Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) is a dynamic human rights organisation with a long track-record
of human rights activism and public interest litigation in South Africa. We offer human rights

prison reform, environmental justice and constitutional litigation.

Advocate / Attorney: Strategic Litigation Programme


The Strategic Litigation Programme is looking for an advocate or attorney with experience in
constitutional and public interest litigation. Good writing and research skills as well as right of
appearance in the High Court are essential. Key responsibilities include providing hands-on
expert legal advice and representation to LHRs clients, including communities and civil society
organisations, on a wide range of human rights issues.

Attorney: Refugee and Migrant Rights


LHR seeks the temporary services of an attorney in the Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme,
to be based in Pretoria. The contract will be for a period of 8 months, with no guarantee of
renewal. The incumbent will be working as part of a team in a busy and vibrant refugee law clinic,
conducting litigation and providing legal advice prevalently with clients who face mental health
challenges. The position calls for a compassionate and dedicated attorney who is able to work
with a diverse and challenging client base.

LHR seeks to employ self-motivated law graduates with an interest in human rights litigation
and good practice management to apply for candidate attorney positions in Johannesburg and
Pretoria. The programme is an opportunity to gain valuable practice exposure under the guidance
of skilled human rights lawyers. LHR offers a dynamic but challenging articling experience for
self-motivated and energetic individuals.
