This book, The State of the American Mind: Stupor and Pathetic Docility
Volume One begins to unravel some of the most obvious, perplexing, embarrassing
and enduring problems and contradictions of American history and sociology, viz., how
could the American revolution that started with the most ringing and most inspiring Declarations of human equality in
world history end up establishing the most vicious, exploitative society the world ever knew Black chattel slavery and
only ten percent white enfranchisement, etc. Further, how could men of such great wisdom and intellect like George
Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and others who were Enlightenment scholars and clearly knew that
slavery was despicable and evil, because they had variously experienced white servitude and slavery themselves,
collude to establish and institutionalize the horrible system of Negro chattel slavery in America; and also disenfranchised
over 90 percent of people of their own race actions that racism could not explain. The structural/institutional slavery
system they established, and the resultant consequent racism hobbles America today as it did in the past, and forced Eric
Holder, the Attorney General to declare that, America is a nation of cowards, when it comes to race discussions. Thus,
this book starts with serious critical discussions of race in America and reveals what no textbook has ever done, viz.,
that most early American whites and Blacks were slaves an uncomfortable fact that would shock most Americans
because it contradicts the orthodoxy or the dominant narrative that only Blacks were brought here in chains. Further,
the book also shows the year Black slavery started something almost, all textbooks got wrong. It also shows who, was
the fi rst Black slave in America something no textbook ever mentions. It also shows when and how racism started in
America and many other very sensitive and embarrassing but necessary issues that America avoids but must be frankly
discussed for America to move forward. This book therefore shatters the two dominant themes of Americas history and
sociology that Blacks were brought into America in chains as slaves while whites came to America in search of freedom,
as Harvard educated President Obama famously told us in his race speech. Thus, the crowning lesson of this book, in
addition to discussing some critical policy issues like education, health care, etc., is that it discovers the centripetal force
of the American society that eluded contemporary Americans because American bosses have laboriously concealed the
facts from the public the scary but clearly healthy uniting fact that most Americans are united by their common
ancestry, their universal history and experience of servitude, bond-indentures and slavery. Nothing is more universal, more
common and more shared in American history and sociology than the fact that most of our ancestors, black and white,
were servants, bond-indentures and slaves who were dominated and super-exploited by few overlords. Colonial America
was the preferred dumping ground for British, outcasts, rejects, criminals, masterless class, vagabonds, bond-indentures,
slaves, etc., until 1776 when Australia replaced America as the British dump for its rejects and surplus citizens. Thus, that
America was a nation founded by British rejects and losers is inherently more rational than the prevailing orthodoxy or the
Obama theory of Americas founders that they were great honorable men who journeyed across the ocean for freedom
because of the obvious reason that good, powerful achieving citizens do not normally emigrate to new uncharted lands.

    While American colonists waged war against the British, some patriots recognized the irony of their struggle for independence amid widespread slavery. To contend for liberty, wrote John Jay, one of the founding fathers, and to deny that blessing to others involves an inconsistency not to be excused.

    Thus the America system was founded on the principle and practice of inexcusable inconsistency as John Jay aptly stated; and this book is part of my efforts to unravel this American inexcusable inconsistency!

    American Framers Are Not Racists: They Are Evil Geniuses

    T he American government is not racist, but it is the most vicious, the most non-caring, and most nonchalant of any government I can think of, especially given its unprecedented capabilities and resources.

    Most people, especially those on the left are quick to term American leaders as racists and America as structurally/institutionally racist. My point is that both statements are not the same. They look similar and sound similar but they are not the same; and it needs critical rigorous analysis to understand the important differences between the two as well as appreciate their significant policy differences.

    American framers and leaders are not necessary personally racists as evidenced by the great humane statements by some of them, but they structured and institutionalized America as a racist system that endures because it is strategically useful for their dominance and continued exploitation of the all Americans – whites, Blacks, Hispanics, etc.

