EXT.

LINDBERGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DAY

An irritated CINDY VORTEX stands on the front steps.
CINDY
Where the heck is he?
LIBBY FOLFAX sits beside Cindy with headphones slung around her
neck.
LIBBY
Chill out, Cindy, hell be here.
care, anyway?

Why do you

CINDY
You know Neutron. If hes not here by now,
then hes planning some elaborate entrance
that ends with an explosion.
LIBBY
You got a point.
SHEEN ESTEVEZ and CARL WHEEZER walk up to the girls.
furious and throws his hands into the air.

Sheen is

SHEEN
Man that spring break was long. I feel like
I havent seen this place in ten years!
LIBBY
It was only a week, Sheen.
Carl looks around nervously.
CARL
Have you guys seen Jimmy?
LIBBY
Not yet.
The warning bell RINGS and several students head inside.
CINDY
Im guessing itll start about now.
CARL
What will start?

Far in the distance, Jimmy flies into view.

JIMMY
(distant)
Ahhhhhhh!
CINDY
That.
Jimmy rockets towards the school.
every direction. He is YELLING.

His jetpack is spiraling in

SHEEN
Five bucks says he lands on the roof!
LIBBY
Got change for a twenty?
Jimmys jetpack finally seems to stabilize, but then he shoots
forward and barrels into Cindy. The duo flies across the
playground. They pass a twonkie and a squirrel, who are perched
side-by-side on a seesaw and watching them. Jimmy and Cindy land
in a heap on the ground.
JIMMY
I can fix that!
Cindy sits up and rubs her temple.
CINDY
Nice invention, Nerdtron!
She extends her hand to Jimmy.
hoisted to his feet.

He clumsily grabs it and is

CINDY
Maybe next time you could land somewhere
thats not me!
On the ground, an airbag belatedly deploys from Jimmys
backpack.
INT. CLASSROOM DAY
MS. FOWL strolls into her classroom.
Trip to Planetarium Today! circled.

The chalkboard has Field

MS. FOWL
Good morning, children! I hope you all
enjoyed last weeks Spring Break.
SHEEN
I cant even remember what happened.
go somewhere?

Did I

In the background, Jimmy glares at Sheen.

MS. FOWL
I just talked to Principal Willoughby and it
seems todays trip to the planetarium is -NICK
Lame.
MS. FOWL
No.
SHEEN
Out of this world?
MS. FOWL
No!
LIBBY
Cancelled?
MS. FOWL
Yes!
(shakes head)
I mean no! Actually, our field trip will
proceed as planned.
Sheen leaps out of his chair.
Yes!

SHEEN
Were finally going to the planetarium!

Sheen runs his fingers down his face in agony.

SHEEN (CONTD)
Ive waited so long!
Cindy glares at Sheen while the class GROANS.

NICK
Planetariums are likeso uncool.
LIBBY
I cant believe Im saying this, but Id
rather stay in class.
MS. FOWL
Children, please! Going to the planetarium
is a Lindbergh Elementary School tradition.
LIBBY
Last years kids didnt go.
MS. FOWL
All traditions have to start somewhere!
PRINCIPAL WILLOUGHBY prances into the classroom.
WILLOUGHBY
(sing-song)
Good morning, children! Oh, I am so excited
for all of you. Just look at those little
faces!
All but Sheen are scowling and depressed.
WILLOUGHBY (C0NTD)
The planetarium is a magical place filled
with wonder and excitement!
JIMMY
I dont think anyone here feels wonder. Or
excitement.
(short beat)
Except Sheen.
Jimmys face lights up as he hatches an idea.
JIMMY (CONTD)
Of course! Why didnt I think of this
before? Ms. Fowl, surely the main goal of
todays outing is to arouse astronomical
interest?
MS. FOWL
Um, yes

JIMMY
Well, I can enlighten the class more than any
planetarium could! In approximately three
hours, an asteroid is expected to strike the
surface of the moon. I can take everyone in
my space car!
REST OF CLASS (O.S.)
Hurray!
JIMMY
And give an enriching lecture!
REST OF CLASS (O.S.)
Boo!
WILLOUGHBY
Now wait just a minute, Mr. Neutron. The
school board doesnt approve of extraplanetary field trips.
MS. FOWL
Wed have to let all your parents know, draft
new permission slips JIMMY
But the school wont have to pay for a bus,
and -WILLOUGHBY
Have fun at the moon!
Principal Willoughby zips out of the room.
MS. FOWL
Jimmy, why dont you go home and get your
space car. Were going to the moon!
The class CHEERS. Sheen glances around the room.
SHEEN
Seriously, can someone tell me what I did
over Spring Break? These moments should be
cherished!
