Technical Information

Basosoft N-AP

August 2002

All-purpose softener for all types of fibers. May also be

used in special applications such as napping or
sanforizing.

Performance Chemicals

Basosoft N-AP

Nature

A blend of polyethylene and fatty amides. Non-ionic, slightly

cationic

Physical Form

Opaque liquid

Storage

When stored in the original sealed containers at temperatures

between 5 C and 30 C (41F and 90F), the product has a
shelf life of at least 12 months. Once containers have been
opened, the contents should be used up quickly. Containers
should be tightly closed after each use.

Properties
Solubility

Can be infinitely diluted with cold water

pH

4.5 -5.5

Density

Specific gravity ~0.99 (~ 8.25 lbs per gallon)

Compatibility

Compatible with most finishing agents. If several products are

mixed together, it is advisable to verify their mutual compatibility
by prior experiment.

Action

After-treatment softener for all types of fibers. A particular soft

and smooth handle is obtained on yarn or piece goods.
Also suitable for napping and sanforizing.

Basosoft N-AP
Application
Field of
application and
finishing effects

May be applied by batch or padding techniques. The best effects

are achieved in the acid pH range.
A particularly soft and smooth handle is obtained on yarn and
piece goods.
The finishing effects are largely wash-fast.
Improvement in the sewability of knitgoods.
Improvement in the initial tear strength and the resistance to
abrasion.
Impairment in the degree of whiteness need not be expected
under the normal curing conditions.

Addition rates
Long liquors (8:1 -10:1)
Circulating liquor machines, winch becks, and jet machines
1 - 3% of Basosoft N-AP, expressed in terms of the weight of the
fabric.
Apply for 15-20 minutes at approximately 40C ( 110 F)

Short liquor

(Padding)

Basosoft N-AP is applied by padding at room temperature, in

which case the liquor pick-up is 60-90 %, depending on the nature
of the goods.

Basosoft N-AP
Remarks

Basosoft N-AP is low foaming, stable to shear, and free from

paraffin wax and silicones.
The pH of the made-up resin finishing liquor should be between
4.0 and 6.5.
Our recommendation for alkaline goods is to set their pH to a
slightly acid value before finishing.
It is compatible with cationic aftertreatment agents. If it is used
together with after-treatment agents for improving the fastness
properties, the softener should be allowed to go onto the goods
first of all.
Numerous factors may influence the fastness properties, shade,
degree of whiteness, strength, odor, and handle during
pretreatment, dyeing, printing, finishing, and formulating the
finishing recipe. Preliminary trials are therefore advisable.
This applies particularly to white goods and pastel shades that
are liable to suffer impairment in the degree of whiteness and
shade.

Napping

Basosoft N-AP can greatly improve napping performance and

fabric hand.
Recommended amount:
Pad for napping
30-60 g/l Basosoft N-AP
Pick-up : 70%
Dry as usual

Sanforizing
The traditional denim fabric (e.g. for jeans) is processed by
machine so that residual shrinkage will not exceed 1% in either
direction.
In most cases denim fabric is treated with special chemicals
before the Sanforizing process. These products help to meet
established performance standards.

Excellent shrinkage properties

Easy to cut fabrics for garment making
Improved sewability

The sanforizing chemicals are applied by padding, foam, or

spraying.
Recommended amounts:
20-60 g/l Basosoft N-AP