    Racism is therefore the strategy of control. It is the strategic control mechanism that was invented by the framers to help them control the bourgeoning white, Black, Native-American popular unity and cooperation that threatened to undermine their power, control and exploitation of the American masses in colonial America.

    The framers then structured and institutionalized racism in America so that America has been running in what I call, auto-pilot racism ever since, so that it is not really important whether some leaders are or are not racist.

    The important thing is that the system is running on auto-pilot racism. Auto-pilot-racism is important for the American bosses because it helps to keep the American masses divided, balkanized and antagonistic to one another instead of uniting to fight their common enemy, their common exploiter and oppressor.

    Auto-pilot racism, is therefore the control strategy of the American bosses that helps them maintain unlimited, unprecedented and unchallenged dominance of the system, which other leaders, even Stalin, Adolf Hitler, etc, would envy; and the horrible, shameful, unbelievable ordeal of Sgt. Chuck Luther and thousands other patriotic American Veterans who fought for the bosses wars and for the bosses profits in Iraq and Afghanistan and discarded as worthless fodders prove.

    Honestly, it beats my imagination to see a government which professes to love its soldiers treat them with such viciousness and callousness. What do they mean by pre-existing condition? What has that got to do with the injury he suffered while fighting for America? Sgt. Chuck Luther had the so-called pre-existing condition, yet Pentagon recruited him and he fought gallantly for them? The Pentagon argument honestly sounds so inane to be believable. And that President Obama knew of this vicious treatment of our soldiers and Pentagon’s silly argument right from when he was a Senator is beyond me.     MARCO WERMAN: I’m Marco Werman and this is The World, a co-production of the BBC World Service, PRI and WGBH Boston. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have produced a generation of American veterans with physical and psychological ailments. They require, and national leaders insist, they deserve the best care the United States can offer. But that care isn’t always up to that lofty standard. The stories about poor conditions at VA hospitals come to mind. Over the last few years, investigative journalist Joshua Kors has been writing about the care American service men and women receive, particularly as they are discharged. Kors reports for The Nation magazine, which has just published his latest article in a series arguing that soldiers have been deliberately misdiagnosed by military doctors in order to deny them medical care and disability pay. Joshua Kors, this latest story focuses on a veteran, Sergeant Chuck Luther. He was deployed to Iraq and your story makes a series of pretty extraordinary accusations about his treatment by fellow soldiers. What does Sgt. Luther say happened to him?

    JOSHUA KORS: Sure. Well they’re not accusations. This was two years of combing through the medical records kept by his doctor, confirmation from his commander who was there to watch his treatment, and from others who came to visit him while he was in confinement. Sgt. Luther had been wounded by mortar fire while serving in Iraq. Slammed his head against the concrete and ended up with severe traumatic brain injury. The headaches resulting from that blow to the head caused blindness, his vision to shut off in one eye. He said the other eye felt like someone was stabbing him in the eye with a knife. He went to the aid station to get care for that, but they told him that his blindness was caused by a personality disorder. He thought that was ridiculous, how could a problem with his personality cause blindness? But Marco, this is part of a larger story. For the last three years I’ve been reporting on wounded soldiers, pressed into signing these papers saying they have a personality disorder.

    WERMAN: Let me just jump in there a second Joshua, because personality disorder, we should say, is a recognized condition or class of conditions that tends to emerge in childhood. And the military treats PD as a pre-existing condition rather than a result of combat.

    KORS: That’s right. Personality disorder is a real mental illness that emerges in childhood. Of course, this was a soldier in his late 30’s who had passed through eight screenings, served for a dozen years and won 22 medals for his performance. It was only after he was wounded by mortar fire that this pre-existing condition was discovered. I think most Americans know the phrase pre-existing condition now from the health care wars. Pre-existing means you could be locked out of the insurance system. It’s the same in the military. If your wounds can be linked to a pre-existing condition, that means no disability pay for the rest of your life, no long term medical care and, one of the small print conditions of a personality disorder discharge is that these wounded soldiers have to give back a slice of their signing bonus. That means that Sgt. Luther, like tens of thousands of other wounded soldiers coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan, were given a bill on their final day in uniform.

