BIO 1000 - Human Biology for Non-Majors 3 (3 + 0)
Prerequisite: Minimum performance standard scores on reading, writing, and mathematics preassessment placement
tests
This one-semester course familiarizes the student with the principles of the living world, the basic form and function of the
human body, and how these two relate to each other. Basic variations of life forms and the interrelationships of the human
body to the surrounding world are the main thrusts of the course. This course does not apply toward a biology major or

Effective fall 2013 the NC grade notation will no longer be applied to academic records. For information on this and other

Exams and Grade1. There will be four lecture exams worth 100 points (400 total). Lecture exams will consist of objective
(multiple choice, true/false, etc.) and short answer questions.
One written assignment worth 30 points (details provided in class)
Connect assignments worth 60 points
Take home genetics exercise worth 10 ponts
2. Grades will be curved curved. Below are the tentative points for each letter grade.
A 450-500 (90%)
B 400-449 (80%)
C 350-399 (70%)
D 300-349 (60%)

F <300 (<60%)
3. Make-up exams will be given during the final exam period. Only one make-up will be allowed.

4. No exam may be started 15 minutes after the beginning of the class period.
5. Cheating of any sort will result in IMMEDIATE EXPULSION from the class with a grade of F.

Class Attendance on Religious Holidays
Students at Metro State who, because of their sincerely held religious beliefs, are unable to attend classes, take
examinations, participate in graded activities or submit graded assignments on particular days shall without penalty be
excused from such classes and be given a meaningful opportunity to make up such examinations and graded activities or
assignments provided that advance written notice that the student will be absent for religious reasons is given to the
faculty members during the first two weeks of the semester.
