Earths equator is inclined to the plane of its orbit and keeps nearly the
same direction in space during a complete revolution, each pole is
presented to the sun for part of the year.
The plane of the earths axis is perpendicular to the line joining the earth
and sun.
Spring in the Northern hemisphere The period of time between the instants of
vernal equinox and summer solstice.
Summer in the Southern hemisphere summer solstice until about Sept. 23
-
Winter in the northern hemisphere Dec 21 and March 21, the angles w/c the
Earths axis makes with the circle of illumination increases again from 0 to 2327
w/ the south pole of the Earth directed away from the sun.
When the Earths north pole is tilted directly toward the sun, every point
on the Earth situated to the northwards of the parallel of altitude 6633N,
will experience total daylight,
Zone of perpetual apparation the whole day there has been daylight
-
Will be the case for all places to the north of 6633N (66)
The polar cap above this parallel.
Climatic Zone
-
The inclination of the Earths axis to the plane of its orbit the altitude of
the sun at noon varies throughout the year.
Torrid Zone - the zone contained between the tropic of cancer & tropic Capricorn.
North torrid the part w/c lies between the tropic of cancer and the equator.
South Torrid Zone - the part w/c lies between the equator and the tropic of
Capricorn.
Arctic Circle The polar caps which are bound by the parallel of latitude of 6633N
Antarctic Circle the North pole and the parallel of latitude of 6633S
- The South Pole, are zones in which every place has total darkness on
at least one day of the year.
Frigid Zone the pole themselves have six months total darkness and the remaining
six months of the year in total daylight.
North Frigid Zone in the northern hemisphere.
South Frigid Zone in the southern hemisphere.
Temperate Zones the zones w/c lies torrid zone & frigid between the zone.
North temperate zone for the northern hemisphere.
South temperate zone for the southern hemisphere.
Unequal length of the seasons
The Earth is at perihelion on or about January 1, about two weeks after the
winter solstice and is said to be in aphelion on or about July 4, about two
weeks after the winter solstice.