    WERMAN: If we get back to Sgt. Luther’s story now, it doesn’t end with that diagnosis of PD, it’s also the way he says he was pressured to accept the diagnosis, that’s pretty shocking.

    KORS: That’s right. Sgt. Luther was put in a closet and held there for over a month under enforced sleep deprivation with the lights on all night, blasting heavy metal music at him all through the night, but when he tried to escape the closet they pinned him down, injected him with sleeping medication and dragged him back to the closet. Finally, at the end of a month, he was willing to sign anything and he did. He went ahead, signed papers saying that he had a pre-existing personality disorder. They flew him back to Fort Hood, and that’s when they let him know the repercussions of that discharge. No disability pay for the rest of your life, no long term medical care, and here’s a bill for $1,500.00.

    WERMAN: How has the Pentagon reacted to the story? And how does the Army see Sgt. Luther’s case in particular?

    KORS: Well, the Army’s been fine with it. These are not accusations, his doctors documented his treatment in meticulous detail in stacks of papers. I interviewed a fellow soldier who came to visit him while he was there in confinement in the closet. I talked to his commander who described for me why they treated him as they did. They even allowed Sgt. Luther to keep his backpack, which had his digital camera. He took photos of the closet that he was stuck in for that month.

    WERMAN: Your investigation shows that Sgt. Luther isn’t the only one in this situation. You found at least 24 cases like his from Army bases around the country. If so many have gone through the same routine, why has there been no action or reaction from the military on this?

    KORS: It’s a much larger problem than just 24. Since 2001, 22,600 soldiers have been booted out of the military with personality disorder. Taking those wounded soldiers and sliding them out the side door with that mental illness is saving the military 12.5 billion dollars in disability and medical care. And that is why, then Senator Barack Obama was so up in arms about this issue. Along with Republican Senator Kid Bond, he put forward a bill to halt personality disorder discharges. That made him both a hero and a disappointment to so many veterans. A hero because he was addressing this critical issue; a disappointment because during his Presidential run, and now from the White House, he hasn’t spoken at all about personality disorder. The result was that the issue sort of withered on the vine. A lot of people on Capital Hill didn’t understand what was happening and were afraid that blocking these discharges would open a flood gates to benefits for wounded soldiers. And so what they did is they watered down the bill, put it into an amendment, which was part of a spending bill signed by President Bush. The amendment required the Pentagon to study personality disorder discharges and five months later, when that report landed on Obama’s desk, the Pentagon concluded that not a single soldier had been wrongly diagnosed and not a single soldier had been wrongly discharged.

    WERMAN: Joshua, where is, and how is Sgt. Chuck Luther right now?

    KORS: Luther’s has an amazing recovery. He’s gone from being a medal winning soldier, to essentially a captive, and now, today, after all his wounds, he’s one of the nation’s leading veteran’s advocates. He started an organization called Wounded Warriors, which is out there helping other soldiers like him, who have been wounded in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, then denied benefits.

    WERMAN: Joshua, thanks very much, good to speak with you.

    KORS: Thank you.

