From The Editor

On the letters page of the previous
edition of the Crab Tales a small
fat animal was photographed
coming out of a rubbish bin.
I am not sure what the animal was
but the remark in the letter from
Annie (see letter below) was not
intended to offend and with all
of us at Crab Tales we apologise
unreservedly if offence was taken.
Annies remark bears no relation
to the outstanding quality of fish
& chips served at No 1 Cromer
where I am and intend to remain
a regular customer.
This edition informs our readers
of all the Summer events that are
taking place in Cromer and all the
surrounding area for you to enjoy
and help to raise funds for various
charitys throughout the county
and beyond.
Please support all you can, have
fun and if you have time send me
a short report and photographs,
for as many as possible to be
in the next issue.

At the Pilgrim
Shelter we had
a very successful
evening here in
Trimingham and
I was privileged
to receive the
congratulatory
letter below.
I really was just part of a very hardworking team and I passed on the
thanks to all, for without the many
hands these events cannot happen.
We are having a picnic on Sunday,
check out the ad. on page 26 and
keep your fingers crossed that the
weather is good for August although
we are organising marquee!
Fingers crossed also for the Cromer
Carnival and hoping that all of you
have a really jolly time.

Enjoy Your Crab Tales

Dear Liz,
Im so sorry if No. 1 saw the letter I wrote to
the Crab Tales as malicious.
No way did I intend it to be read / taken that
way, it was supposed to be light hearted - that
is why I said the creature had good taste.
Apologies to No.1, and yes I am a dedicated
No.1 chip buyer winter and summer.
Annie

After three hours, we left at about 10pm. very

satisfied with the evening we had and the fact
that in excess of 200 had been raised for this
very worthy cause!
Kind regards,
Sue and Tony Boyton
North Walsham

Dear Liz,

As you will appreciate, due to the awful weather

on Sat. 25th July and the predicted conditions on
Lifeboat day itself, we had to postpone the event.
We have decided to hold the event on Sunday
9th August and the day will be almost the same
with stalls, live demos etc. BUT unfortunately
the Sheringham Shantymen, have a prior
engagement.
To make a change we will be having Rig-a-Jig
-Jig performing inside the boathouse rather than
on the Pier forecourt.
They will be giving demonstrations of Norfolk
Step Dancing and are very ably led by Fiona
Davies, who is the sister of our Coxswain,
John Davies.
Regards
Audrey Smith

We were so happy to be amongst such a lovely

group of people at the Pilgrim Shelter in
Trimingham on Saturday 18th July!
On arrival, we were warmly greeted by your good
self. You helped us to park safely, got us a lovely
seat & table and made sure that we had a drink.
We settled in nicely and awaited the impending
BBQ and entertainment provided by comedian
Pat Nearney and friends.
Lots of people arrived on this fine evening to
further the cause of building a new village hall.
The atmosphere was wonderful and all those
who attended were very well fed with BBQ
meats,various salads and delicious desserts.
The entertainment was top rate with a variety
of comedy, poetry and song! There was also
an excellent raffle.

Dear Editor,
May I through your publications letters
page, thank the following for thier help &
comfort to me when my husband fell near
Mundesley Lifeboat Station on July 10th.
H.M. Coastguards, Norfolk Air Ambulance,
Members of MundesleyLifeboats especially
2 junior crew and Mundesley residents
for their help.
Unfortunately my husband died from his
injuries on July 12th.
We have spent many holidays in Mundesley
and enjoy reading the Crab Tales.
Yours,
Christine Wood
Dewsbury.

Dear Editor,
Jacobs, the engineering consultancy carrying out
the Bacton Rejuvenation Project at Bacton Gas
Terminal, have donated almost 500 worth of
Soft Play Equipment for the use of younger
members of About With Friends.

