WINNING NOTE AT HOME
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Adelaide,SA | The Adelaide Falcons took an early lead and
did not let the Melbourne Monarchs back in to score a 2014 win over the Melbourne Monarchs.
The loss by Melbourne almost certainly ensures
they will win the dreaded wooden spoon and Coach Steve
Ella was nonplussed about the situation. "Just another
week, another loss" he said. "Yeah we tried hard but we
still did not do enough to make the win happen. It has been
a tough year and we are all looking forward to the end".
The key for Adelaide was that they were prepared
to get into the grind and not make big mistakes nor give up
the big play. AFter stopping Melbourne they produced an 8
play 65 yard drive that saw big Tight End Matt Speath
break free from a tackle by Matt Moefaueo to score.
Melbourne did bounce back with Tyrone Redman
going in on an 8 yard pass over the middle but that was
their best period of the game and the only time they would
be on equal terms. Adelaide put two drives together in the
2nd quarter which ended in field goals and in the end those
6 points would prove the difference.
Both teams turned the ball over in the third
quarter and that kept the period scoreless. The Falcons had
struggled to run the ball with Shane Wash not generating
any yardage on the ground but big Mike Darby got things
going against a tiring defence. He scored on a 12 yard draw
right up the middle.
The Monarchs did score with still 6 minutes
remaining in the game, Redman grabbing his second but
the Falcons were able to run down the clock.
