Service and Leadership Development Scholarship (New Students)

Initial Eligibility
Scholarship Application
Two (2) letters of recommendation
Demonstration of financial need as determined by the
combination of the Department of Educations eligibilty
calculation from the FAFSA information, the students
estimated cost of attendance and the resulting unmet
expenses after all federal and state aid has been
considered.
Completion of essay of 250 words (one page typed,
double-spaced) to address the following:
Explain a memorable volunteer or leadership
experience, either in school or the community.
Acceptance to Harrington College of Design
Enrollment in a minimum of six (6) credit hours

$1000 - $3000 disbursed over two consecutive semesters.

To maintain eligibility for the second disbursement, the
student must:
Register for six (6) or more credit hours for 2nd
semester
Achieve a 2.5 GPA in Harrington coursework
during the first semester of eligibility
Meet with an advisor four (4) times during the
semester
Document participation in a minimum of five (5)
hours of Harrington sponsored activities. Activities
may include service to student sponsored
organizations/events or service to professional
organizations
Participate in one financial literacy activity during
the term

Scholarship application materials are due no later than

the end of the business day (5pm CST) on the
specified due date above. Materials may be
submitted via postal mail, fax or email. If sent by
postal mail, the completed submission must be
received no later than the stated deadline. On each
submitted item, please indicated the students
name, admissions representative and start date.

Scholarships are not deferrable, renewable or transferable and

are subject to change. Students must maintain the minimum
requirements for eligibility in order to receive the second
disbursement. Students withdrawing, not attending the second
semester or not
registering for six (6) credit hours forfeit eligibility to the second
disbursement.
All applications will be considered and awarded via
selection by the scholarship committee. Incomplete
applications will not be considered. Letters of
recommendation must be written by someone other than
a family member. The letters should address the
students abilities as they pertain to service and
leadership in school, work or the community.
Applications can be obtained from the Office of
Admissions. Please note, the student is responsible for
confirming receipt and legibility of the completed
scholarship package.
