Building Platteville Unveils New Rose Arbor at

Katies Garden Funded by $2,000 AT&T Donation
AT&T Funding Supports New Permanent, Maintenance-Free Rose Arbor
and New Hillside of Flowers and Plants in Katies Garden
PLATTEVILLE, Friday, September 4, 2015 Katies Garden now has a new permanent, maintenancefree rose arbor and a hillside of new flowers and plants, thanks to the support of local volunteers and a
$2,000 AT&T Innovation Award. Platteville chamber and community members gathered today to celebrate
and unveil the new rose arbor.
Katies Garden wouldnt be one of the most beautiful places on earth without the support of so many
wonderful community volunteers and master gardeners, said Kathy Kopp, Executive Director of the
Platteville Regional Chamber. Thanks to AT&T and our volunteers, Katies Garden now has a new
gorgeous rose arbor and a plethora of new beautiful plants and flowers.
Katies Garden is the anchor to the Platteville Community Arboretum and Rountree Gardens project that
encompasses areas along the Rountree Branch Trail. The garden is full of color all season long and has
benches, tables, picnic areas, and walking paths throughout.
The garden was built as a tribute to Katie Vaassen, a very special volunteer and Platteville Chamber staff
member who passed away in 2004. Katies Garden is owned and maintained by the Platteville Regional
Chamber, community volunteers and members of the Grant County Master Gardeners.
Katies Garden is a true gem that has become a focal point for the Platteville community and a destination
for community members and visitors alike, said State Rep. Travis Tranel. This garden would not be
possible without the countless hours put in by so many talented volunteers and support from local
businesses like AT&T. It is a beautiful tribute to Katie and the entire Vaassen family.
We are proud to support the efforts of the Platteville Chamber and community members to enhance the
beauty and tranquility of Katies Garden, said Scott T. VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. As
a company, AT&T is committed to giving back to organizations that make a difference in the community.
