SPEECH BY THE CHAIRPERSON AT THE 6TH NATIONAL

DELEGATES CONFERENCE HELD ON 2ND SEPTEMBER

2015 AT MANDELA NATIONAL STADIUM

Your Excellencies,
The Acting Party President
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament
Members of the National Executive Committee
Honourable Members of Parliament,
LC V Chairpersons and Municipal Mayors
Distinguished Delegates
Invited Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen

This is my first time to address this National Delegates

Conference as the Chairperson of the Party. On 11 June 2015,
I stood before you as a candidate for the same position and I
am now indeed delighted to receive all of you and express
my renewed pleasure in having the opportunity to meet with
you again today.

I wish to begin by recognizing the elders the Party who are

gone but have left behind a legacy of putting together a wellorganized party. I want to specifically note the Late Dr.
1

Suleiman Kiggundu, the first National Chairperson of FDC and

my predecessor, the late Hon. Sam Njuba.

Without their

sacrifices towards fighting for democracy, we would not be

assembled here today.
Such gatherings as this, serve as basis for bonding together
as members of one great party, the FDC. It is also a platform
to renew our commitment to our great party and a signal to
the World for our belief in the tenets of democracy.
Ladies and Gentlemen, our meeting here today is for a very
important

assignment

under

the

theme,

Enhancing

Peaceful Democratic Political Change. How we conduct

our affairs today therefore will be the signal to the world of
our

readiness

to

give

Uganda

better

alternative

government.
Today it is the people of the party that should have their say.
What the delegates assembled here today decide on is what
should hold. It should be the guiding principle for all of us.
We should all unite behind whatever comes out and put our
personal biases aside.
We should not give room to discontent. We should not give

room for rancor. We should not give room for division within
our ranks. We should leave here as one strong, united party.
We should show the world that we are one family of many

party

and

do

realize

that

our

strength

lies

in

our

collectiveness and singleness of purpose. And I tell you my

dear friends, brothers and sisters that power is there for our
taking if only we put our house in order.
Today, we should leave this meeting, well rejuvenated and
ready to face 2016. Ladies and gentlemen, I tell you, that if
we are able to show this singleness of purpose and show to
the world that we are strong, united body, a greater part of
the job to recapture power in 2016 would have been done.
The world is watching, Ugandans are watching, we dare not
fail them. We dare not fail ourselves.
I lastly re-echo two words, Mobilise and Organise. I argue all
of you to go back and Mobilise and Organise yourselves for
2016. We should demonstrate our strong capacity to secure
and protect our vote. We should insist to know the results at
every polling station.

We should not be afraid of being

beaten; we cannot give away the future of our country

because of fear.
Lastly, I want to thank God for this opportunity He has
accorded us to elect leaders of the Forum for Democratic

Change.

I wish to thank all of you who have offered

yourselves for various leadership positions and especially Dr.

Kizza Besigye and Maj. Gen.(Rtd) Mugisha Muntu who have

traversed this country with dignity and made FDC proud. I

wish all you he best of luck!
It is now my pleasure to declare the 6 th National Delegates
Conference of the Forum for Democratic Change Open.

One Uganda One People!

I thank you for your attention.
