Mirik

The town of Mirik is located in the Indian state of West Bengal. Mirik is known primarily for its many scenic locations, and it
is an important tourist destination. It is a hill station that is not as prominently known as Darjeeling, and this place can be

Getting There
The hill town of Mirik is connected to other places in the state only through regular buses and taxis. You can take trains and

When To Go
The best time to visit the hill town of Mirik would be during the summer months, as people visit this town in droves during
this time in order to escape the summer heat. Temperatures during the summer season in Mirik are mild and not as harsh
as the temperatures in the sub continent, and for this reason, many people flock here. The winter season is very cold, and
you can visit Mirik during this time, provided you carry very thick clothing.
Summers in Mirik are not hot, and they are during the months of March, April, May and June. Among these four months,
April is the hottest month and temperatures during this time can reach a maximum of thirty degrees (30C). Temperatures
will reach a minimum of fifteen degrees (15C) during this time too. This is an ideal time to visit the place.
The town of Mirik is affected by the influence of the South West monsoon, so in the months of July, August and September,
temperatures fall significantly and the hill town is drenched by frequent and persistent showers. The town is at its full bloom
during this time.
The winter season in Mirik pleasant through its early stages and cold towards the later stages of the season and this is a
god time to visit Mirik too. Temperatures may fluctuate during this time, reaching a maximum of twenty degrees (20C) and
a minimum of around one degree (1C during the winter season.

Mirik Lake, also referred to as Samendu Lake is the most picturesque spot in Mirik. Located in the heart of Mirik, the lake is
1.25 km in length and the depth of the water varies from a minimum of 3 ft to a maximum of 26 ft. With serene
surroundings, a walk around the lake would be a fascinating one. Besides, visitors can also enjoy boating and horse riding
here.

Boker Ngedon Chokor Ling Monastery


Boker Ngedon Chokor Ling Monastery is a popular tourist place in Mirik. One of the main Buddhist centres in the region,
this monastery is home to around 500 monks who study the philosophy of Buddhism and dharma rituals. It was established
as a retreat centre in 1984 by Kyabje Boker Rinpoche. Later, it was transformed into a monastery.

Devi-Sthan
Devi-Sthan, a small temple lying on the banks of Mirik Lake is a highly visited spot in the region. Set amid the lush green
Dhupi forest, the main deity worshipped here is Goddess Singha Devi.
