Cyber-attack has as much impact as the bomber or the assassin

LEADING UAE GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

JOIN GULF CYBER SUMMIT IN ABU DHABI
Delegates to September Forum will Learn of Increased Danger
from Cyber-Attack and Fraud
Regional Cyber Security Spend Estimated at $25 Billion over Next 10 Years
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, 01 September, 2015 Major UAE and Emirati
Government Departments handling cyber-security issues have signed up to attend the
first GCC CYBER-SECURITY SUMMIT, which runs from 13-16 September in Abu Dhabi at the
Abu Dhabi Beach Rotana Hotel.
Leading international experts on cyber security will examine in detail the threats to the
UAE and the region from the so-called Darknet and from regional terrorism.
Delegations are attending from the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA),

the UAE Ministries of Interior, Health and Education, Abu Dhabi Executive Council,
Government of Sharjah, Abu Dhabi Police, Dubai Police, Dubai Customs, UAE Civil
Aviation, Du and Etisalat among others.
Financial organisations represented include Emirates Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi
Islamic Bank, Noor Bank, Arab Bank, Bank of Lebanon, Commercial Bank International,
Middle East Payment Systems and PWC. Regional utilities present include Dubai
Electricity & Water Authority, Dubai Municipality and Saudi Electricity.
The inaugural Keynote Address will be delivered by Adel Rashed Al Mehairi, Director
of the UAE aeCERT/Telecommunications Regulatory Authority based in Abu
Dhabi. Among his responsibilities, Adel specializes in Network and System Security
Analysis and implementation.
Another Keynote Speaker will be Michael D Brown, Former Director of FEMA (the
US Federal Emergency Management Agency) who says: The UAE has been a staunch
partner of the US in the struggle against ISIL terrorism in Iraq and Syria. But a more
insidious threat to the entire Arab Gulf is cyber-attack. It makes just as much impact on
society as the bomber or the assassin.
Joining these distinguished experts will be more than 20 influential international and
regional cyber-specialists, providing robust analysis of regional threat perceptions, risks
and solutions. Above all, they will discuss how best to ensure secure GCC government
and business continuity in the face of ever-increasing levels of hacking and criminal
espionage.

Meanwhile, cyber protection investment is rising throughout the region.

Recent estimates from Security Middle East assess Middle East Cyber Security
expenditure at $25 billion over the next 10 years; at a time when (as Ciscos latest
Middle East ICT security study states) 65 percent of employees do not even understand
the security risk of using personal devices in the workplace!
Major research houses Kaspersky, Gartner, Booz and others highlight increasing
attempts by hackers on GCC government and institutional sites as these criminals seek
to steal vital security information, large-scale funds and commercial secrets. Recent
attacks on Ashley Madison, Sony Pictures and others are only the tip of the iceberg.
The GCC CYBER-SECURITY SUMMIT is organised by TMC Conferences of Dubai
creators of the recent highly successful GCC Big Data Summit, held in Dubai during
March 2015.