Malcolm and Mike dropped by the About

With Friends Base recently to hand over the
equipment which was quickly pounced upon
by members at a summer holiday activity.
About With Friends are also grateful for the
donations of companies and individuals who
help them acquire the specialist and often
expensive equipment they need to build
their services.
About With Friends is a fun, active & energetic
charity based in Cromer. We offer children, young
people and adults with learning disabilities the
chance to lead the lives they choose.
When they become part of our family they have
opportunities to develop lasting friendships; engage
in fun and active social activities; get involved
in the community; have the chance to try new
experiences; learn new skills both for life and
work; but above all feel a valued part of
society while enjoying life to the full.
For further information about any of our services
including Ignite, the alternate Fridays youth
club for 9-12 year olds, call 01263 515 230.
Yours Sincerely
Steve Smith

As I said at the beginning I applaud the motivation

for this event if, indeed, it is in part for charitable
reasons but if it is going to attract this number of
people I submit that it has to be better organised.
I only hope the much publicised Overstrand Fete
on August 1st does not cause similar problems.
Great publication keep up the good work!
Kind regards
Michael Webb

Weve All Heard Of ..

.....recycling gifts but greeting cards?
Not so much.
But for brothers Jeff and Ron Methier, openly
re-gifting a vintage birthday card has become
something of a running tradition.
Sunny Methier posted a photo of the 42-yearold greeting card that her father, Jeff, 58, first
gave to her uncle Ron in 1973.

Dear Liz,

The money was raised through a football score

prediction game organised by Malcolm Lown
and Mike Donovan. Workers on the BRP pay
a weekly fee in a game known as The Footie
Thing and at the end of the season the money
is given to a charity chosen by the organisers.
Jacobs have worked with About With Friends
in the past and this year wanted to buy something
specific for the younger members who attend
school holiday schemes and the Friday night
Youth Club. The charity needed some Soft
Play Equipment and this was duly provided
by Jacobs. The equipment is a selection of
high-quality, ultra-safe building blocks in
various shapes which the youngsters (who
all have a learning disability) can use to
create a world of their own.

I would like to refer to the recent Overstrand

Yard Sale which I believe is an annual event.
In the absence of knowing the objectives of this
sale I must presume that the proceeds - or at least
a proportion of them - are destined for good
causes unlike a boot sale which is purely for
personal gain. (No issue with that, have done
many of them)
However the Boot sales are usually contained
within a specific designated area and some form
of marshalling or control is in evidence.
Overstrands Boot sales, for example is a case in
point and causes little or no problem to through
traffic being contained, as it is, within the
confines of the cricket ground.
With respect to the Yard Sale however it would
seem that all normal consideration towards through
traffic is totally ignored with parked cars on both
sides of the road from Overstrand Hall to close
to the Sidestrand boundary.
There was no evidence of any Police control assuming that they had been informed by the
organisers - at the very least some official Police
no parking cones down one side of the road
thus ensuring that there was sufficient width
of road for traffic to pass safely, particularly
in view of the number of both commercial
and agricultural vehicles that use this road.
Inevitably there was an unfortunate road traffic
accident, involving three cars, I am informed,
undoubtedly due to moving traffic trying to
negotiate a single lane situation through
the length of Overstrand.

It was from my father to my uncle! And they

just continued to use it simply because it said
recycle to a friend. Sunny said.
The card features both mens signatures for
each year theyve passed the card back and
forth along with a note for the year.

Enjoyed By Hundreds
On Saturday July 18th, I went over to Northrepps
International Airport, along with hundreds of
other plane spotters, to watch aircraft taking
off and landing as well as doing numerous
loops and dives over the strip.
Northrepps International has been run by the
Gurney family since WW2, on a couple of
locations. This particular airfield was
opened in the late 1990s.
After walking around to look at the various
planes, including a late 1940s twin engined
Dorner 28 I was invited to take a 10 minute
flight in wonderful Tiger Moth.

Spotted by the Nth Norfolk News!

