Ethics Unit: Week 1

Desired Results
Established Goals:
• Students should be able to understand the importance of ethics in the workplace. Students
will also be able to apply their knowledge towards simulated scenarios and make the best,
most ethical decision for the given situation. An overview of the importance of personal
ethics will present information to help students understand practicing ethical behavior in
the work place starts with having their own set of ethical standards.

Enduring Understandings:
Students will understand. . .
• The basic concepts behind ethics and morals
• Being ethical is a character trait we must practice in ourselves
• That being ethical is not always the easiest solution

• What is the ethical solution to the problem?
• How would I feel if I were on the other side?

Assessment Evidence
Performance Tasks:
• Students will participate in class discussions consisting of mock scenarios and discussing
with classmates what the ideal ethical decision would be in a given situation
• Students will complete a worksheet demonstrating their understanding

Other Evidence:
• Students will take 2 ethics quizzes, each highlighting different scenarios and possible
outcomes, as well as being able to correctly define vocabulary words.
• Students will be encouraged to write in their weekly reflections about ethical dilemmas
they have encountered while at the job place.

W= We will be having two units of ethics; both of which will cover the basis of ethics in the
workplace. They will be working in groups to simulate situations where ethics are required, as
well as take two 50 point quizzes to demonstrate their learning and turn in two worksheets. They
will be informed that they will be applying these lessons in their real work environments.
Group work: Approx. 100 minutes (2 class periods)
Worksheets: Homework (30 minutes each)
Quizzes: 50 minutes each (100 minutes total)

H = We will be partaking in “mock scenarios” where the students can take the role of various
individuals and base decisions off of lecture? (50 minutes)

E = Students will complete two homework assignments as well as write journal entries based on
the topic (On own time, approximately 30 minutes for each assignment)

R = We will be holding class discussion to discuss the homework assignments and clarify any
confusion (30 minutes)

E = Students will work in groups to compare answers for homework and class discussions (50
minutes)

T = We will be using various tools for learning: work sheets, movies, hands on experience

O = After completing mock scenarios, turning in homework and journal reflections, viewing a
video and holding class discussion, we will close Unit 1 with a 50 point quiz.
