To assist in the operation and maintenance of the MODU`s equipment as required by the OIM , the Crane Operator
of the Rig or the Rig Superintendent / Toolpusher on duty.
To act as crane banksman, to carry out repairs and maintenance of the MODU and assist the Crane Operator.
To act as part of helideck crew.
To clean and paint as directed by Crane Operator.
To assist with drill floor operations as required by the OIM, Crane Operator or Rig Superintendent on duty.
To communicate effectively with other members of the MODU crew to ensure safe, efficient "handover" of
operations.
To participate fully in all health, safety and environmental initiatives and programmes.
To participate in pre-tour and weekly safety meetings.
To perform and assist others with the performance of maintenance in line with planned maintenance schedules.
To assist, when required by the OIM, Rig Superintendent/Toolpusher, Crane Operator or other supervisor or other
supervisor, in the performance of other tasks when the MODU is not engaged in drilling operations.
These will include :
*marine opertions - Anchor handling, tow-wire handling, deck work and protective coating maintenance;
*construction/repair operations during breakdown or shipyard periods;
*administrative duties - preparing and maintaining inventories

Ensuring the safety of the drill crew and all support personnel
Ensuring the proper care and maintenance of the equipment used on
the drill floor as well as the drill floor structure itself

Assisting Driller in supervision and coordination of the activities of the
drill crew derrickhands, shakerhands and roustabouts working with the drill
crew
Providing relief for the driller, derrickhand and floorhands as necessary

Responsible for assisting Global Maintenance Manager in working closely with


the Operations Staff and Rig Managers in any of our drilling divisions to ensure
that they run safely, cost effectively and efficiently, minimizing rig downtime and
optimizing the service to our customers.

Taking mud samples (catching and cleaning drill cuttings for analysis)

Assists the driller with equipment maintenance and looks after


conditioning and tracking pumps and the drilling mud system. (Monitors
weight, viscosity and, pH balance and mixes products into mud
accordingly while reporting any changes)

positioned to guide pipe into the derrick structure

Involves good communication with Engineer and Driller

The senior supervisor on site and is in complete charge of the rig. (They

regulations as well as regulation and oversight of the production and

Duties & Responsibilities


Perform the drilling department's daily checklists, i.e. QHSE checks, mast/Derrick inspection, choke and kill manifold set up, etc.
Maintain accurate records of tubular and tool dimensions (i.e. internal and external diameter, fish neck, and serial numbers)
Calculate ton-miles on drilling line; maintain an accurate logbook and advise the Driller on the need to slip and cut Maintain an
organized drilling equipment store and tubular and subs inventory Maintain proper communication with the Driller, Toolpusher, and
other department heads Read and interpret various gauges and meters relating to the drilling operations; assist the Driller in
maintaining records and logs Actively participate in pre-tour meeting with the drilling crew for all drilling operations Assist and relieve

1.1 Health, Safety and Environment:


Drill crews activities are closely monitored and controlled.
Demonstrate personal commitment to Swift Drillings and Client Safety Management system.
Risk assessments and TBTs are utilized for all operations.
Personnel are instructed strictly in accordance with Swift Drilling policies and procedures.
Ensure Swift Drilling personnel and subcontractors are aware of and use the Permit to Work.
Participate actively in Safety Meetings, risk assessments and tool box talks, contribute with relevant points.
Ensure housekeeping is maintained at Swift Drillings standard.
Maintains well control when relieving the driller.
Always strives to further safety improvements. Carries out job audits in order to check the performance against the policies and
procedures.
Fully respects the environment and thinks in terms of sustainability.
Assists in controlling all drilling related discharges to the sea.
Carries out assigned duties as per station bill and emergency response.
1.2 Drilling Operations:
When relieving the Driller accepts responsibility for safe, efficient and professional drilling or work over of the well.
This according to the drilling programme and written instructions.
Carry out rig inspections at the beginning of each shift and verifies that well control equipment is lined up correctly and pressures
of BOP closing unit are conform the instructions.
Accepts responsibility for accurate measurement of all down-hole tools and tubular that are run in the well.
Assists in planning the operations and minimize downtime and maximum efficiency of operations.
Communication is maintained with Clients representative. Report any area of concern by Clients representative to Driller and or
TPs.
Operations and working practices are carried out safely and adhere to Swift Drillings,
Clients and local authorities regulations.
Assists in planning for future operations in regards to equipment and other departments assistance with consideration given to
the planned maintenance system.
Assists other departments if required. (marine, deck, technical).
Make sure that instructions are clear and understood by all crew members when duties are assigned.
Always strives to further operational improvements.
Works with respect and positivism.
Assists in checking that service personnel perform operations safely, efficiently and according to procedures.
Is able to replace the Driller.
1.3 Personnel and Training:
Train Drill crew members to competent level as per Swift Drilling policy.
Monitor and record training of Personnel to have all deemed competent as per Swift Drilling policy.
Promote and motivate personnel to develop their skills to meet Swift Drillings and units objectives.
Is mentor for Trainees and monitor progress.
Maintain a high safety standard and set a good personal example.
Training to be in accordance with the Swift Drilling training Matrix.
1.4 Maintenance and Equipment:
Maintain all drilling equipment in for purpose status, report all defects.
Ensure the preventative maintenance system is being carried out as per maintenance procedure.
Confirm that all equipment furnished by the Company or others is fit for purpose and has required documentation / certification.
Ensure visual appearance of the rig and equipment is maintained at Swift Drilling standard (e.g. painting).
1.5 Administration:
Ensure all reports (Swift Drillings, Clients, etc.) are completed in a timely manner and are accurate and legible.
Job audits.
Review procedures on a regular basis and make recommendations to amend as required.

