CHAPTER 5: RESULT ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

Through this project it is possible to construct a locking system capable of securing assets
for single as well as multiple users by making use of One Time Password. The access
control system based on OTP is proposed to complement the drawbacks of the user
authentication mechanism such as a digital door-lock and mechanical door-lock based.
The proposed method does not need administrators help to access the facility if the user
must know OTP and has a registered mobile phone. The OTP is generated and sent to the
users mobile phone whenever the user requests to access control system. The proposed
system is able to enhance the user authentication method and number input based on
value of OTP.
In this project whenever a user wants to access the lock he has to enter his unique
password, just after entering the password the user is welcomed by his name and then
OTP is send to his registered mobile number. After entering the correct OTP the lock is
unlocked. If someone who is not an authenticated user of the system enters a wrong
password, then a message is sent to the real users that an unauthorized attempt has been
detected. And now a secondary lock is also activated. And therefore a person has to
breach two locks instead of one.
The main issue with such system is if there is problem in the network of the users mobile
then he would not be to receive the OTP, if the OTP is not received on time then in case
of emergency the locking system may fail to solve its real purpose. For this reason this
project is applicable for areas with good network coverage of the mobile service used.
Though, this project is highly secure and error free way of locking doors, safes, inlets for
high security areas, etc. The problem of network can be solved giving an entirely
different bandwidth for the use of locking system user which is never down, this may
make it costly but depending on area of application this can be done.
Another issue of concern can be in case of theft of the mobile, our system is secure in this
case because only the authentic user knows his actual password which is used to open the
lock along with the OTP.
For making the system more advance the persons E-mail account may also receive a
copy of the OTP which he can use if the mobile network is absent but internet connection
can be managed. Moreover, the main server is always having the account of number of
unauthorized attempts detected and also it can be used for purpose of attendance marking
if it is used at the door of high security building.
