Speaker Application for IMC USA Confab 2010

The Confab Committee for 2010 is seeking speakers who are interested in
presenting their thoughts, ideas, and skills to the attendees of our
conference “for management consultants by management consultants”.

Confab 2010 begins on Saturday, October 23 and ends Monday October 25.
The venue is the Silver Legacy Casino and Hotel in Reno, Nevada.

This year’s theme is “Build Your Business”. Presentations should focus on the
“how to” of laying foundations for growth, growing consulting practices,
diversifying products and services offered, forming consulting alliances, and
similar topics. Presentations are expected to allow attendees to take away
something concrete that allows them to complete one or two steps in
growing their consulting practice, increasing their value to their clients, or
making them more successful.

The audience is a mix of experienced consultants and individuals who are

just entering the profession. We typically present topics that appeal to those
attendees who are launching a practice, refining their consulting skills, or
expanding their practice. We are seeking speakers who can connect with
these audiences and move them forward with their consulting skills and the
management of their consulting practices.

Speakers receive the following benefits:

• Listing in the Confab Conference materials that will be widely distributed to
numerous professional organizations.
• A press release template you may send out to your local or regional press.
• Listing on the Confab web-site, including a link to your own Web-site.
• Listing in Confab Conference Directory of Attendees & Speakers.
• Access to promotional materials (post cards, email templates and other
materials) for distribution to your professional network. Please note that
anyone from your network who registers to attend Confab can do so at a
member rate.
• Encouragement to participate in exchanges on the IMC USA Confab blog. This
provides speakers with further exposure and allows you to connect with
potential attendees before Confab starts, during Confab and after Confab
ends.
• Access to a Speaker’s and Committee lounge area with room to meet, work,
have coffee and snacks, etc. during the conference.
• An excellent opportunity to share your knowledge and experiences with peers.
• The possibility exists to convert Confab presentations to IMC USA Academy
offerings that are offered to IMC USA members and consultants via webinars
and similar venues. The creators and deliverers of any presentations that are
included in Academy offerings are compensated for their work as long as they
are offered by the Academy.
• We encourage all speakers to contact clients and colleagues and inform them
that you are speaking at Confab and invite them to attend. All of your

Page 1
colleagues and clients who attend may do so at the IMC USA member rate.
We will provide you with a special code for them to register.
• Ability to sell or promote your materials and books (at Confab outside of your
session).
• A summary of feedback provided by session attendees.
• Nonstop networking opportunities with 200 or more experienced professional
and successful consultants.
• Each speaker is assigned a host to ensure that their A/V and other venue
needs are met. The host will introduce the speaker at their session and assist
the speaker as needed during the session.

After we receive speaker applications, the Confab Committee and other IMC
USA members interview the references provided by each speaker. This group
of people may also spend more time with each potential speaker discussing
the presentation topic, answering speaker questions, and other matters as
appropriate associated with Confab, the venue, etc. Based on the input
gathered by this group of people a final set of speakers is selected and
invited to participate in Confab.

General Guidance for Speakers
Accepted Confab Speakers, Presenters, and Panelists will be asked to
agree to:
• Be responsive to Confab Program Committee and conference
organizers and meet all deadlines.
• Provide for your own registration, travel and lodging expenses.
Registration for all speakers will be offered at a member rate
discounted by $100. A special registration code will be provided
to speakers once they have been accepted and scheduled.
• Agree to edits and/or revision requests to ensure alignment of
submitted presentation materials with your submitted learning
objective and practice stage, and style guidelines.
• Provide a professional quality photograph for use in conference
promotion.
• Deliver the presentation materials and handouts submitted per
the deadlines shown on page 2 above. The Confab committee
normally limits handouts to no more than 8 or 9 pages. The
committee makes copies for distribution to session attendees.
Soft copies of presentations are normally made available to
attendees about two weeks prior to Confab to help in session
selection, download and print for note taking, etc.
• Please submit by the deadline shown above soft copies of your
presentation preferably in a Power Point file. We will use the
Page Set Up to produce a black and white three up printout with
room for notes for use by conference attendees. We will also
convert this file to a pdf file for more universal readability and to
prevent any alteration of the file. Please note that attendees
usually download presentation copies and either print them out
for note taking or copy them to their laptops prior to attending
sessions.
• Electronically sign the Terms of Engagement agreement.
• Attend a great conference, meet and learn from hundreds of
professionals, and have a fabulous time.

Please note that Confab does not normally compensate speakers, but will
consider compensation for preconference workshops and keynote
presentation. This means that speakers must register for the conference if
they plan to stay for the duration, and attend functions and sessions.

Terms of Engagement
Confab requires each speaker and workshop presenter to adhere to the
following Terms of Engagement prior to and during the Confab conference.
I will:
 Work closely with Confab conference organizers and meet all deadlines.
 Work cooperatively to refine my presentation to ensure clarity and to
align with the conference theme and presentation requirements.
 Coordinate and receive Confab approval for changes in content, format,
audio/visual needs, room set-up, identity or number of presenters.
 Design and provide high-quality materials in MS Word (Handouts, forms,
tables, etc.) and PowerPoint (Presentation) format. As a matter of form,
please be sensitive to color combinations that interfere with readability,
extremely busy and unreadable slides, too small text, and other issues
that make it difficult for attendees to understand your presentation. A set
of presentation guidelines is available on the Confab web site for your use
at this link .
 Honor the Confab Conference intent and recognize that my presentation is
an opportunity to share information and not a showcase for promotion of
my business, practice, services or products.
 Refrain from selling my products or services in my presentation.
 Respect IMC USA as the sponsoring organization with either positive or
neutral comments, either written or oral, before and during the
Conference.
 Unless expressly forbidden, allow Confab to reproduce submitted
materials on the Confab website for distribution or promotion by Confab.
By inserting my name below, I, declare that I have read and agree to the
Confab Terms of Engagement.