The last time I took a flight in one of these was
when my late father was a part owner of a Tiger
Moth with two other members of the South
Canterbury gliding club. Together they spent 400
in buying it (late 1950s) and some 5 yrs later had
to reglue the wings at a cost of 700. They sold
it. Such is life as THEY say?
After chatting to many people the overall opinion
was that it was all very successful, particularly
in the case of Jamie Edgehill representing the
Air Ambulance. He said: Ive been working
for the Air Ambulance for over 11 years and
this has been the most successful day so far
On behalf of everyone else who enjoyed the
day, Thank you very much Chris Gurney.
I leave the last word to Chris who said:
Well,I dont know where to start other than to
say a very big thank you to all who flew in on
the day, the club members who flew dozens of
people from our local Parishes and to the
hundreds who turned up to just to watch....
The Air Ambulance were most grateful for all
the donations and a I am staggered at the the
generosity of our neighbours....
I was too busy to take photos and our internet crashed
due to the high numbers present....
Just a shame that a resident from Southrepps has lodged
a formal complaint as it seems its illegal to fly over said
village. I believe we flew several from there.
The brilliant cake, donated by Little Gems Cakes
and Cupcakes went towards raising
funds for the Air Ambulance.

Parrots
In 1868 the Annals and Magazine
of Natural History reported on
a visit to Northrepps Hall, the
residence of the Dowager
Lady Buxton.
While partaking of the hospitality
of the accomplished hostess,
the guests were delighted and
astonished by the parrots that
darted in and out among the
trees or flew over their heads
across the lawn, their brilliant
plumage gleaming in the
radiance of the setting sun.
However the visitors were sorry
to learn that these birds, which at
one time amounted to nearly fifty,
have been reduced now to some
twenty-four, owing to the vicious
propensity of gamekeepers and
so-called sportsmen to wantonly
destroy every stranger that may
come across them.

A local woman called Sally Bean

lived in a cottage with views across
the countryside and she warned the
smugglers when the prevention
men were about.

Origins of the name of the village

It has been suggested that the name
Northrepps is derived from the Old
English word repel meaning strips
of land in a fen that can be tilled.

Literary Connections

The author Verily Anderson (19162010) lived in the village for many
years. She is probably best known

105 Years Of Mundesley

Mothers Union
On a lovely afternoon in July, over 30 ladies
(& gentlemen) gathered in the Church Rooms
at Mundesley to celebrate 2015 as the year our
Branch had its 105th anniversary.
Our speaker, Marguerite Phillips, gave us a lively
and stimulating pictorial presentation on her role
as Norwich Diocesan President.
Ladies had come from our Deanery and beyond
to celebrate with us: North Walsham, Cromer,
Sheringham, South Repps, Trunch, Gimingham
& West Runton.
Mothers Union church banners made a colourful
display, alonside an interesting mini-exhibition
of memorabilia, some ladies had brought their
membership certificates & cards etc.
Proof of our beginnings came from a copy of a
page of the 1910 MU Diocesan Annual Report,
together with some very interesting quotes from
early 20th century Annual Reports giving decisions
taken at Council meetings from long ago, all of
which made fascinating reading.
The afternoon started with Revd Pat Baggaley

celebrating the Eucharist, when prayers of thanks

were given for Mary Sumner and all those who
had carried forward her vision especially in this
Diocese, and on this North Norfolk coast for
Mrs Harvey of The Rectory who was our
first Branch Leader.
After Marguerites talk there was a break while
members looked at the documents on display,
and afternoon tea was served. Chairs were set
around several tables upon which were small
posies of flowers, and on a table in the corner
there was a large celebration cake, which was
cut later by past Diocesan President, The Revd
Canon Pamela Fawcett, together with our
current MU President.
While photographs were taken, members enjoyed
a delicious tea, chatting together over a slice of
very tasty iced fruit cake.
Many thanks to Branch Leader Mrs Barbara
Hicks for planning such a special afternoon, to
all who helped with flower arranging and cake
making or bringing food.
And thanks too to everyone who came to
celebrate with us. A truly memorable
afternoon.

