Next Generation Networks

DURATION
2 Days
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This 2-day training course provides an understanding of the technologies, multimedia services and the
market for Next Generation Networks.
This course introduces the evolution from legacy telecommunications networks, towards a converged
multimedia network infrastructure designed to deliver a broad array of services and applications. IP
Multimedia Subsystems and associated protocols are discussed along with Access and Core network
technologies. Within this technological context, provision of IP enabled services and applications are
considered.

PRE-REQUISITES
A basic understanding of telecommunications would be an advantage, but is not essential.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the delegate will be able to:
Define the evolution of telecommunications networks from silo services towards a multimedia service
oriented environment
Identify the main technologies that will be deployed in next generation networks
Describe the functions and features of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)
List and discuss possible IMS services
Sketch the main components of the IMS and describe their function
Describe the architecture of a Next Generation Network (NGN) and describe the functionality it
supports
Describe the role of IP and IP-related protocols within modern core network architectures
Identify how services will be delivered and controlled within IP-based networks
Describe the principles of VoIP services
Identify the architecture required to deliver IPTV and describe example IPTV services
