PRE - ACTIVITY

Procedures:

(1) Explain what a "Lost and Found Department" is.


(2) Tell students Mrs. Kent was shopping at a large department
store when she discovered her umbrella was missing.
(3) Read the conversation once and then have students answer the
questions on their sheet.
(4) Correct and read conversation again.

TEXT: Listening Comprehension.


Mrs. Kent is shopping but now she can't find her umbrella. She goes to
the Lost and Found Department at the store.
Mrs. Kent: Excuse me. I can't find my umbrella. Is it here?
L & F: Is this your umbrella?
Mrs. Kent: No, it isn't. My umbrella is red.
L & F: Well, is this your umbrella?

Mrs. Kent: No, it isn't. My umbrella is big. That umbrella


is very small.
L & F: I'm sorry. Your umbrella isn't here. Excuse me. Is
that your umbrella there in your bag?
Mrs. Kent: Oh, it is. My umbrella is in my bag. It isn't lost.
I'm very sorry.
L & F: Don't worry about it.

Situation:

The students have lost something but they aren't sure where. They must go to
various Lost and Found Department until they find what they lost.

Procedures:

(1) Each student must give the teacher something of his/hers (i.e. book, pencil,
pen, notebook, etc.)
(2) Divide the class as follows: 1/4 are workers in Lost and Found Departments,
3/4 have lost something.
(3) Scatter the Lost and Found Departments throughout the room and give each
one part of the objects collected at the beginning of the activity.
(4) Students go to the various Lost and Found Departments looking for the lost
items (S: Excuse me. I lost my ______. L&F: Is this your _______? S: Yes
that's my ______./No, that isn't my ______.)
(5) When all students have recovered their items, have some students be in Lost
and Found Department so that the original L&F students can recover their
items.

POST - ACTIVITY

Reading and writing.

Organization:

Individual, whole group

Procedures:

Give each student a copy of the Cloze practice which is based on the Listening
comprehension dialog. Have students fill in the blanks and compare with a
partner. Correct.

Cloze: Writing. Complete the conversation.
