ASN 2002 Introduction to Contemporary
Asian Societies
Introduction to Contemporary Asian Societies is
an interdisciplinary introductory course that
exams the regions of East, South, and
Southeast Asia. A variety of academic
disciplines will be used to explore diverse Asian
societies within the context of the increasingly
globalized world.

International Economics

Focuses on international trade policies (including basic trade


models), globalization and the implications of increasing
interdependence of global markets, tariffs and quotas, the
impacts of legal, linguistic, social, and currency differences
encountered when commerce extends beyond national
borders.

Forbidden City

Explores specific management and


business topics, such as financial markets,
international trade, human resources,
cultural issues, and economics, as they
relate to Chinese businesses, will be
addressed.

CHI 1930 Study Group: Chinese


Conversation and Culture
Chinese Conversation and Culture is offered
to students with different levels of Chinese
language proficiency. Pre-trip study involves
guided self-study of vocabularies and
grammar. During the trip, students will be
assigned different projects to complete in
Chinese and will be required to interact
daily with native Chinese speakers.

Prof. Searcy holds a Ph.D. in Food and Resource


Economics with a focus in International Trade. At
Santa Fe College in 2009, including courses in
Microeconomics, International Economics, and
managerial Economics in a Global Economy. He has
visited China twice, where he interacted with many
BUU students and faculty members.

Prof. Li Ren-Kaplan
Professor Li Ren-Kaplan holds a Ph.D. in intercultural communications.
She attended Peking University as an undergraduate, is fluent in
Mandarin, and travels in China annually. She has led this trip 4 times in
2009, 2010, 2012, & 2014. She has extensive connections with BUU
administration & faculty.
