HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM Deactivation

Foreword
ALWAYS ASSUME THE VEHICLES HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM IS POWERED UP!
BEFORE ACCESSING THE VEHICLE MAKE SURE THAT ANY EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY IS
DISCONNECTED (e.g. electric charger, electric tools). Failure to follow these instructions
may result in serious personal injury or death.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION

Identification using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
The 5th, 6th and 7th digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) identify the C-MAX E=NERGI
vehicle.

Identification using engine compartment characteristics
1. The C-MAX E=NERGI vehicle has a unique engine appearance cover with a raised HYBRID icon
on it.
HIGH-VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL DISCONNECT FEATURES

WARNINGS:
Removing the high-voltage service disconnect will disconnect the high-voltage from the
vehicle. The battery pack will remain live and dangerous. Do not cut the high-voltage
battery case. Do not penetrate the batteries or case in any way. If possible, isolate and
avoid contact with high-voltage vehicle components.
Electric vehicles damaged by a crash may have compromised high voltage safety systems
and present a potential high voltage electrical shock hazard. Exercise caution and wear
appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety gear. Remove all metallic
jewelry, including watches and rings. Failure to follow these instructions may result in
serious personal injury or death.
Ignition is in the OFF Position Any time the ignition is in the OFF position (and the vehicle
is not being charged), the high voltage system is deactivated.
High-Voltage Service Disconnect Whenever the high-voltage service disconnect is removed,
the high-voltage system is disabled.
Deactivation
Method 1
If it is not possible to get access to the battery go to Method 2.
1. Check the high voltage system for power.
2. If the High Voltage system is active, press the ENGINE START STOP button once.
3. Remove the cover to access the 12V battery.
4. Disconnect the 12V battery cable.
Method 2
NOTE: To gain access to the high-voltage service disconnect, the rear 40% seat backrest must be
lowered.
1. Locate the seat backrest release lever at the top of the seatback.
2. Remove the cover to access the upper battery service disconnect.
3. Remove the HIGH-VOLTAGE SERVICE DISCONNECT.

WARNING: Electric vehicles damaged by a crash may have compromised high voltage
safety systems and present a potential high voltage electrical shock hazard. Exercise
caution and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety gear. Remove
all metallic jewelry, including watches and rings. Failure to follow these instructions
Ignition is in the OFF Position Any time the ignition is in the OFF position (and the vehicle
is not being charged), the high voltage system is isolated.
High-Voltage Service Disconnect Whenever either of the high-voltage service disconnects
are removed, the high-voltage system is isolated.
Deactivation
Method 1
2. If the High Voltage system is active, press the push button start once.
Method 2
NOTE: To gain access to the upper battery high-voltage service disconnect, the rear 60% seat backrest
must be lowered.
If it is not possible to lower the rear seat backrest go to Method 3.
3. Depress the release tab at the top of the service disconnect and rotate the release handle
down approximately 45 degrees.
4. Depress the release tab again, and rotate the handle another 45 degrees to the fully released
position. Pull out on the handle to remove the upper service disconnect.
Method 3
NOTE: The lower service disconnect is removed in the same fashion as the upper. To gain access to
the lower battery high-voltage service disconnect, raise the rear of the vehicle using a suitable jack.
1. The lower battery high-voltage service disconnect is located on the right-hand side of the
vehicle near the rear tire.
2. Remove the retainer from the parking brake cable bracket, and position the parking brake
cable and bracket aside. Depress the release tab at the rear of the service disconnect, and
rotate the release handle approximately 45 degrees towards the front of the vehicle.
Depress the release tab again, and rotate the release handle another 45 degrees to the
fully released position. Pull out on the handle to remove the lower service disconnect.

Identification using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
The 10th digit of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) identify the Hybrid vehicle line.

1. The Mondeo Hybrid vehicle has a unique engine appearance cover with a raised HYBRID icon on
it.

WARNINGS:
Removing the high-voltage service disconnect will disconnect the high-voltage from the
vehicle. The battery pack will remain live and dangerous. Do not cut the high-voltage
battery case. Do not penetrate the batteries or case in any way. If possible, isolate and
avoid contact with high-voltage vehicle components.
Electric vehicles damaged by a crash may have compromised high voltage safety systems
and present a potential high voltage electrical shock hazard. Exercise caution and wear
appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety gear. Remove all metallic
jewelry, including watches and rings. Failure to follow these instructions may result in
serious personal injury or death.
Ignition is OFF Any time the ignition is OFF (and the vehicle is not being charged), the high
voltage system is deactivated.
High-Voltage Service Disconnect Whenever the high-voltage service disconnect is removed,
the high-voltage system is disabled.

Method 1
NOTE: It is important to switch OFF the Ignition before removing the 12V Battery connection. With
Ignition ON the HV system could stay active.

2. If the High Voltage system is active, press the ENGINE START STOP button once.
3. Remove the cover to access the 12V battery.
Method 2
NOTE: To gain access to the high-voltage service disconnect, the rear 60% seat backrest must be
lowered.