Her sudden shameless rejection for the job due to furious pressures from the right infuriated many Blacks and progressives, and was one early indicator that Bill Clinton’s presidency would be boneless when it came to defending Black and progressive causes, as actually happened. Professor Barack Obama skillfully avoided contacts/identification with her, and would not even discuss her shameful sudden rejection by Bill Clinton because he thought that she was corrosive and would hurt his presidential chances just as he shamelessly denounced, denied and avoided his mentor, Rev Dr. Jerry Wright on his way to the White House. To deny and denounce Dr. Jerry Wright, whose statements were clearly correct but hurtful to the white bosses, was and would stand as one of the most despicable, betrayal and sorry acts of presidential candidate Barack Obama, even as the bosses’ media lauded and hailed the Obama speech. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama’s shameless denunciations of his mentor, Rev. Wright was almost as despicable as Judas’s betrayal of Jesus Christ for thirty pieces of gold, notwithstanding the lavish praise of the mostly imbecile US media, which Rep. Patrick Kennedy and many others also rave against. The truth is that Obama showed the bosses early enough that he is for them and would protect their interests, if chosen, which was why they chose him; and so far, President Obama has worked hard for the bosses to the continuing disappointment and surprise of the masses. President is actually great for the bosses because he has the rare qualities, attributes, talents, rhetoric, as Sen. Reid said, to keep the masses hopeful and in check while he ardently and faithfully works for the bosses. The present healthcare insurance is a typical example of President Obama working furiously for the bosses while keeping up the rhetoric and giving the illusion that he works for the masses. The new insurance reform is a huge, massive give-away to the insurance companies without covering all Americans as Americans demand, and as in other industrial countries.

The first time I discussed this picture as a free speech topic in class, I distributed the picture to the students and asked for their comments including to guess what was going on. He has since then built and nurtured a complex web of dubious relationships that includes working for CIA created African-American Institute (AAI) and for Donald B. Easum, the former US Ambassador to Nigeria who suggested degrading Nigeria’s economy and on whose watch Murtala was assassinated and Obasanjo replaced him. Obasanjo is actually now the most dangerous, dubious man in Africa. He is now, not just a CIA agent in Nigeria who promotes American and CIA interests in Nigeria but institutionalized CIA center himself with structures, facilities and massive funding to recruit and train CIA recruits from and for other African countries. Obasanjo is now the CIA Center in Africa, which makes him the most dangerous man in Africa. (Please, read Appendix O of this book for more details.)

    Photo 35.13: Dr. Abyssinia Akwaeke Nwafor Orizu, the first Nigerian acting President. On the attainment of independence on October 1, 1960, Nwafor Orizu became the first President of the Nigerian Senate. This placed him in line to assume the Acting Presidency of Nigeria when Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe traveled out of the country in January 1966 for medical treatment. That same month, a group of Nigerian army officers, under Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu, struck. It was the first coup d’etat by the Nigerian military; tragically, the first of many. In the confusion that followed, Nwafor Orizu, as Acting President, was obliged to hand over power to General Aguiyi Ironsi, Officer commanding the Nigerian Army. Dr. Orizu was my high school principal when I graduated from Horizontal High School, Nnewi, in December 1964. Dr. Orizu who was proprietor and principal of the high school of the school, continued as its principal even while he was president of Nigerian Senate. By 1966, I was in Lagos working with Central Bank of Nigeria, Tinubu, Lagos—a very prestigious job I got because it was when Nigeria was good and jobs were given on merit, and I had grade one, the highest ranking in pass, in national high school graduation examination, then conducted by WAEC. So I was in Lagos when the President, Dr. Azikiwe left for extended medical cruise off Haitian waters and was there when the coup took place; and Dr. Orizu, the Acting President voluntarily handed power to Major-General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi and then went back to Nnewi on retirement. I personally met Dr. Orizu again in 1981 when I went to Nnewi for him to help me convince the federal government of President Shehu Shagari and Vice-President Alex Ekwueme to bring Emeka Ojukwu back from exile, which he very gladly did.

