BRIEF:
(1) The Micro-Concrete Pan is design and developed by a Bhopal based NGO, Energy
Environment & Development Society ( R-12 GTB Complex, New Market, Bhopal mail:
eeds@rediffmail.com )
(2) The cost of the sanitary pan is estimated Rs 110-120/ - per unit. However, it may
vary as per the local labour rates and cost of raw material.
(3) Material used in the eeds Pan is Micro-concrete and alternative available locally, like
fly-ash, stone crusher dust, etc.

The 5 Toilets fitted with the sanitary Pan produced by EEDS are reported as
working satisfactorily in Panchayats of block Karera District Shivpuri from the
year 2008. The places can be visited.

EEDS has also devised suitable processes so that the Pan can be produced by
local groups using low cost and easy to handle machines i.e. multipurpose
vibrator installed on a trailer which can be shifted for decentralize production.
The ECOSAN PAN is also designed/ produced and fitted for demonstration in a
village of Guna district.
The Prefabricated toilets are also designed, developed and constructed using
similar technology / material in slumps of Bhopal under MP urban slum project.

DEMONSTATION TO PRODUCE THE PAN

Under the Pan in The Van Approach- Pan is a critical element in demonstration of toilet
construction technology. During the camp of Pan in The Van, there is tool PRODUCE YOUR
OWN PAN which not only explains the technology but also encourages community to learn
producing a Pan using their own material.

The wall boards and T shape pillars

are designed using micro-concrete and
vibration techniques. the size of a board is
1x1 meter with 1.5 inches thickness. the 6
wall boards are fixed with the support of four
pillars for constructing the toilet structure and
various options have been provided for the
roof, gate, squatting platform, rural pan etc.

The eeds Pan and Production unit is designed in the year of 2008 with the help of local
material namely Micro Concrete. These machines are demonstrated during the Pan in The
Van programmers under the tool known as produce your PAN. This is a multipurpose
machine not only used for production of Pan but also can produce the wall, pillars, MCR tiles
etc.
The research of the same has been undertaken for last three years in the villages for normal
pan. It was in the Karera; district Shivpuri by whereas demos of the Pan have been made in
each camps under PAN IN THE VAN APPROACH.
The same is demonstrated in SECOSEN in 2008.A research proposal was also submitted to
the government of India and presented before the committee R&D committee.

IEC on Technical aspect is a important components. Pan in Van Approach develop a

production unit and community can produce their pan and understand its importance.