Ritchie Perry...

.....is the author of The Fall Guy that Ive just

finished reading on kindle. I asked him to tell
us about his work and this was his response.
All told Ive had about 40 books published I cant be exact as I dont have copies of all
of them. 18 of them were thrillers, 16 under
my own name and two using a psuedonym.
Thirteen featured the same central character, a
slightly seedy and not wholly admirable secret
agent. Apart from appearing in hardback in this
country, my thrillers were published in both hard
and paperback in the USA. Various titles were
translated into French, German & Italian besides
gracing library shelves in other English
speaking countries such as Australia,
Canada and New Zealand.
Although my writing never won any awards, not
even at school, I was elected an honorary member
of the Mark Twain Society in Missouri for my
services to American literature.
The manuscripts for my thrillers form the Ritchie
Perry Collection which is stored in the Mugar
Memorial Library at Boston University, Mass.
Most of the other books I wrote were aimed at
children between 7 and 11. They included two
which were set in West Runton, the village

Twenty odd years ago ill-health forced me to stop
writing. In fact, Id almost stopped thinking of
myself as an author until in May this year I was
unexpectedly contacted by Endeavour Press, the
largest independent digital publishing company
in the UK. Since then things have moved very
swiftly. My first book, The Fall Guy, has now
been published as an ebook on Kindle and is
available on Amazon or the Endeavour Press
website at 2.99.
When The Fall Guy was first published, back
in the dark mists of time, The Times review
referred to me as the best newcomer to the
thriller scene for many a year.
Despite an element of exaggeration, it made

Richie Perry will be giving a talk at

the Pilgrim Centre in Trimingham
at 2pm on Friday August 28th
Details in our next edition.

Saturday 18th July

At Trimingham Pilgrim Shelter
We have not been blessed with good weather
when we have tried to organise Car Boot Sales
(but are trying again on 22nd Aug) maybe we
have been aiming for the wrong part of the day
for the evening of Saturday 18th was super
warm sunshine and no breeze to speak of
the gazebos did not lift at all!
Over forty five supporters arrived at the Pilgrim
Shelter to enjoy BBQ meats from our super local
butcher Tavern Tasty of Swafield, and mixed
salads provided by members of the team and
superb desserts concocted with her usual
excellent skill by Linda Brown.
The entertainment was provided by Pat Nearney
who is really quirky and entertaining in a truly
Norfolk style (see him at Davenports of North
Walsham Sun 20th Sept. tickets 7.50 raising
funds for WEVA) his partner Sheilah Olley,
pictured below, and local budding stand up
comedian Dylan Wilson.
Dylan recently excellently compered fundraiser
for Cromer Lifeboat at Cromer Academy and
at just 13 yrs has a great career in front of him.

One Home-Made Raft..

The very professional Triminghamite Bill
Rowlands on guitar was enticing us all to
join in the choruses of his great repertoire.
The evening raised a staggering 320 for our
fund towards a new village hall, thank you all
who came and supported the evening of food
and laughter, special thanks to Terry Brown
who was the main BBQ chef and Dot Bradley
who sells the the raffle tickets and generally
keeps it all together.
I hope to see lots of Crab Tales readers
at our forthcoming events.

