Volcanoes

A volcano is a mountain with a large opening at the top through which gases and
lava are forced out into the air. Volcanoes happen because the Earth is hot inside. The
heat gets too hot and erupts lava through the opening of the volcano. A volcano is
formed when magma gushes up from mantle and breaks through a crack or weak spot in
the crust. The magma lies in a chamber deep inside a volcano. Pressure builds up, forcing
the magma to escape through a passageway called a vent. Once the magma reaches the
surface it is called lava. An exploding volcano throws lava, gas and ash into the air.
Most of the people who live near the volcanoes However, people living near
volcanoes can benefit from them. The heat from the volcanoes can be turned into
electricity. Heat energy called geothermal energy can be collected and used for heating
and to generate electricity. Volcanic soil is good for farming too. The soil is made up of
eroded lava or ash. Therefore, it is rich in minerals that plants need to grow.