Confirm that hand-overs have relevant information for the safe and efficient running of the operation. Each handover starts with
Safety Related items.
Follow up any action plan or outstanding audit points as instructed.
Ensure the use of Swift Drilling inspection lists in relevant areas of the rig.
1.6 Meetings:
Attends the pre shift meetings.
Tool Box Talks.
Safety meetings.
Relevant onshore Client and Swift Drilling Meetings.
Supervision on the job always prevails above any meeting.
1.7 Skills:
A minimum of 2 years North Sea Offshore Assistant Driller experience with a proven track record in the Drilling Industry.
Cyber rig experience.
Ability to combine executing and organizing skills.
Good communicative qualities with multi cultural crews.
Good oral and written language skills.
Open to change and opinions of others, however if needed tenacious to taken decisions and ethical principles.
Ability to empathize.
Positive mind setting.
Shows leadership by setting the correct example.

Driller's Assistant
Drillers' assistants help move, set up and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for such things as oil, natural gas and water,
building foundations, minerals exploration and site investigation.

Drillers' assistants may perform the following tasks:

help move drilling rigs and equipment from site to site, set up in the new site and connect power cables or hoses for water and air
supply

help obtain high-quality drilling core samples

assist drillers with all drilling processes

mix and test drilling fluids, chemicals and grout

assist with slotting, welding and inserting casing screens

assist with well development and pumping tests

operate equipment such as pumps for air, water and mud

carry out routine maintenance and repairs

clean and maintain equipment, as well as drill and camp sites.

Specialisations:
The major sectors in the drilling industry are:

-Blasthole drilling to place explosives for the removal of rock and ore in quarries and mines, as well as the construction of roadworks, dam
sites and other capital works.

-Mineral exploration and investigation drilling for suspected or known mineral deposits (this is carried out both in Australia and by Australian
companies overseas).

-Oil and gas drilling (this is carried out offshore and onshore by contract companies that are mainly employed by oil companies).

-Site investigation/geotechnical drilling to determine the characteristics of soil and rock on construction sites.

-Foundation/construction drilling on construction sites, usually in towns and cities, as a part of the building or construction process.

-Water well drilling for stock and domestic or commercial bores (this is mainly carried out by private contractors based in rural areas).

Responsibilities
Control all operations performed under their supervision ensuring they
are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsible for ensuring the Floormen and Derrickman are correctly
deployed for ongoing and upcoming operations, and that they are familiar
with the equipment in use and its safe operation.
At the beginning of their shift, they verify the position of the valves on
all circuits and on the choke manifold.
Ensures Daily Inspection of Derrick/Mast is performed.
Execute instructions from the Driller and Toolpusher.
Ensure the drilling operation is carried out as defined in the approved
Operators
Instructions and Drilling Programme, and the operation is executed in
accordance with our clients' Drilling Operation Manual and RSWMs.
Responsible for ensuring the Drilling Crew perform Planned
Maintenance on drilling equipment thoroughly and timely, and that it is
recorded on the PM sheets.
Carry out daily checks to include ensuring the choke manifold is
properly lined up for the current operation.
Carry out derrick inspections and Dropped Object Checks thoroughly
and timely, document the results and ensure any anomalies are reported and
rectified.
Responsible for ensuring good housekeeping in all the drilling areas.
