Job Description
Provider-Dental Director

Department: Administration
Effective Date: March, 2015
Reports To: CEO
Summary of Duties:

The Dental Director is the chief education and administrative


officer for the Dental Department. Responsible for planning,
administering and directing operation of the Dental Department.

Provide professional patient care as a Licensed Dentist to


individuals from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Must be
compassionate, sensitive and understanding and support the
Centers Ministry to provide quality care to those in need. Must
have the ability to supervise others and work effectively as a team
with other dentists, staff and volunteers.
Supervision Received: Reports to CEO. Works in collaboration with
the Good Samaritan Medical Director who provides oversight for the
entire Center.
Education/Experience:
Graduate of an accredited dental program.
Current licensure to practice Dentistry in the State of Georgia
5-10 years experience in private practice or health center
experience or comparable.

Principal Responsibilities:
Fulfills the Centers mission to spread the love of Christ through
quality healthcare to those in need while providing appropriate
physical, emotional, and spiritual care for the whole person.
Responsible for the overall operation of the Dental Department in
order to assure quality patient care.
Maintain and review of professional performance of all providers
who interact with department and report regularly to Medical
Director and COO.
Leads a departmental committee to conduct the initial phase of
patient care review for Quality Assurance purposes.

Enforcement of the dental staff policies and procedures including


quality assurance and safety testing.
Transmit to the CEO recommendations concerning the staff
classification, reappointment and the delineation of clinical
privileges for all practitioners within the department.
Responsible for teaching education within the department
including staff and volunteers.
Prepare annual reports including budgetary planning, pertaining to
the department as may be required.
Review and submit prior approval forms for Medicaid/Medicare as
needed.
Trains and supervises auxiliary dental personnel.
Instructs patients and community on the importance of
preventative dentistry.
Meets all guidelines for continuing dental education.
Meets all HIPPA guidelines and regulations treating patients
information with privacy and respect.
Leads devotions with other employees on a rotating basis.
Develop and oversee the treatment plans and communicates those
plans to supplemental volunteer dentists for implementation with
patients.

Abilities:
Diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity with the aid of
biopsy and laboratory tests. Develop a comprehensive treatment
plan based upon diagnostic radiographs, clinical examinations and
information gathered from medical and dental history.
Perform professional dental work to include: restorative dentistry,
fixed and removable prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics,
and Pedodontics.
The patient population is primarily adult with increasing numbers
of pediatric patients.
Knowledge:
Current laws and regulations applicable to similar organizations
Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred.

Environmental / Working Conditions: Dental Office setting, wellventilated and well lighted. OSHA Category 3 Involves regular
exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure
to blood, body fluids, or tissues are not a condition of employment.
Physical / Mental Demands:
Requires eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity. Vision must be
corrected to 20 / 20 and hearing must be in normal range. Must be
able to view computer screens for long periods. Occasional stress
related to workload and customers with problems.
Hearing / Speaking: Effective communication with patients, staff
and visitors. Spanish language skills a plus.
Standing: 15% of the workday

Lifting:
10% of the workday up to 30 lbs.
