Senior Center seeking
volunteer van drivers
The Germantown Senior Center is looking for volunteer van drivers for the Senior
Van Program. Volunteers must have a valid
Wisconsin driver's license and a clean driving record. A vehicle will be provided for use.
The van runs weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More than $2 million available for
housing repairs
The
Wisconsin
Department
of
Administration (DOA) Division of Housing
awarded $2,138,776 in Phase 2 funds to the
Southern Housing Region for the Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing
Program.
The Southern Housing Region is represented by the counties of Columbia, Dodge,
Jefferson, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock,
Sauk, Walworth and Washington. The following entitlement communities are not eligible for the Southern Housing Region: Racine,
Beloit, Janesville and Kenosha.
Owner occupied households. These
funds will be lent to income eligible households for eligible home repairs. The loan is
a 0% interest, deferred payment loan you
do not pay it back until you sell the house, no
longer live there or 30 years from the date of
the note.
Homebuyer assistance. These funds
will be lent to income eligible tenants for
down payment and closing cost assistance.
There may also be funds available to make
repairs to the home that is purchased. The
loan is a 0% interest, deferred payment loan
you do not pay it back until you sell the
house, no longer live there or 30 years from
the date of the note.

Landlords. Installment loans are available for landlords who rent to tenants that
are low- to moderate- income. The loan is a
0% interest loan.
Funding for these competitive biannual
awards is provided by the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development.
Grants were awarded based upon the age
of housing in the area, the low-to-moderate
income population, unemployment rate and
affordability.

'King Arthur's Quest' comes to
Schauer Center Aug. 21, 22
The public is invited to journey through
Camelot with King Arthur and the Knights of
the Round Table. Missoula Childrens
Theatre brings King Arthurs Quest to the
Schauer Arts Center on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7
p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. Local
students will bring to life an original musical
adaptation for all to enjoy.
Missoula Childrens Theatre (MCT) takes
a full-scale production from try outs to performances in only one week. Auditions for
local students entering grades 1-12 will be
held on Monday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. and last
approximately 90-120 minutes. Registration
begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Schauer Center
lobby. No advance preparation is necessary
and there is no fee to audition, but audition is
required for participation. Tuition is $65 for
those cast in the production and includes
enrollment in one MCT theater workshop and
one complimentary ticket.
Tickets to King Arthurs Quest are $14 for
adults, $10 for students, $8 for children (12
and under), and $5 for lap seats. Tickets can
be purchased at the Schauer Center Box
Office Monday through Friday from 11:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30
a.m. to 2 p.m. at 147 N. Rural Street in

Pilgrim Road construction changes

planned for next week
The southbound ramp from Pilgrim
Road to Hwy. 41/45 will close at 5 a.m.
Aug. 24, the state Department of
Transportation (DOT) said in a statement
last week.
Pilgrim Road from Megal Drive to
Main Street in Menomonee Falls is undergoing a reconstruction this year. As part of
the reconstruction, the bridge crossing over
Hwy. 41/45 is being replaced.
The DOT stated that the contractor for
the project, Zignego, plans to reopen the
southbound ramp in late fall.The signed
detour will be to go south on Pilgrim Road
to Main St., then east to the Main St. onramp.
Also, during the week of Aug. 24, all
traffic on Main Street will be shifted to the
westbound lanes, which are nearing completion. Brian DeNeve, a spokesperson for
the DOT, added that traffic on Pilgrim
Road is anticipated to be shifted to the

southbound lane by early September.

Hwy. 41/45 project begins
Work began Aug. 17 on improvements
to Hwy. 41/45 from County Line Road to
the split of 41 and 45.
According to the DOT, the project will
involve the concrete base repair and
resurfacing throughout the project limits;
installing a high friction surface treatment
while building up the curve banking from
Friedstadt Road to Holy Hill Road; and
reconstructing the southbound bridge at
the US 41/45 split.
In a statement, the DOT said initial
work involves concrete base patching and
shoulder widening. Initial work will include
lane closures scheduled during off-peak
times and minimal traffic impacts are
expected. The agency state that when
bridge work begins this fall, greater traffic
impacts are anticipated.

A male patron fled Buffalo Wild

without paying for a beer and nearly
struck another car in the parking lot at
6:02 p.m. Aug. 3. Police stopped the man
and warned him to never return to the
establishment.
A male patron of Bier Stiebe, N116
W15863 Main St., was warned to never
return to the establishment after causing a
disturbance Aug. 1. Investigation determined the man had behaved in an unruly
manner and called a waitress names.
Domestic violence
A male subject was arrested for dis-

orderly conduct-domestic violence at 4:08

p.m. Aug. 3 following a physical altercation with his brother in the W19000 block
of Shadow Wood Court.
Retail theft
A male subject was cited for retail
theft-first offense at 11:50 a.m. Aug. 4 at
Fleet Farm, N96 W18200 County Line

Police investigaging crash

Germantown Police are investigating a

vehicle crash that occurred during the early
afternoon hours of Aug. 19.
According to a statement from the
Germantown Police Deparement, a call was
received at 1:48pm of a head-on collision
involving a dump truck and a pickup truck on
Freistadt Road, just west of Country Aire
Drive. Police stated it appeared the dump
truck was traveling eastbound on Freistadt

Road, crossed the center line and struck the

pickup truck head on.
The driver of the dump truck was a 53year-old man from Saukville while the driver
of the pickup truck was a 59-year-old man
from Beaver Dam. The Germantown Fire
Department responded to the scene and provided medical attention to both drivers, who
were transported to Community Memorial
Hospital for treatment.

was approved by an 8-1 vote, with Trustee
David Baum voting against the motion.

director named
Larry Ratayczak has been selected as
the new public works director for the village of Germantown, Germantown
Administrator David Schornack said last
week.
Ratayczak currently holds the same
position with the city of West Bend. He will
begin work with Germantown on Aug.
31.He will replace Dan Ludwig, who
retired earlier this summer.

Germantown assistant selected

for coaches Hall of Fame
Germantown Defensive Coordinator
Dave Branske was recently selected to the
Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
During an interview at the
Germantown Gridiron Club Family Fun
Day Aug. 8, Branske said he found out
about the honor in June as he was at
Mitchell International Airport, ready to go
on vacation.
"That was kind of neat, right before I
took off," Branske said. "It was awesome."
The formal recognition ceremony will
be on April 9 at the Marriott West in
Middleton.
Branske said this is his 30th year of
coaching.
"I expected to coach for a long time,
but you never know how long it going to
last when you begin. You're just hoping
that you have the longevity; that you're
healthy enough to do it for a long period
of time, and I was fortunate enough to do

that," Branske said.

He said he continues to coach because
he enjoys being around students and the
coaches.
"It's like a family, and it's really hard to
leave when it seems like it's part of your
family," Branske said.
Branske said that one change to the
sport has been the specialization, as there
is more conditioning and offseason training.
"The kids are in better condition -they're bigger, stronger and faster, and I
think they understand the sport a little bit
more than they did back then," Branske
said.
He added that what has remained the
same "is the sport comes down to blocking,
tackling and execution of the fundamentals. That's the way it's always going to be,
I think."
