ROLE-PLAY ACTIVITY

Tonight’s “Crossfire” TV programme is going to debate the topic “Teens, TV and the World of Fame”.
Get into groups (your teacher will tell you who you’re going to work with). You’re going to prepare this
debate according to the instructions below, and you will role-play it in front of the class. At the end, the whole class
will have to decide which debate was the best one, according to the following assessment criteria: fluency (10%),
accuracy (15%), range of vocabulary and grammar structures (25%), interaction (25%), knowledge of the topic
(25%). Your teacher will use the same criteria to assess you.

Moderator: It is your job to determine when it is time for each person to speak and also you should ensure that
everybody has the opportunity to express his/her opinions. You should prepare a set of questions to ask your
guests. At the end, you should sum up the points of view expressed and draw some conclusions based on all
that was said.
Parent: You belong to an important TV viewers association and you’ve been asked to give your opinion on
reality TV shows and the way teenagers are being exposed on TV. You are totally against these programmes as
you feel they give a distorted image of reality and of today’s youth. You strongly believe these programmes
should be censored and banned for the sake of values.
Teen: You fervently watch these programmes on a daily basis. You are especially keen on music shows like
Idols. You believe this is what the real world of fame is all about and you adore everything, include the music
and the style.