Biafran armed forces achieved initial spectacular military successes against the attacking and invading Nigerian army. Biafran forces overran former Mid-Western State of Nigeria in August 1967 and Ojukwu appointed Dr. Albert Nwazu Okonkwo as Military Administrator of the new region, and later Governor when it declared itself, The Republic of Benin, after its capital, Benin City. Republic of Benin, was perhaps, the shortest-lived republics in the history of republics. It lasted for barely one day from September 19, 1967 to September 20, 1967 before the Nigerian federal sacked Biafran forces from the region. Ojukwu left Biafra and flew into exile on January 8, 1970 as the federal government forces closed in on the last stronghold of Biafra. Biafran resistance ended on January 15, 1970 when General Philip Effiong, Ojukwu’s successor ordered Biafran forces to lay down their forces and stop fighting. Ojukwu stayed in exile in Cote D’Ivoire until 1982 when Dr. Orizu helped me to convince the Federal Government of President Shehu Shagari and Vice-President Alex Ekwueme to allow him to come back to Nigeria. Ojukwu is today a leading politician in Nigeria and Igboland. Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, who won reelection in the vigorously contested February, 2010 election in Anambra State is a member of Ojukwu’s political party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) confirming that Ojukwu still has considerable political clout in Igboland and the country.

    Photo 41.8: The Nine Supreme Court Justices. Supreme Court Justices are life-time appointments. They are nominated by the president and approved by the Senate. It is usually one of the most important nominations presidents make. Conservative, Republican presidents always nominate candidates of clear ideological unity with them, like President W. Bush nominated John Roberts as the Chief Justice and Samuel Alito as the Associate Justice, who go into the court to carry on their conservative agenda. They call themselves constructionists justices, that is, those Justices who would rule according to the letters of the Constitution and the thoughts and intentions of the framers, which we now know was horrible, repugnant and repulsive to most Americans today. For example, how many Americans today would advocate that American citizenship is only for whites? Yet that was what the Immigration Act of 1790, America’s first Immigration Law by the founding fathers legislated in 1790. Democratic presidents, on the other hand are wooly and wish-washy with little ideological bent. For example, President Obama nomination of Elena Kegan, a lawyer who believes in executive supremacy and has little regards to for affirmative action, to replace Justice Stevens, a justice of clear liberal views and records. Therefore, the liberal President Obama’s Supreme Court will end up re-enforcing and consolidating the conservative court of Chief Justice John Roberts that was put in-place by the ultra-conservative President W. Bush.

    The Uniqueness of These Books

    T hese books begin to unravel some of the most obvious, perplexing, embarrassing and enduring problems and contradictions of American history and sociology. These are some of the problems that have bothered me ever since I came to America from Nigeria and began to experience real America at Purdue University which turned out to be distinct and different from the mythical America that I and my generation of Nigerians were fed in Nigeria; and which still largely prevails—an utopian, sanitized version of America that is still largely taught and spread in the United States and around the world.

    This sanitized version continues to wreck damages on America’s history and sociology, America’s public policies, America’s educational system and children everywhere—in America as well as in the third world.

    When we do the the stages of scientific research in class, I stress to my students that the first and most important condition that must exist before anyone can undertake any serious scientific research is the existence of problem. I call it problem identification and clarification without which no research problem will ever be possible—will ever be undertaken or successfully completed—in physical as well as in social sciences.

    For example, Adam Smith was able to put out his magnum opus, An Inquiry in the Cause and Nature of the Wealth of Nations (commonly known as the Wealth of Nations) because, as a professor of public policy, he was worried that Britain was following the wrong public policy of mercantilism because they did not really know what wealth of nations meant. His book was therefore set out to explain what wealth of nations meant and how it could be maximized. Adam Smith’s fundamentally new and revolutionary analysis and prescriptions were opposed by many who had vested material interests in the mercantilist prevailing orthodoxy of the epoch.

    Adam Smith’s laissez-faire system of free enterprise was however eventually accepted and has remained the dominant orthodoxy of the Western world of which America is today the leader.

    The point is that if one wants to understand the American society today, if one wants to participate in the American democracy as an intelligent citizen, and not just as a follow-the-leader, follower-zombie type, which our leaders want us to be, if one wants to understand the various convoluted and often confusing debates and arguments in the system, the Tea Party movement or fad, etc. one must read and understand Adam Smith’s original text because the book is the main organizing principle of the current American dominant narrative even though it was largely rejected, and even ridiculed when it was published in 1776.

