Opening Hymn
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning,
That brightens up the sky.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
Opening Words & Musical Tribute - Faithful One (Sir Cliff Richard)
Psalm
The Lords my Shepherd, Ill not want;
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul He doth restore again,
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Een for His own names sake.
Yea, though I walk in deaths dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
And staff my comfort still.
My table Thou hast furnishd
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in Gods house forevermore,
My dwelling place shall be.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Gospel
Luke 24:13-16, 28-35
On the first day of the week, two of the disciples were on their way to a
village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking
together about all that had happened. Now as they talked this over, Jesus
himself came up and walked by their side; but something prevented them
from recognising him.
When they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if
to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them. It is nearly evening, they
said, and the day is nearly over. So he went in to stay with them. Now
while he was with them at table, he took the bread and said the blessing;
then he broke it and handed it to them. And their eyes were opened and
they recognised him; but he had vanished from their sight. They they said
to each other, Did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us on the
road and explained the scriptures to us?
They set out that instant and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the
Eleven assembled together with their companions, who said to them, Yes it
is true. The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon. Then they told their
story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised him
at the breaking of the bread.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Bishop Tom:
Lord God, our shelter and our strength,
you listen to the cry of your people.
Let us find in your Son
comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt,
and courage to live through this hour.
Make our faith strong, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Offertory Hymn
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now Im found,
Was blind but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come.
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.
When weve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
Weve no less days to sing Gods praise
Than when we first begun.
Final Commendation
Before we go our separate ways, let us take leave of our sister Cilla. May
our farewell express our affection for her, may it ease our sadness and
strengthen our hope. One day we shall joyfully greet her again when the
love of Christ, which conquers all things, destroys even death itself.
May the choirs of angels come to greet you.
May they speed you to paradise.
May the Lord enfold you in his mercy.
May you find eternal life.
Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our sister Cilla, in sure
and certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, she will
rise with him on the last day.
We give thanks for the blessings which you have bestowed upon Cilla in
this life: they are signs to us of your goodness and of our fellowship with
the saints in Christ.
Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayers: open the gates of
paradise to your servant and help us who remain to comfort one another
with assurances of faith, until we meet in Christ and are with you and with
our sister for ever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Now in peace, let us take Cilla to her place of rest.