....a team of Coastguards and 54 miles of the

broads in just 3 days.
On October 2nd, 3rd & 4th the Happisburgh and
Mundesley HM Coastguard team are taking to
the waters of the Norfolk Broads in their homemade raft & paddling 54 miles from Wroxham
to Norwich to raise money and awareness for
two local charities:
1) Scottys Little Soldiers which is dedicated
to supporting the children of men and women
killed while serving in the British Armed Forces.
They provide Christmas & birthday gifts, treats,
trips & activities for the families of the fallen
as well as enabling them to use the charity
holiday lodges.
Currently Scotties Little Soldiers supports over
100 children of the fallen and has been able to
purchase 2 amazing holiday homes in the UK,
one in Gt. Yarmouth and one in Blackpool.
2) Lets Do It Anyway aim to provide children
and adults in Norfolk with appropriate mobility
and specialist equipment, to encourage them
to get active, to feel empowered and socially
included.
They also provide services or facilities to people
who are suffering an illness, disability or infirm,
with the aim of improving their condition of life.
Their project is to raise funds for 2 specialist
Sensory Rooms in Norfolk.

We All Bleed Red

Crayford & Abbs

To The Rescue

Poet & artist Vince Laws has created We All

Bleed Red for the church of St Peter & St Paul,
in Oulton, Norfolk.
The church tower is in need of significant repair,
the heating is inadequate and wooden platforms
need replacing. A new floor of pamment tiles in
the nave will create a level space, and allow a
variety of community uses, such as art shows,
concerts, and yoga.
I want to show the tower bleeding, in need
of first aid, and wounded, explained Vince.
And at the same time, as the church takes on
the new mantle of being a community space,
I want We All Bleed Red to be an invitation
to everyone to use the space, regardless of
religion, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.
Stephen Jefford, who is co-ordinating the
restoration project with the Heritage Lottery
Fund for St Peter & St Paul, Oulton, said:
Were really thrilled that Vince has come up
with such a dramatic idea. I have known for a
while that he, like many in the village, cherishes
the church as an open building. His idea of
making the Tower a part of his exhibition is
really thoughtful. Were also really grateful
for the support weve had from the Church and
Diocese, as well as our regular parishioners,
to embrace making the church building both
a place of worship as well as a community
resource.
Vince will be exhibiting an array of text art and
poetry inside the church from Sunday 23rd to
Sunday 30th August, All are welcome.
The church is open daily and entry is free.
Parking is on grass 20 metres from the church,
the main path is gravel, with a ramp into the
church. Other paths around the church are
grassy and uneven. There is no toilet.

A Norfolk dealership helped care home pensioners

get to Buckingham Palace for tea by lending
them a Nissan Qashqai for the day.
Crayford & Abbs Nissan in Gypsies Lane, Holt,
came to the rescue after hearing how residents
at Halsey House in Cromer had been invited
to London but required transport.
The generous dealership sent the Royal British
Legion-run home the award-winning Qashqai
to drive down to the Queens residence so they
wouldnt miss out on the special occasion.

Donations for the Oulton Tower & Community

Project are welcome. For details of how to donate
please contact: oultonchurch@gmail.com
The restoration project to date has been supported
by a first round Grants for Places of Worship
award from the Heritage Lottery fund, to develop
the proposals further as well as an award from
the Norfolk Historic Churches Trust; the church
is awaiting confirmation of further funding from
the HLF towards the costs of carrying out the
works and would be grateful for any financial
help toward this project.

Kevin Abbs, Director at Crayford & Abbs, said:

We love to do our bit in the local community

residents had the time of their lives and said it
was a wonderful experience to visit the palace.
They also enjoyed travelling in comfort and
style in the Qashqai.

A Young Ventriloquist..
......is touring and, one night, hes doing a show
in a small fishing town.
With his dummy on his knee, he starts going
through his usual dumb blonde jokes.
Suddenly, a blonde woman in the fourth row
stands on her chair and starts shouting:
Ive heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes.
What makes you think you can stereotype blonde
women that way? What does the colour of a
womans hair have to do with her worth as
a human being?
Its men like you who keep women like me from
being respected at work and in the community,
and from reaching our full potential as people.
Its people like you that make others think that
all blondes are dumb! You & your kind continue
to perpetuate discrimination against, not only
blondes, but women in general... pathetically,
all in the name of humour!
The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to
apologise, but the blonde yells:
You stay out of this! Im talking to that
little sh*t on your knee!
Thanks to Jackie Edwards for this

2015 Challenge
This year will mark 8 years since the tragic loss
of my first born son Sean Alexander Laxen at
3pm on the 20th of August 2007.
He was taken from us whilst enjoying Mother
Nature at Conwy Falls Betws-y-Coed in North
Wales when he fell into the rapids. Time is like
a river continually flowing on but the sadness at
his loss is always there and heightened by special
& certain times.

