PREFACE

To achieve partial and concrete results, it is necessary that theoretical knowledge

must be supplemented with practical environment. Keeping this view in mind, we
have completed our project on Application of Computer & IT in Business &
Different Sectors. By doing this project work we have learnt a lot of things
which would be really helpful for us in future. This experience in decision making
and practical application of knowledge has contributed greatly to my growth.
From the starting till the completion of this project, there are many people
without whose assistance all my efforts would have been fruitless. We are deeply
indebted to Mr. N. Vankeshan (PROFESSER, PGDM), whose sincere cooperation in
directing and guiding us enabled the project to assume its systematic shape. We
would like to state that the project not only fulfilled an academic requirement,
but would also help me in future endeavors in the years to come.

Introduction of computers and IT in Business

Consider this statement Computers are everywhere does this sound overstatement? We
would say the statement is true. Computers are everywhere. In fact you can find them in some
pretty unlikely places, including family car, your home appliances and even in our alarm
clock.
Almost every business uses computers to complete daily tasks. From making contact with
clients to inputting data for reports, computers allow businesses a more efficient way to
manage affairs when compared to traditional paper and manila folders. Businesses use a
variety of different types of computers such as desktops, laptops, servers, smart phones and
tablets, depending on their needs. With computers, employees are able to work anytime,
anywhere.
A computer is an electronic device that process data, converting it into information that is
useful to peopleregardless of its type thats controlled by programmed instructions, which
gives the machine a purpose and tell it what to do.
No person can imagine his/her life without the computers networks and Information
Technology.

Application of Computers and IT systems in Business

Communication
Communication is key when gaining and maintaining clients and other important contacts.
Computers give businesses access to email, instant messaging and custom customer contact
systems. Computerized phone systems allow for automated support during off hours and a
virtual operator can quickly direct callers to the correct department for faster support.
Marketing (Social Media Promotion)
Computers allow businesses to create websites, stunning ads and complete marketing
campaigns. Marketing videos can be edited and custom ads created in-house with the use of
specialized software. Businesses can completely develop and manage websites with their own
servers or connect remotely to a third-party business to upload their latest content such as
articles, product images and blog posts.
Accounting
Accounting without computers presents a high risk for human error. Accounting software
allows businesses to simply input their financial data and instantly see gains and losses. All
necessary tax reports are available the moment the data is entered. Using computers for
invoicing, managing expenses and calculating payroll is vital for ensuring financial data is as
accurate as possible.
Storage
Instead of filing cabinets, businesses are able to store millions of files using computers and
servers. Data can be stored centrally for easy access from multiple computers or stored
locally for individual use. Computerized storage saves space and provides a far more efficient
organization strategy. With encryption, passwords and replace keys, data remains secure.
Documents and Reports
Most businesses have some sort of productivity software which typically includes a word
processor and spreadsheet application. These two programs allow businesses to create
reports, memos, tutorials and even colorful ads for company events. Spreadsheet applications
give businesses the chance to organize, manage and calculate both numeric and alphabetic
data. With charts and graphs, reporting becomes visual instead of text-based.
Research & Development
From learning more about the competition to discovering what customers really want,
research isn't as difficult as it once was, thanks to computers. Search engines, forums, social
networks and industry specific websites provide businesses with a wealth of information and
research data.

Example of Integrated Application to Manage Business

ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING (ERP) is business management software
usually a suite of integrated applicationsthat a company can use to collect, store, manage
and interpret data from many business activities, including:

Product planning, cost

Manufacturing or service delivery

Marketing and sales

Inventory management

Shipping and payment

ERP provides an integrated view of core business processes, often in real-time, using
common databases maintained by a database management system. ERP systems track
business resourcescash, raw materials, production capacityand the status of business
commitments: orders, purchase orders, and payroll. The applications that make up the system
share data across the various departments (manufacturing, purchasing, sales, accounting, etc.)
that provide the data. ERP facilitates information flow between all business functions, and
manages connections to outside stakeholders.

Uses of Computers & IT in different sectors

Computers have become an essential part of modern human life. Since the invention of

Owing to the widespread use of computers in every sphere, Life in todays world would be
unimaginable without computers. They have made human lives better and happier. There are
many computer uses in different fields of work. Engineers, architects, jewelers, and
filmmakers all use computers to design things. Teachers, writers, and most office

Computers have its dominant use in the education field which can significantly enhance
performance in learning. Even distance learning is made productive and effective through
internet and video-based classes. Researchers have massive usage of these computers in their
work from the starting to till the end of their scholarly work.
Computers in our Health and Medicine:
Most of the medical information can now be digitized from the prescription to reports.
Computation in the field of medicine allows us to offer varied miraculous therapies to the
patients. ECGs, radiotherapy wasnt possible without computers.
Aid of Computers at Financial Institutions:
We know well that computers are being used by the financial institutions like banks for
different purposes. The foremost important thing is to store information about different
account holders in a database to be available at any time. Keeping the records of the cash
flow, giving the information regarding your account,
Computers are a part of our Transport System:
With internet on computers we can know the details of the buses or trains or the flight
available to our desired destination. The timings and even the updates on the delay can also
be known through these computers. We can book our tickets through online. Staff of the
transport system will keep a track of the passengers, trains or flight details, departure and
arrival timings by using computers.

Computers for our Pass time:

Computers are now the major entertainers and the primary pass time machines. We can use
computers for playing games, watching movies, listening to music, drawing pictures.

effectively without computer.
Wonders of Computer in E-Commerce:
Electronic mail is the revolutionary service offered by the computes. Video Conferencing is
also another major advantage. Electronic shopping through online shopping added favor to
purchaser and merchants. Electronic banking is now at your hand where every bank has
online support for transaction of monetary issues. You can easily transfer your money
anywhere even from your home.
Computer at our Defense:
Computers are the main tools which help in developing missiles and other equipment in the
deference system. Designing and the maintenance are possible only through computers.
Computer builds the links between the soldiers and commanders through the satellite.
Construction of weapons and controlling their function is not possible without the aid of
computers. The list of the criminals and the records of the cops are maintained regularly in
the system.
Computer is todays Designer:
As per the title, computers aid in designing buildings, magazines, prints, newspapers, books
and many others. The construction layouts are designed beautifully on system using different
tools and softwares.

Conclusion
Sometime in early 1900s a German named Konrad Zuse invented the first computer. It was a
functional program controlled computer. He was also a computer pioneer. The society in
which we live today has evolved in many ways. One way society has advanced so rapidly
over the years is through the use of an amazing device known as computers. And after
coming of Internet it has created so many wonders.
Today one can find computers everywhere. Some of this location are to include the home,
your place of business, school, and local library and are drug store. Some other locations are
restaurants, hospitals and shop departments. And now everything is just a way of your finger
tip. You can book your tickets online, communicate online, store data online, and you can do
shopping online.
So as we can see that the computers and IT is damn resourceful tool we couldnt imagine life
these days without one. Cease and embrace all opportunity to stimulate your knowledge,
moving forward with the worlds greatest invention Computer.
