INTRODUCTION TO CRYOBENTHICS

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Einstein

This web-site is designed to share what Ive been doing for the past 25
years, since I quit college and became a student of the universe. In
high school I was the straight-A/science nerd guy; from my early
years I had been a space cadet and ardently consumed the televised
Apollo missions. When I was twelve I had a sort of mystical contact
experience that turned me on to the awe and mystery of astronomy.
My earliest still photography was of astronomical subjects.
When I went to college, I thought I wanted to be a professional
astronomer; but when I got there, I realized that professional
astronomers do not so much look at the heavens through telescopes as
they do advanced mathematics in computers. Moreover, my left
cerebral hemisphere was already highly developed; my right
hemisphere, unbeknownst to me at the time, was crying out for
nurturing.
Consequently, I was unable to be a straight-A student in college; but
I intensely pursued paths that interested me, especially after my
physics lab instructor turned me onto books by John C. Lilly and Fritjof
Capra. I also discovered Carlos Castaneda at this time.
I became very interested in the brain/mind scenario, as well as the
concept of extra-terrestrial intelligence, particularly Lillys angle,
which was that the cetaceans actually are an extra-terrestrial
intelligence living on the same planet as us, and for far longer. For a
while I then wanted to go to medical school and become a psychiatrist;
I changed majors to zoology and psychology.
After three years of not really doing the college thing, and being very
disenchanted with formal academia, I quit; but I was discovering a
world of new and interesting ideas. At this same time I was beginning
an inner journey, and began to experiment with some psychedelics in a
very controlled way, after two years of preparing myself. I visualized
what I wanted to do: to work equally in words, visuals, and music, the
three primary ways that humans communicate and express
themselves. Language, light and sound: the foundations of human
information processing.
I started painting, teaching myself how to play piano and guitar, and
writing, on a conscious path of continual and creative spiritual growth
and self-reprogramming; to visualize who and what I wanted to be and
actually to do and become it.

During this period I also had begun to travel, venturing twice to Esalen
in California, then moving there in 1980. In 1981 I hitch-hiked for the
first time, and all through the 80s I would live for a few months
somewhere, then travel for a while, gradually exploring the vastness of
the usa and Canada.
In 1988 I began to base myself in Boulder, Colorado, and it was here
that I first came up with the concept of synthaissance cryobenthics in
1990. My background in science had always been of service when I
needed new forms of expression. I somehow merged synthesis with
renaissance, and cryogenics with benthic. A flowering of
creativity thats extremely cool and very deep. Perfecta humorous
mis-application of scientific terminology that perfectly expressed what I
was all about!
Synthaissance cryobenthics is a new paradigmthe next level beyond
the out-dated and troublesome worldview that Fritjof Capra called the
Newtonian/Cartesian paradigm.
I had always been inspired by a quote from my favorite visionary
William Blake: I must create a system or be a slave to another
mans.
In the spirit of what the ancient Greeks called physis, which was the
whole of natural science including medicine; what they called trivium
(logic, rhetoric, and grammar) and quadrivium (music, astronomy,
arithmetic, and geometry), or what we call the seven liberal artsI
offer you synthaissance cryobenthics.
What I have tried to do is not only to share with you the full spectrum
of my own creative work, but also to create a big picture perspective
of where we find ourselves now as human beings.
High-quality information that is relevant and accurate is essential for
maintaining a valid worldview; I have attempted to provide a wide
diversity of inter-related materials and links in this site which are each
an essential dimension of being-here-now.
This site is a compressed cross-section of what Im all about. If I can
share anything useful, or inspire anyone else to explore the limitless
world of their own creativity, then I consider it a success!
The universe is calling on each of us to do our best with the vast gifts
we have been given; we have to bring these on-line NOW, actualize
our potentials at the individual and collective levels, and make a
quantum leap from a civilization based on knowledge to one based on
imagination.