This year is particularly poignant as Sean would

have been 18 this October and we all would have
been looking forward to celebrating this milestone
with him. His younger brother Scott, now 16, is
giving me so much pleasure and pride in all
that he does and the way he remembers Sean.
Each year since 2008 Ive set myself a challenge
to remember Sean honour his determination and
never give up attitude to a learning disability that
he had and raise money for local groups with
connections to children. Not forgetting the schools
that Sean did or would have attended.
So far I have completed the following challenges
raising amounts of money for these causes: 2008 : Installed a slate bench in Seans memory
at Conwy Falls with the help and generosity of
Betws-y-Coed companies and people specifically
Llechweld Slate Company in Blaenau Festineog.
2009 : Tandam parachute jump at Old Buckenham
Airfield with my godson Michael. Raising funds
for Horsham St Faiths, Horsford Middle &
Betws-y-Coed schools
2010 : 44 mile coast walk (over 2 days) from
Wells next the sea to Walcott (favourite haunts of
ours) with my nieces Laura & Lucy. Raising funds
for the 1st Aylsham & St Faiths & Horsford
Scouts & Horsham St Faiths, Horsford Middle.

Sidestrand Hall Special & Betws-y-Coed schools

and Mundesley Lifeboat.
2011 : Abseiled from a structure in England
(Southwold Lighthouse) Scotland (Forth Railway
Bridge) & Wales (Marquis of Angleseys Monument)
in conjunction with RNLI to raise water safety
awareness (over 3 months). Raising funds for
Wells next the Sea, Tobermorry and Criccieth
lifeboat stations all having special significance
to Sean and for Aylsham & Horsford youth clubs
and Horsham St Faiths pre-school and Horsham
St Faiths, Horsford Middle, Sidestrand Hall Special
& Betws-y-Coed schools & Mundesley Lifeboat.
2012 : Canoed from Aylsham Mill to Wroxham
(in 8 hours) with my son Scott raising money for
Bure Valley Railway for a childs interpretation
display a favourite haunt of ours when cycling
around Aylsham & Horsham St Faiths, Horsford
Middle, Sidestrand Hall Special & Betws-yCoed schools and Mundesley Lifeboat.
2013 : Cycled a circular route (over 2 days) from
Aylsham to Aylsham visiting preserved railways
(where we all would spend time at) in Reepham
& Whitwell, County School, Wells next the Sea,
Weybourne with 14 scout & explorer friends of

North Lodge Park

Cafe Open for Business
North Lodge Parks caf will be open from
Friday August 7th.
North Norfolk District Council has gifted the
caf, free of charge, to the Friends of North
Lodge Park to operate for a 4 month period,
the remainder of the summer season.
Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of NNDC said:
The council is very keen to see something up
and running at North Lodge Park as quickly
as possible and its a good opportunity for
the Friends to get involved and get the
caf open for business.
I hope that the public gives the Friends the
support they deserve; and it feels very good
to be able to get the caf open once again.
As well as the caf the Friends group will
be looking to improve the Rose Garden
and hedges nearby the cafe as well as
the bowling green area.
The Friends of North Lodge Park have been
handed the keys to the caf and will be in
the caf cleaning and painting the interior
preparing it for the grand public opening.