    Unfortunately, most of my students have never even heard the name, Adam Smith which further affirms that our public schools or specifically that social studies in public schools are not doing a good job—that teachers are either not doing what they should be doing and/or that students are not paying attention or both. When I teach Adam Smith in class, it amazes me that often only one or two hands or even none go up when I write the name on the board and ask for a show of hands from those who have heard the name before.

    I believe that it is a major omission, deficiency and indictment of the educational system for students to get to my class at the college without having heard of Adam Smith at all because social studies in public schools should have acquainted them with the name somewhere along the path because Adam Smith’s theory, analysis and prescriptions form the raison d’être of modern America.

    Furthermore, I am disappointed that even our standard sociology textbook, Giddens’ Introduction to Sociology scarcely talked about Adam Smith at all. Apparently Professor Anthony Giddens and his eminent co-authors do not think that Adam Smith is important enough to understanding America’s sociology to include in their popular textbook, which I strongly disagree.

    Also Karl Marx’s magnum opus, The Capital: Critique of Political Economy, Volumes 1,2 & 3 were written as a critique to Adam Smith’s book and political economy; and both books continue to have major effects in the world and in our societies today—in our history, sociology, political economy, public policy, etc today—whether we know it, accept it or not. The examples of Adam Smith and Karl Marx are to show that major academic projects are undertaken to solve important social problems.

    Thus my books were written to help solve a very serious problem in America—problem of fundamental sanitization and concealment of major historical and sociological facts about America—major facts that have confused, contused and distorted America’s history, sociology and public policy in many negative ways.

    I cannot claim that my books The State of the American Mind: Stupor and Pathetic Docility will have similar impacts like the classics (Wealth of Nation and The Capital) I named above including the many others that have also significantly shaped our societies today but I know that the problems unearthed in the research—the fact that majority of early Americans (white and Blacks) were slaves and/or bond-indentures—will and should significantly impact America’s history, sociology, political and public policy.

    After these books, the conventional orthodoxy, the prevailing narrative that fills our textbooks today and thoughtlessly recanted by our teachers and professors in public schools and colleges/universities, without reflection, that Blacks are the only group that came to America against their will and in chains will and must be discarded because my books have conclusively and irrefutably shown that majority of whites were also brought here against their will in chains. Majority of early American whites were stolen, bought, deceived, and forced to the New World through various processes that are detailed and documented in my books. It would therefore constitute inexcusable deliberate lies for teachers in public schools and professors in colleges and universities to continue to teach the conventional orthodoxy to our students.

    Thus, as these books are coming out now, we have begun to apply to the New York public school system, to public schools across the country; and to history, humanities, sociology and social science professors and Academic Affairs Committees of colleges and universities in United States and other countries to read the books and adopt them accordingly. And, because United States is the global essential country, according to Madeleine Albright, the first US woman Secretary of State, we are also pursuing foreign language—Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese—translations of the books to ensure wider global availability, usage and understanding of the findings of the books.

    I have also donated copies of the books to libraries for wider availability, but my students and others might help to disperse the very important messages of the books by asking their local libraries which do not yet have the books to buy them from Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and many other places. My mission and passion now is to disperse the results of research as contained in the books as widely and as globally as possible because I believe that the information will engender and stimulate national discuss about race, change our understanding of American history and sociology; and fundamentally change public policy both in the United States and globally.

    The facts are there in my books, the sources are irrefutable and verifiable and I implore all and any experts to disprove my theory and findings. The only thing left is for academicians to move to incorporate these exciting findings into their teachings and research and for publishers to stop publishing the current trash with which they flood the system and pollute and our children and society. Specifically, I do hope and urge my colleagues in humanities and social sciences—in history, sociology, psychology, political economy, public policy, political science, anthropology, archeology, etc to incorporate these exciting findings in their teaching and research.

