Dear mother brothers and sisters I Take my pen in hand to
informs you of our Helth at this time Our heitn *t. *.**_ -
time is Tolerable good only sum of us has the chils and
feavors but hoping that theas few lines will find you all
well I can informe you that we have mad a good crop this
year we have mad corn a nof for all if you will come and
git it but it is very disbar ten for you to hear from us all
we have had a powerful 1 Time of Sickness last summer and
this fall and we have had 4 deths in our family since we
have bin hear 1 will name Them That has died the first was
A C Farmer the 2nd was lucy hale Farmer the 3rd was Ancha
filijia which was the son of A C Farmer and Sarah Farmer it
was bornd the 15th of July and died the 13th of November
and the 4th was Elijah Farmer he died with his oat
complaint that he had before we left he had become helpless
before he died before he died he craive to dy and be out
of his misery he appeard to be perfectly satisfyd to day he
felt asurd that he was going to rest and that is a happy
thing you no and now I will Tel you of lucys deth She died
the 12th of October she died with apain in her head it was
the moast of the misery that she complaind of when died
also she toad me not to send after a doctor for she was
agoing to die but I sent for one and his name was Bean but
he could not cur her but she left this troublesom world
with the hoap of heaven in her view and that is a happy
life to die you now and now I will tel you how A C Farmer
was sick he was taken sick with chills and feavors and had
about 4 or 5 but had got better when his sun was bornd and
he has his wife in the bed the saime night that he died and •
was very prowd of his boy and the had all laid down for a
good sleap and Sarah awoke and heard him agroaning and she
cawld him and he answered her low but she thaut that he was
in a doas of sleep and she did not cawl him any more but
droped into a doas of sleep and she awoke the 2 time and he
was agroaning worse than eaver and she cawld him again and
he did not answer any more but she got up and went to his
bed and he was dying and no person was there but his wife
Sarah and she holored so that the heard her to a neighbors
hous and the came running but he was ded when the got there
1 thinke he had a fit like his father had he was at my hous
abut 2 weeks before he died and was then harty and well but
he was taken soon after he went hoam with the chills and
feavors and sent for me but my Family was so Sick that I
could not go to see him and never got to see him any more
and the next news after he sent for me was he was ded and
that distressed me very much but since I have lost 2 more

hous Preston and his family is Tolorable at this time but


there Boy Joseph is very low he has bin sicke along time
but I am in hoaps that we air all giting better now hew
Woody and his family is all well and looks very well at
this time he lives about 3 miles off and Preston lives
about 1 1/2 from me and Wm Woody lives about 2 miles off
and Golohar lives about 12 miles from me and he is doing
very well he is living with a Mr Balding and hew is living
with a Mr Ward and Preston is living with a Mr Wilson,
Allen and Wm Woody is living with a Mrs Williamson a widow
woman we all have good hoams and find ^ood friends in our
trials and troubles the people hear in this cuntary is very
kind and good I can say that this cuntary is a beautiful
one and a productive one but we have had mighy bad luck
here but corns crops is vory good hear this year and cotton
crops is good here and ever thing grows well hear and I
think th*t this is a good poor mans cuntary tho can git
land here cheap the can git good land here as you ever saw
in your life for 50 cents per acre and corn is worth 25
cents por bushel and wheat is worth from 75 cents to $100
per bushel and cotten is worth 7 and 8 dollars per
I did not put in but one quarter of an achor and I thinke
that I raised about 500 off of that ground so will now
bring my letter to a cloas by naming my children that is
living with me now Joseph B Farmer sends his love to you