Farewell To...
....Mundesley Medical Centre
Three years ago I was fresh out of college and
working two part time jobs, with no idea where
I wanted my career to take me.
In the summer of 2012 I was accepted for an
Apprentice General Assistant vacancy at
Mundesley Medical Centre, which has truly
proven to be an opportunity like no other.
In those years I developed many skills and knowledge as well as developing slight hypochondriac
tendencies and meeting some very interesting
characters and changing my hair colour a grand
total of five times (not related to stress).
There is a common misconception that all GP
administrative staff do is answer phones and
act as gatekeepers to appointments; I quickly
learned that this was not the case.
In the first few months I was an unsure teenager,
watching the dispensers & receptionists solving
important problems, listening to the peculiar
patient queries and seeing the frustration at the
unanswered hospital answerphone messages.
I was dreaming of the day I might get to do more
than counting medication into boxes & folding
letters. After a few months I was not only thrown
in at the deep end but sent with an anchor!
Without the aid of an incredibly supportive,
willing and sympathetic team of colleagues
I am certain I would not have coped with the
pressure. Sometimes you do need to rant and
other times cry, but no matter what happened
I knew I would be supported.
I have also had the pleasure of meeting many
wonderful patients, ones with stories that stick
with you, others whose presence can brighten
your day and theres even the odd telephone
number you recognise which is enough to
bring a smile to your face.
We all have our favourites (even if we dont admit
it) for different reasons but its satisfying to know
that the good memories will stay with you.
I am fortunate enough to have worked with the
Patient Reference Group; they are a team of astute
individuals from diverse backgrounds with
refreshing views.
Their views have affected a wide range of
matters from the way clinics are run to the
colour of font on the television screen.

The meetings with them are always enjoyably

enlightening and their support to the surgery
is greatly unrecognised but profoundly
appreciated.
The reason I volunteered to write this article is
because after my three insightful, challenging
and at times exasperating, years I will be
leaving the practice.
I wanted to acknowledge the vast opportunities
Mundesley Medical Centre have provided for
me and equally the experience gained from the
patients I have had the pleasure of meeting.
I am sure there will be more General Assistants
who will attain valuable knowledge from working
at the surgery and I would hope that they will
cherish their time spent there as I have.

From Editor:
Thank you for this article Lynda, and very best
wishes from all at the Crab Tales for a very
successful and interesting future.

Unwanted Textiles
People in North Norfolk are being encouraged
to recycle their unwanted textiles, rather than
letting them go to landfill.
Cookstown Textile Recyclers will now provide
& maintain bring banks and collect textiles from
approx. 75 sites across Norfolk.
To find your nearest textile recycling point, visit:
http://www.recyclenow.com/recycling-locator
which includes a postcode search function
which can list all local recycling facilities.
The collected textiles will be taken to their
depot in Hertfordshire to be bulked up and
transported to the sorting facility in Ireland.
The new lime green banks will take all clothing,
shoes, bed linen, towels, curtains, belts, handbags,
hats & scarves. Good quality items and clothes
that are no longer wearable can all be placed in
the banks.
Cookstown estimate that 65% of the materials
will be sent for re-use in Africa & Asia, while
the other 35% will be sent to pulping mills in
the UK, to be used as fillings for mattresses etc.
Cllr Angie Fitch-Tillett said: I am pleased that
residents have yet another way to recycle their
unwanted clothing. As well as this new service,
we would also encourage residents to continue
to donate high quality clothing to local charity
shops who rely on donations to carry out their
vital work.
If you know of a suitable location for a textile
bank, please contact North Norfolk District
Council on: 01263 516 195.

In June......
......Yael Biran fell and broke her
elbow, so she headed to her local
NHS hospital.
But the mother-of-two, from S.E.
London, was so disappointed with
aspects of the care she received
that she wrote to Lewisham and
Greenwich NHS Trusts patient
advice and liaison service.
The Independent......shared this:
She wrote:

Dear Lewisham PALs,

Id like to complain about a visit
I had to your A&E department on
the 15th of June 2015. Sorry in
advance for my language, but
this really upset me.
On Monday the 15th of June I fell
& knew I broke something (turns
out I broke my elbow) So I went
to Lewisham A&E.
I came armed with a book to help
me pass the waiting time!
Actually enjoying the fact that
I am going to get to read a
book for a chance!
But no the bloody nurse sees me
in 6 minutes! 6 ruddy minutes! all
I had time for was to send a text,
settle down, get my glasses out
and find the right page, and
they bloody call me in!

