Joint Call for Pre-Proposals under CEFIPRA-AIRBUS Group Aerospace Programme

Considering the willingness of private sectors to contribute towards the Indo-French scientific
collaboration and their wish of utilizing the experience of the Centre Franco-Indien pour la
Promotion de la Recherche Avance (CEFIPRA) in that direction, the Centre has recently
opened a new category of activity called Innovation Programme. Under this category,
CEFIPRA and the Airbus Group have joined hands to launch The Airbus Group-CEFIPRA
Aerospace Programme which will support collaborative research projects in the identified
areas. In order to implement the programme, this call is being launched to invite joint
pre-proposals from the Indian and French Researchers of Academia Institutions. The principal
investigators of the shortlisted pre-proposals will be invited for full research proposal
submission. The selected full research proposals will be funded for a period of three years.
Priority Areas:
Research proposals in the following areas are encouraged:
(a) Applied mathematics, Machine learning and high performance computing;
(b) Materials and structures: Composite materials based on nanotechnology and also SHM
(Structural Health Monitoring) by using NDA methods (Non Destructive Analysis);
(c) Avionics: Miniaturization of Smart systems based on MEMS/NEMS and in general Micro
and Nanotechnologies.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. The pre-proposals must include at least one partner each from Indian and French academic
institutions for each project. Academic partners should have permanent position in an Indian
or French University / R & D institution. The project could have maximum 4 partners.
2. One Indian coordinator and one French coordinator must be identified from Indian and
French academic / research institutions.
3. Emphasis will be given to projects promoting students and involvement of young
researchers.
Evaluation of Pre-Proposals:
1. The submitted pre-proposals will get peer reviewed through experts nominated by
CEFIPRA and Airbus Group.
2. The principal investigators of the shortlisted proposals will be invited to submit
complete proposals. Subsequently, the principal investigators of the shortlisted
proposals will make a presentation before a Joint Committee for the final evaluation.
Timeline:
Launch of the call: 20 July 2015
Proposal Submission Deadline: 7 September 2015
Evaluation results: 9 October 2015

Funding Conditions:
1. The maximum duration of the supported project is for 36 months.
2. Funding will include the following:
Manpower
(a) support for Indian and French Ph.D./postdocs to be appointed on the projects,
including fellowship & lodging, as per CEFIPRA guidelines;
International Travel
(b) support for international travel for both sides as decided by the Joint Committee.
Recurring expenses
(c) support for recurring expenses (Consumables, Domestic Travel, Contingency) to
the research institutions involved;
Equipment
(d) support for add-on-equipment on a case-to-case basis;
3. The number of participants and their research contribution should be appropriate for
the aim of the project and must be reasonably balanced in terms of each countrys
participation (on effort, contribution and budget). Each project should clearly
demonstrate an added value from working together.
4. In order to assess the progress of the project, a mid-term review will be held by the
expert committee.
5. At the end of the project, the project partners will submit final report with
recommendations for the future Indo-French collaboration in their field.
