1.1

Getting Started

1.1.1

General
The FDT Container functionality of IndraWorks is named IW FDT Container.
It is provided in the library of IndraWorks by the node "FDT-Container".
The IW FDT Container is used to integrate 3rd party engineering tools, which
are provided as DTMs (Device Type Manager). Basis is FDT standard 1.2.

1.1.2

Installation of DTMs
The 3rd party engineering tools (DTMs) are provided by the device vendor. First,
the DTMs must be installed on the PC.
Therefore, all Windows applications must be closed, including IndraWorks.
The installed DTM's are listed in Start - Control Panel - Add or Re
move Programs. You can remove them here, if necessary.

1.1.3

Update of the DTM Catalog in the Library

Proceed as follows:

1.1.4

1.

Start IndraWorks.

2.

The Library function is to be activated in the View menu to display the

library.

3.

Start the Update DTM Catalog function in the Tools menu. A progress bar
is displayed, this can take several minutes.

IndraWorks scans for installed DTMs in the Windows registry and

displays them in the library in the "DTM catalog" folder.

The DTMs are structured by means of subfolders. The subfolders

correspond to the supported field bus protocols, e.g. the "ProfibusDP".

The GSD file is extracted from the DTMs for the Profibus slaves and
imported into the "Periphery" folder of the library.

No GSD file could be extracted for the Profibus slaves DTMs

listed in the "Output" .

The imported GSD files are only available for the IndraLogic
2.x.

The Properties function can be called for every DTM in the

library via the context-sensitive menu.

Activate FDT Container Functionality in the Project

Select the entry "FDT Container" in the "Drive and Control" folder of the library
and drag it to the project node in the project explorer.

1.1.5

Adding DTMs to the Project

There are two possibilities to add DTMs to the project:
1.

via context-sensitive menu

Select the node "FDT-Container", a subfolder or a DTM in the project

explorer and open the context-sensitive menu.

2.

1.1.6

Activate Add Device and select a DTM in the selection dialog.

Confirm with OK.

via Drag & Drop

Select a DTM in the "DTM catalog" folder of the library.

Drag the DTM to the project explorer on the "FDT-Container" node,

on a subfolder or an DTM.

Structuring the DTMs by means of folders

DTM can be structured or grouped by means of folders.
The following function are provided by the context-sensitive menu:

Add Folder

Delete

Rename

Folders can be added to:

Folder below the FDT container

Communication DTMs or gateway DTMs

Context-Sensitive Menu of DTMs

The DTMs provide their functions via the context-sensitive menu. The content
of the context-sensitive menu depends partially on the state of the DTM, e. g.
online or offline. Some functions are standardized, e. g.:

Delete

Rename

Add

Go Online

Go Offline

Download Parameter into Device

Upload Parameter from Device

Properties

DTM specific functions are offered in the context-sensitive menu entry Other
Functions.

1.1.8

"Properties" Dialog Box

The following information about the DTM selected in the "Project Explorer" is
shown in the Properties dialog:

Instance: Information on device instance

Type: Information on device type

DTM: Information on Device Type Manager (DTM)

Notes: Notes on device instance

The notes will be stored in IndraWorks, but not in the physical de
vice.

1.1.9

Online Parameterization via DTM

The physical communication path (field bus structure) must be emulated by the
associated DTMs. Thereby, the access to the field bus will be established by a

communication DTM. The device DTMs are located below the communication
DTM.
When being inserted, every DTM must be given the address of the associated
physical device in the field bus.
Go Online

If these conditions are fulfilled and a physical connection via field bus to the
devices exists, the DTMs can be switched online.
To do this use the Go Online entry of the context-sensitive menu of the DTM.
Normally, switching a DTM online causes the automatic online
switch of a superior DTM (e. g. communication DTM).
Now you can use the functionalities of the DTM to change online parameters,
configurations etc. in the associated physical device.

Go Offline

If you want to close the connection to the physical device, use the Go Offline
entry in the context-sensitive menu of the DTM.
Normally, switching a DTM offline causes the automatic offline
switch of the inferior DTMs.

1.1.10

Opening Projects
If the project to be opened contains DTMs, the structure data of the DTMs will
be loaded. The DTMs themselves will only be loaded when they are used. This
applies, e. g., when the context-sensitive menu is displayed.

1.1.11

Saving Projects
When the project is saved the DTM data will be saved, too.

1.1.12

Closing Projects
When a project is closed the open DTMs will be closed or shut down.

1.2

Tips and Tricks

1.2.1

Activating the "Output" Window

The "Output" window shows the error messages of the DTMs for example. Ac
tivate the Output function in the View Other Windows menu.

1.2.2

Empty DTM Catalog / "Selection of DTM" Dialog Box

If the DTM Catalog or the Selection of DTM dialog box are empty, the DTM
catalog must be updated.
Use the Update DTM Catalog function in the Tools menu.

1.2.3

Installed DTM not in the DTM Catalog

If a DTM, that has been installed later, does not appear in the DTM Catalog or
in the Selection of DTM dialog box, the DTM catalog must be updated.
Use the Update DTM Catalog function in the Tools menu.

1.2.4

Online / Offline Switch

Going online or offline takes some time with several DTMs. Please wait.
If the DTM is offline, the context-sensitive menu contains a Go Online entry. If
the DTM is online, the context-sensitive menu contains a Go Offline entry.
