After doctors helped Kailee Rutherford beat cancer
when she was in Grade 11, she set her sights on doing
the same for others. Kailee is now pursuing a career
in medicine and using her determination and ambition
to reach her goal.

I had a choice to study at several different


universities but I only seriously considered
the U of M. Living on campus this year has given
me the opportunity to meet new people and
get involved in residence life, which has added
to my university experience.

Justin Shave is turning his love for animals and the
outdoors into a biological sciences degree. Whether its
completing fieldwork in South Africa or spending
an alternative reading week in Ecuador, hes exploring
the world and his career options at the same time.

A lot of my growth at university has come from


getting involved in programs and activities outside
the classroom. My trip to Ecuador this past year
broadened my perspectives on social, economic
and environmental issues. I not only experienced
personal growth, but it gave me insight into the
direction of a future career I would like to explore.

Ive had a love for the game from a young age.


Leaving Brazil to study and play soccer at the
U of M has definitely been an adventure. It has
been challenging to balance my athletics and
my studies, but all worth it. I wouldnt trade
this experience for anything.

Students who apply from high school will begin their studies as an undergraduate student.
Admission to undergraduate programs is divided into two categories: direct entry and
advanced entry.

FACULTIES AND PROGRAMS

DIRECT ENTRY
If youre coming to university directly from high school or
have completed less than one year of university studies,
youll take the direct entry route into a faculty or program.
For most students, this means entering into University 1
(see page 21). You can also apply for direct entry admission
to many of our faculties and programs.

ADVANCED ENTRY
After completing University 1, students can choose to apply
to a variety of different faculties and programs at the
U of M. Each program that accepts students from University 1
(or with the equivalent amount of work completed in

another faculty) has certain criteria that must be met in


order to be considered for admission. These requirements
include academic criteria and non-academic criteria.
Some faculties require at least one year of study before
students can apply for admission while others require
at least two or more years of study. To learn more about