Yay, I think, a waiting room - I will

get to read my book!
And so I dont even bother to put anything back in the bag & happily skip
to the x-ray waiting area, book in
hand and glasses on top of head.
I sit down and get seen within
37 seconds. the B^^&@s!*
All done and dusted and 5 minutes
later I skip to the next waiting area
to wait for the next nurse to see me.
By that point I think I owe myself a
chocolate from the vending machine
but waste 5 minutes trying to make
it work (it didnt - at least there is
one thing you can count on in this
A&E!) I then sit down comfortably,
happy in the notion that surely, now.
.....I will get at least a couple of
chapters....... but no!
2 minutes later I get to see the next
nurse who is an absolute gem and is
super nice, she explains everything,
gives me a sling & a tetanus shot
and sends me on my way home!
home! bloody rubbish!

Join The Circus

Have you ever said: I would love to run away
and join the circus? Well we at Crab Tales
have heard of a once in a lifetime opportunity
for someone to join a real professional circus
for a couple of months.
The Crab Tales has often featured the shows
put on by the local Circus Ferrel and here is
your chance to join them as a performer.
Martin Taylor, owner and circus clown, said:
We are looking for someone with circus skills
to join us until the end of the season. Not only
will they perform with us, but will have use of
the big top to practice and perfect their act.
This is a totally unique chance for someone to
get a taster of circus life & perform for the public.
To find out more go along to Circus Ferrel in
Gold Park, Mundesley, before 15th August,
to have a chat with Martin.

Sheringham &
Cromer Lions
Club
This year, Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club will
celebrate 5 years since they were formed, and they
have gone from strength to strength.
About the Lions Club : The Lions Clubs are
part of the Lions Club International, based in the
USA, started by Melvin Jones, in Chicago in
1917, where he and other businessmen joined
together, under his leadership, for the purpose
of helping improve the conditions in the
communities where they lived.
Since then the Lions Clubs have spread throughout
the world, raising funds to help with the needy
in their own area.
The Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club was part
of Taverham Lions Club, but in 2013, we were
converted to a Chartered Lions Club.
To do this we had to increase our membership
to 21, and by doing so, we had become one of
the fastest growing Lions Clubs in the UK.
What do Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club do?
On the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Morley
Club in Sheringham for our business meetings
and on the 4th Tuesday, we have a social event,
to which the public are invited. Visiting speakers
to tell us about a group or charity we may be
considering helping, or are guestsspeaker.
One evening Wing Commander Ken Wallis,
in his late nineties, told us about his life as a
bomber pilot during and after WW2.
Our main purpose though is to raise funds for
local charities & good causes, and since we
formed we have raised over 6570.00.
Every Christmas, we have been able to distribute
Christmas hampers to 55 needy families and we
also supply, free of charge, a Message in a
bottle If you suffer from a constant illness,
or need regular medication, you can request a
Message in a bottle from a member of the
Lions Club, or from your local GP.
The bottle has a printed form inside, where you
list your medical conditions & what medication
you take and it also contains 2 green stickers.
One sticker for the outside of where the bottle
is stored and the other on your front door.
An ambulance or paramedic will look for the
green stickers and then can tell straight away
what your illnesses are and your medication.
Due to various reasons, we have now reduced
in numbers and need more members, so if you
are interested in becoming a member of the
Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club, or would
like to know more please contact me:
Lion Arthur Bailey on: 07717 533 549 or
e-mail: arthurbailey@sky.com
Thank you for your interest in our organisation.
