THEM TO PREVENT INJURY.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Study the Shale Shaker Brandt VSM 300 Operation and Maintenance Manual before attempting any repairs or
maintenance. Unsafe practices can cause condition hazardous to personnel and equipment.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when working, repairing or maintaining this unit
Ensure Electrical, Pneumatic, and hydraulic suppliers are isolated where appropriate commencing any work.
Clean down any parts and the area prior to commencement of work
Before restarting equipment after maintenance, ensure all tools, old parts, nuts, bolts, washers, rags, etc are removed
DO NOT Turn air supply to vent prior to switching off machine. This can cause structural damages to the basket assy
and excessive wear to the clamping system

Item A1
Visually examine unit for Wear or Damage
Check visually all main shaker components such as : Basket/Drive Assembly, Skid Base, Link Sections,
Header tank Assembly, Top Deck Screens, Lower Deck Screens and make sure there are not worn, badly
corroded, or need a painting job.
Visually examine all Nut and Bolts or Nord Lock assy .Retighten as necessary

Nord Lock Information

All bolts on the VSM 300 are held in place using NORD LOCK
vibration proof washers. It is very important that the washers are
used in the correct orientation for the system to work. The large
cams locate together with the fine teeth cutting into the work piece
and bolt / nut. The pair of washers expand more than the
corresponding pitch of the thread locking the nut in place.

Torque Setting Chart

All bolts and threads on the equipment are of metric sizes and constructed from high tensile
stainless steel (U.O.N.) M8 - 34 Nm ( 25 lbf.ft) M10 - 68 Nm ( 50 lbf.ft) M12 - 118 Nm ( 87 lbf.ft)
M16 - 293 Nm (216 lbf.ft) M20 - 570 Nm (420 lbf.ft) M12 (coupling bolts) - 118 Nm ( 87 lbf.ft)
Item A2
Run machine and perform Audible Check
Be aware of the noise made by system components when operating normally - a noisy component may be
the first indication of a fault. Investigate any unusual noises immediately.
Excessive noise could indicate :
1: Loose bolts Check, if so torque on all bolted assemblies
2: Pneumatic clamping, if so system Check pressure
3: Bearing failure, if so Replace bearings
Unusual vibrations could indicate :
1: Weakened mounting spring Change mounting spring
1: Incorrect shaft rotation Check directions

Item A3
Check Air Regulator and Gauge set at 80-90 PSI
An air supply is required to inflate the pneumoseal clamping system for
each shaker.
Pressure range : 80 - 90 psi (5.5 6.2 Barg) ,
Flow rate : 0.5 ft3/min (intermittent) (14.15 liters/min)
SAFETY NOTE
DO NOT Turn air supply to vent prior to switching off machine. This can cause structural damages to the basket assy
and excessive wear to the clamping system

Test to make sure the air regulator still regulating the air system, slowly decrease and increase back the air.
Observe the air pressure gauge to make sure the pointer show "0" when no pressure on line.
Item A4
Check Pneumoseal Clamping System for any Air Leaks
Close the air supply valve and observe the air pressure regulator, if pressure drops from the initial regulated
pressure there is a air leak into the system. Inspect the pneumoseal clamping systems and associated fittings
for leaks or wear. Repair
as necessary.

Detail

Refer to the Shale Shaker Brandt VSM 300 Operation and Maintenance Manual Section 4.0 page 4,5,6, for
details on Removing and Installing of Pneumoseal Clamping System.
During air leak troubleshooting use soapy water and brush to detect even the small air leaks, pay attention to
the air connectors and the air hoses. Change air hoses fitted to the air system every 2 years.
Item A5
Partially disassemble housings and Repack Bearings with Grease at Vibratory Drive Clump
Partially disassemble housings to enable access to bearings. Remove used
grease, clean bearings and inspect for wear. If visual inspection satisfactory,
replenish grease and replace seals in clump weight housings.
Note:
To attain good bearing life it is essential that the .
specified grease is used
(35g of Shell Retinax LX2 is recommended for each
bearing over greasing will cause overheating)

Item A6
Inspect Drive Coupling for Wear or Damage
Inspect drive couplings for signs of wear or damage. Replace as necessary.

Item A7
Operate and Check the header box Slide Gates and Isolating Gates
Principle of Operation
The flow over each shaker is regulated by operating the three (3) sliding gates,
which are located at the feed chute/header tank interface. The processed mud
flows through the shale shaker and is discharged back to the mud distribution
gutter via the skid base outlet gates.
The cuttings from the shale shaker are transported over the screens to the front of
the unit and discharged into the cuttings ditch. The shale shaker package has the
facility to divert mud returning through the flow line directly into the cuttings ditch by
closing the isolation gates within the main header tank and opening the dump
valve in the bypass link section.

Item A8
Check the Mounting Springs [ replace every 2 years ]
Mounting Springs
Brandt recommends that the four (4) main mounting
springs and pads are replaced on a biennial basis.

Mounting Springs

Item A9
Visual Inspect for all Plates, Nameplates and Tags
Make sure all Safety and Operational plates and tags are in place and clear to read.

Item A10
Observe the Condition of the Unit
Wash down
A high pressure wash gun is required for cleaning and washing down the shakers and screens. The cleaning
medium must be suitable for the drilling fluid being used.
Item B1
Test Emergency Stop for the shale shaker unit on the remote control unit.
Item B2, B5
Clean electric motors and control box.
Item B3, B4
Open and inspect the motor junction box and control box and inspect for rust, oxide or dust. Pay attention
to the flame path of motor junction box and control box. Clean very well and do not lubricate or add other
material between the cover and body.
Item B6
On the PCR room on the MCC inspect the main circuit breaker for lose connection.
Item B7
On the unit control panel inspect the main circuit breaker for overheating .
Item B8
Open the unit control panel and verify al electrical connection retighten all wire connection , inspect for
overheating. Check condition of the hour meter, Amps gauges ,the reset button and lights.
Be sure you locked out the unit main circuit breaker on the MCC.
Item B9
Note :
When taking electric motors megger readings use 500V scale on the megger meter with one lead
connected to the frame and the second lead connected to the AC motor coil which you want the
check. Apply one minute and record the reading into the chart.
