Student Responsibilities for Preliminary Examinations

All students must present to exams in complete school uniform, appropriate hairstyle, clean shaven etc.

Students should arrive for:


o Morning exams: 8.30am (exam starts 8.45am)
o Afternoon exams: 11.45pm (exam starts 12.10pm)

Students must bring pens/calculators etc in a clear plastic bag.

Students are permitted to bring a clear bottle of water into an exam. No food is permitted in the exam
room.

Students must surrender all notes/paper from their person before they enter the exam room. Failure to do
this may be considered a breach of examination procedures.

Students will be required to turn off mobile phones and place them on the floor in clear view of the
supervisors. Turn off does not mean turn phone to silent it means power off. Any phone which receives a
call or a message during the exam period will be confiscated.

Students wishing to go to the toilet during an exam will be escorted by the exam supervisor. It is expected
that students should make arrangements before they enter the exam room so they will not need to leave at
any stage.
Students will not be allowed to leave for the toilet in the first 30 minutes and the last 30 minutes of
the examination.

Students who are LATE FOR AN EXAM will enter the exam room on arrival and use the remaining time to
complete their exam. Please note:
o NO EXTRA TIME WILL BE ALLOCATED
o Exceptional circumstances may be considered but these will be regarded on the same basis as
the NSW Board of Studies. Misreading an exam timetable is not considered a sufficient excuse.

Students WILL NOT be permitted to leave an exam before the allocated finish time.
Students who are sick during an exam are advised to obtain a medical certificate immediately upon
completing the exam. Special consideration in the marking stage will only be granted on presentation of
medical certificate and completing the Purple Form.

Any student absent for an exam must notify the College immediately and then obtain a MEDICAL
CERTIFICATE. The student should:
o Attend school on the first day he is well and organise an alternative time to complete the task. He
should attend regardless of whether he has an exam on that day. He SHOULD NOT wait until the
day of his next scheduled exam as the Medical Certificate may not cover him for that period.
o Expect to complete the task on the day he arrives to arrange an alternative time.

Other relevant points:


The medical certificate should cover ALL days the student is unable to complete the task.
The Leader of Learning will decide whether the student will sit the same task or an alternative
paper.
Students must complete a Purple Form and return it to the Curriculum Office.

Students found to have breached examination procedures will be asked to leave the examination room
and report to the Deputy Principal.
Breaching exam procedures includes, but is not limited to:
o Gaining prior knowledge of the content of the exam
o Bringing notes into, or accessing notes during an exam

Assisting other students during an exam


Receiving or sending messages via mobile phone

A student may receive a 100% penalty for breaching examination procedures.


All questions should be directed to the Curriculum Office or the relevant Leader of Learning.

Exam Invigilation Guidelines

Communication of any kind is not permitted once you have entered the exam
room.
All mobile phones should be turned off and placed on the floor beside your table.
No written material should be brought into the exam room. If you wish
to surrender any written material please raise your hand and a supervisor will
attend to it.
Please place your student identification card on the desk in front of you so that
supervising staff can clearly see your name and Board of Studies number.
Please ensure that your Board of Studies number is written on the front of each
exam answer booklet and on any loose answer pages.
If you do not attempt a section of the exam you must still hand up an answer
booklet/answer page with your student number on it and the words Not
Attempted written across the front page.
No student will be permitted to leave the exam room during the first 30 minutes
and the last 30 minutes of the exam.
No student will be allowed to finish and leave the exam early unless they have
made prior arrangements with the Year Coordinator or the Leader of learning,
Curriculum.
If you experience illness or any other form of misadventure during the exam you
should inform a supervisor and then you must follow this up on the day with the
Leader of learning, Curriculum.
Any other issues you might have regarding this task are to be addressed to either
the Leader of Learning or the Leader of learning, Curriculum on the day of the
exam.
