Example #1:
Something positive I want to maximise: The reading habit inculcate desire for reading for leisure
& pleasure.
Desired outcome: Make reading trendy; re-brand it etc
HOPE References: My main Case Study is Starbucks because they successfully developed the
practice of drinking at expensive coffee bars. This idea would have been unthinkable a generation
ago. People would have been reluctant to pay $6 for a cup; now it has became trendy and even
habitual. I will also support my other ideas and strategies with various examples, theories and
success stories from the real world, e.g. ...

Example#2:
Something negative I want to minimise: Apathetic attitude towards endangered marine life through
human activity, e.g. leisure activities like diving & marine sports; leisure cruises; consumption of shark
fin, tuna, whale meat etc.
Desired outcome: How to raise awareness and encourage people to cooperate with current efforts
by various NGOs etc
HOPE References: Although I could not find a main Case Study, I have found various parallel and
analogous success stories to justify my proposal strategies. I will also support my other ideas and
opinions with various models, theories and success stories from the real world, e.g. ...

My research & points to include in PI

nothing is done.
My research & evaluation of
why the problem persists
despite current measures
covers the aspects of:

Value of Research & Evaluation:

conflicting information. Winston Churchill

- persuasive processes.
BUT I have not repeated these 3
words/phrases in my work.
I have organised my research &
evaluation on current efforts,
limitations, unaddressed gaps,
causes, etc under sensible
categories, in my own words
e.g. logistics; perception;
emotional appeals; monetary
incentives; mind-set change;
apathy, ignorance etc.

Based on my evaluation, I have

selected to address the
following issues, with reasons.
My desired objective & overall
approach to reach my objective
(E.g. to interpret the situation from
a different perspective; re-define
and refine the target audience; to
change attitudes & behaviour/
disseminate information/ devise a
sustainable fund-raising scheme /
etc)
Sources of Learning Points
with HOPE elements
Possible Case Study or
Reference Models and /or parallel
examples & success stories,
expert theories

I readily absorb ideas from every source...

Because ideas have to be original only with regard to their adaptation to
the problem at hand. I am always extremely interested in how others have
used them.... Thomas Edison

Based on the context of the

problem, and my desired
outcomes/ approach, I am
considering the following
suitable models...
NOTE: A single Case Study is not
compulsory, but it is good to think
about and research into it before
deciding whether to have one.
Evaluate potential Case Study /
Reference Models for relevant
learning points to adapt.
Note: You will not have sufficient

words in your PI to list these
learning points, but you need to
apply them to formulate your
Proposal.
Proposal with
ADORE elements

Value of a persuasive & convincing Proposal:

Don't raise your voice, improve your argument." Desmond Tutu

My proposed strategies
(presented in a chart).
Feasibility: Reasons why each
strategy would work for my
Target Audience, target
beneficiary, context etc,
supported with successful
examples from real life, expert
theories etc.
I was guided by ADORE
principles, BUT in showing
feasibility, I have found and used
the most suitable words. I have
avoided simply repeating words
from the ADORE acronym.
Possible shortcoming of one /
some of my ideas and how it
can be managed

1. Possible Information Sources / Research Possibilities: Your PI must show that information
sources are available for your investigation. For this part of the PI, you may use a table format
similar to the one below. Add or change the headings to suit your PI.
You may also list possible interviews, surveys or mini trials that could be carried out if your PI were
to be done as a full project (see sample below).
