CHAPTER I

The Problem and its Background

Introduction
Improper management practices predispose beef cattle to disease.
Herd health management program include the management practices
recommended to prevent disease. Herd health program for beef cattle
herds will accomplish the following:

Determine the etiology (cause) of disease and poor performance.

Define methods of minimizing or eliminating health risk factors
Identify all risk factors predisposing a cattle herd to disease and

loss including death

Eradicate specific disease if research results prove it is feasible and

economically beneficial.
Research the production goals establish for the herd.

Health

of

beef

cattle

involves

planning

and

management practices that considered the nutrition, diseases and health

management cost must be less than the economic resulting from the
program.
Statement of the problem:
This study aimed to answer the following questions:

1. How to overcome the challenges in every disease that spreading on

the beef cattle?
2. In taking the right vaccination in the beef to whom should it be
consult?
Hypothesis:
The study will hypothesis that there is no disease if they beef cattle
has a good vaccination and there is no contaminated feed additives.
Importance of the Study

Disease can be prevented by proper management, vaccination,

eradication and /or with a test.

Disease can be prevented by used of feed additives by improving

nutrition or through management practices.

Disease cause by management errors.

outcomes

Etiology* - the investigation or attribution of the cause or reason for

something, often expressed in terms of historical or mythical
explanation.
Herd* - a large group of animals, especially hoofed mammals that live,
feed or migrate together or are kept together as livestocks.
Predisposing* - make someone liable or inclined to a specified attitude
action or condition.
Antibiotics* - a drug used to treat bacterial infection.
Disease* - a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal or
plant especially one that produce specific signs and symptoms or
that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct results of
physical injury.
Vaccine* - a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies
and provide immunity against one or several diseases.
*-------------- operationally.
Scope and delimitation

This research/ study is limited on the health problems of beef

cattle on how problems can be surpass. This study is conducted here in
Panganiban, Catanduanes.

Review of Related Literature and Studies
Leonard Person (1908) was first described the occurrence of
Johnes disease in a proper a note on the chronic bacterial dysentery of
cattle in America.
James W. OltjenPh. D and Franck M. Mitbehner Ph.D.(1988) they
release the study of the health practices in the cow-calf segment of the
beef production industry and began a new study of feedlot industry
which has not been released.
Faith et al., 1996; Meng et al ;1995 the strains of E,coli 0157: H7
with indistinguishable pulsed field gel electrophoresis(PFGE) genomic
DNA profile can be isolated from calve in different states or farms.
Jukantoet. al.,(1992) Babesiosis is thought to be in a state of
calamity of endemic in many areas and incidence is rare. This may also
relate to the inherent resistance of Bos indicus breeds. It is thought that
the cattle imported from no-endemic areas would be at risk.

Materials and Methods
Materials:
Pen

Medicine

Notebook

Injection

Survey form
Methods:
This research will be using open ended type of questionnaire. The
target of this are the proper housing and management of animals
facilities that are essential to animal well-being, to the quality of research
data and teaching or testing programs in which animals are used, and to
the health and safety of personnel. A good management program provide
the environment, housing and care that permits animals to grow, mature

reproduce and maintain good health provides their well being and
minimizes variation that can affect research.
