Roof Purlins

PURLIN TYPE
Click the down arrow to select the desired purlin and mount.
The first letter is member type where:
D = double C,
R = hot rolled wide flange,
W = welded plate flange,
U = hot rolled channel,
C = Cee shape,
Z = Zee member, and
J = joist.
For type of mount:
B = bypass,
F = flush, and
O = outside mount with no lap.
The CL purlin is a CO purlin with a lapped piece at each support point. JF is for an open web steel joist attached to the
top of the rafter.
FLANGE STRAP
Check the 'Use' box if the inside flange of the roof purlins are to be braced. This bracing is sometimes called "bridging
angles." The maximum spacing of the flange braces in set in the DS_BUILD(roof 5) for fastening through panels and
DS_BUILD(roof 6) for standing seam roofs.

SUPPLY
Check the 'Supply' box if the inside flange braces are to be furnished with the building.

OFFSET (in, mm)

The non bypass roof purlins need not be flush with the outside face of the rafter. The outside purlin flange can be set
inward (offset) from the roof line.
PROJECTION (in, mm)
The non bypass roof purlins need not be flush with the outside face of the rafter. The outside purlin flange can project
beyond the face of the rafter (projection).
PEAK SPACING (ft, mm)
The distance from the roof surface intersection to the web of the nearest purlin as measured along either the roof surface
or the rafter surface depending on DM57. For single slope buildings, set to zero and the program will:
(1) use equal spacing for the first and last purlin on the surface when the set purlin spacing option is used, or
(2) use equal spacing for all the purlins when the set purlin spacing option is not used.
MAX SPACING (ft, mm)
The maximum permitted purlin spacing. The program will start with this spacing but may reduce to a smaller value for
strength or economy reasons. Spacing is measured along the roof surface.

SET SPACE (ft, mm)

If the final purlin spacing is to be set by user and not determined by the program, use that spacing. If the program is to
determine the spacing, set to zero.
SET DEPTH (in, mm)
If the user wants to set the purlin depth, use that depth. For the program to determine the purlin depth, set to zero.
SET LAP (ft, mm)
The lap if it is to be set by the user, else 0 and the program will determine the lap.
EAVE STRUT TYPE
The 2 letter code for the eave strut type selected.
'--'
'EO'
'EF'
'CO'
'CF'
'ZF'
'ZB'
'ZO'
'JF'
'JO'

- Eave strut will be as specified in DS_BUILD(roof27) and DS_BUILD(roof67),

- Eave strut outside mount,
- Eave Strut Flush mount,
- Cee shape Outside mount,
- Cee shape Flush mount,
- Zee shape Flush mount,
- Zee shape bypass eave strut,
- Zee shape outside mount,
- Joist shape flush mount, or
- Joist shape outside mount.

Note:
All eave strut types except '*F' attach to the soldier columns. '*F' eave strut types span between rigid frames
and do not attach to soldier columns.
