. Most of the time, the budget for health maintenance
is being sacrifice and not given enough priority due to lack of money.
According to Mrs. Carlisa, she spends P200 per day to meet their daily basic
needs.
The XXXs are basically from Camague, Iligan City the hometown of Mr.
Ronald but they decided to transfer their residency in Raw-an, Baroy, Lanao
del Norte which is Mrs. Carlisas hometown to avoid high cost of living in the
city. The family is an active member of the National Household Targeting
System for Poverty Reduction and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
C. Home and Environment
The family resides in Brgy. Raw-an Point, Baroy, Lanao del Norte. Their house
is made up of wood and light materials. The floor area is approximately 17sq.
meters. The family sleeps together in a wooden bed with foam situated near
the entrance door which also serves as their receiving area. They usually
sleep very early at around 8 p.m. and wakes up at 5a.m. The house is not
well ventilated and there is inadequate lighting. Breeding sites for
mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, and rodents are inevitable due to open
drainage and poor environmental sanitation. Their toilet facility is located at
the back of their house. There is no water supply in the area so Mr. Ronald
needs to fetch water from their neighbor around 20 meters away from their
house. Mrs. Carlisa buys their food in the market (Baroy Public Market in
2

Poblacion) and stores it in an uncovered cabinet leaving it exposed to germ

and bacteria. She usually cooks vegetable and fish dishes. They dont
practice garbage segregation and they usually throw it at the back of their
house and burned it or throw it at the sea.
Tricycle and single motor roam around as their means of transportation while
Mr. and Mrs. XXX both have their own cellular phone as their means of. A
small sari-sari stores are also visible within the vicinity.
The overall surrounding of the family is less-hygienic and the drainage
system is open.
The nearest available neighbor to them is about 2 meters away that makes
their area slightly congested. A barangay health unit that is around a
hundred meters away from their house.

D. Health Status of Each Family Member

Mrs. Carlisa is in six months of her pregnancy to her second child and is
expected to give birth on the third week of October. Her first pre-natal checkup was done a months ago and was had her second visit a week ago during
the visit of their rural health midwife. Her development was closely
monitored because according to her, she had a hard time delivering her first
child due to hypertension. She gave birth at home with the help of a hilot
because of this she planned to deliver her second child at the birthing facility
at the rural health unit. Her first baby Mark Jhon is quite small for his age,
though, he was able to walk and stand at the age of 9 months. As of now she
is already learning how to speak.
She had already taken vitamins during the first three months of her
pregnancy but wasnt able to sustain it due to lack of money. She had her
first dose of TT1 last during her pre-natal check-up.
3

She feeds her son Jhon Mark 3 times a day with the daily food she prepared
for the whole family and sometimes with condensed milk and small amounts
of solid foods like a mashed sweet potato and rice with soup.
Her husband Mr. Ronald sometimes complain of severe pain at the back of
his neck maybe as a sign of suspected hypertension and over fatigue but Mr.
Ronald said they have no family history of hypertension. The family
sometimes use herbal medicine and goes to the health center when need
arises.

E. Values, Habits, Practices on Health Promotion, Maintenance and

Disease Prevention
As a member of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Mr. and Mrs XXX
religiously attend the FDS (Family day Session) conducted monthly or
quarterly by the Department of social welfare and development personnel
with the collaboration of the health care personnel from the rural health unit.
The family sleeps early to have enough rest and energy for the next day.
Mrs.Carlisa goes out every morning to walk and exercise outside together
sometimes together with Mark Jhon. After the morning walk Mrs. Carlisa then
give Mark Jhon a bath, feed him and let him sleep after then she proceeded
with her daily household choirs.
The family uses bed nets at night to protect them from mosquitoes and other
insects while they are sleeping. Mark Jhon is complete with all the
immunization provided by the Department of health thru the rural health
personnel.