    The important thing though is that the books are now out, the genie is out of the bottle, the facts, which have been hidden and concealed from us by the bosses because they do not want us to know them—that the majority of early American whites were also slaves and bond-indentures who were kidnapped and brought to America through service, servant trade and spirits, and sold at auctions like Africans—are now out and cannot be put back into the bottle. The bosses have no choice but to acknowledge and embrace the facts and use them to better America otherwise they will soon begin to look ridiculous like the medieval renaissance resisters in the earth is round/earth is flat controversy.

    Most tragically, the same whitewash version of America—the propaganda version—that was used to lure my generation of Nigerians and many others around the world to America is also fed to Americans inside America through various institutions that I call The Organized Institutional Disinformation System (TOIDS) which includes all the relevant institutions, foundations and professions in the country—schools, professors, teachers, publishers, media, pundits, etc.

    Thus, for me, the basic enduring and perplexing problem of American history and sociology was how could the American revolution which started with the most ringing and most inspiring declarations of human equality in world history ended up establishing the most vicious, exploitative society the world ever knew—Black chattel slavery with only about ten percent white enfranchisement, etc.—facts that racism alone could not even explain.

    The American Declaration of Independence was clearly classic for its time and for generations yet unborn because it was the strongest and clearest affirmative assertion of egalitarian desires of humanity in man’s historical struggles for justice, peace, equality, happiness, etc. The American Founders had proudly proclaimed these eternal ringing words to the world:

    We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, and that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it..¹

    Above are some of the great, elegant and most inspiring words that America’s founders proudly and boldly and without mincing words, proclaimed to the world as they embarked on American revolutionary struggles against the British monarchy in 1776; and no body, no government has written a better, more inspiring or more quoted one since then. Thus Cato Institute, in 1998 wrote:

    Indeed, for more than two centuries the ringing phrases of the Declaration have inspired countless millions around the world.

    Therefore, the American Declaration of Independence of 1776 remains the unassailable piece and treatise of innate human aspirations, desire and quest for peace, dignity, equality and pursuit for happiness.

    And therein lies the major inexplicable perennial problem and contradictions of America—how could men of such great wisdom and intellect like George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and others who were Enlightenment scholars and clearly knew that slavery was despicable and evil collude to establish and institutionalize the horrible system of Black chattel slavery in America.

    Thus, because of the inexplicable contradictions between the noble Declarations of the founders and the real America they established, Americans committed to eulogizing the founders have found it difficult to explain what happened and why the wide gap between their Declarations and the reality. And, unable to successfully explain these contradictions, American orthodoxy has resorted to playing the Ostrich, i.e. concealment, with America’s children and the public by exorcizing the facts from textbooks and/or pretending that the contradictions do not exist—I think that academicians should stop being part of the concealment conspiracy.

    Unlike most books, my books start with open and clear admission that the contradictions exist, and that they are inherently troubling; and therefore seek open serious investigation of reasons for the wide contradictions.

    For example, one of the leading textbooks that are used in sociology in American colleges/universities, Introduction to Sociology by Anthony Giddens, Mitchell Duneier, Richard P. Appelbaum and Deborah Carr does not say anything about white slavery, service trade, servant trade or spirits in colonial America. According to the book:

    Before the American Revolution, the British, French and Dutch settlers established colonies in what is now the United States. Millions of slaves were brought over from Africa. Huge waves of European, Russian, Asian, and Latin American immigrants have entered the country since then.³ (Emphasis mine)

    Hence, the Giddens’ textbook is also regrettably seriously flawed like social studies textbooks in public schools and most other standard social science American textbooks in colleges and universities by assuming, declaring and treating Africans as the only slaves and people who were brought to America against their will in chains, which was absolutely false because many Europeans—Irish, English, Scottish, Wales, Poles, Russians, French, Dutch, etc were also kidnapped, forcefully
