In Memory of
Muhammad Usman
(1935-1973)
Directors Message
The year 2015 marks the 21st anniversary of UITs
founding and a proud record of service to the cause of
higher education. Coupled with this success, another
feather in UITs hat is the affiliation with NED University
of Engineering and Technology. Students admitted in Fall
2015 onwards will receive degrees of NED University.
UIT has to rise to the challenge of competition and quality
and it welcomes students who would like to be part of a
community striving for critical thinking, innovation,
problem solving and breaking new grounds.
Why not be a part of UIT?
Dr. Aziz Ali Najam
Director UIT

Section 1
General Information
11
Why UIT?
There are several reasons :
UIT is a place of higher learning. Learning takes place verbally in the
class rooms and by experimentation in the laboratories UIT has excellent
facilities for both. Students are guided and encouraged to self-learning;
also through a variety of resources including library and Internet. The
Institute ensures that education in engineering and technology has
adequate mix of humanities and extra curricular for a wholesome
development of students personality.
The congenial location of the UIT campus is an advantage for most as
it is easily accessible by all modes of transportation from all parts of city.
Furthermore, its students have refrained from involving in activities that
are counter productive to education. Consequently, over the last 21
years of its existence, the UIT campus has remained peaceful and we
are determined to continue with that legacy.
Established in 1994 through a benefaction of Usman Memorial
Foundation, UIT is a not-for-profit Institution. Any surpluses generated
at all, are ploughed back into the development of UIT. Its engineering
programmes are accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council and
computer science programmes are accredited by NCEAC (National
Computing Education Accreditation Council). UIT is equipped with
excellent labs, well stocked library and purpose built class rooms. Our
wi-fi enabled campus encourages students in learning and interaction
both within and outside the classroom.
UIT is proud of its faculty who are well qualified in their relevant fields.
They play a very important role in the life of a student as teachers,
mentors, counselors and advisors. As dedicated teachers, they involve
students in decision making at all levels with respect to academic, extra
and co-curricular activities, help them in their projects and groom them
to pursue their academic journey smoothly.
UIT has graduated over 3000 students to date. Most were absorbed
gainfully into industries, businesses, software houses and a variety of
other enterprises. Many have risen to top positions in their fields.
UIT endeavors to promote critical thinking, innovation, creativity and
vision in its academic and multi-disciplinary pursuits. Collectively, all
endeavors promote development of a professional engineer with a
wholesome personality, a successful and useful member of the human
society, a friend of animals, plants, all other beings and environment.
13
UIT's vision is to emerge as a vibrant and visionary institution of higher learning by serving educational
and holistic needs of individuals, industry, business and society in a dynamic environment.
Mission
Professional and socially responsible development of high relevance technology, holistic competence,
economic thought and diversity of experience in its students who would continue to be self and life-long
learners.
Objectives
In pursuit of this mission, UIT endeavors to train a community of engineers, technologists, computer
scientists, both men and women who
l
promote engineering products, software exports, attract investments, technology transfers, and help
in eradication of current large scale unemployment
while pursuing advent of technology, do not lose focus on human values and supremacy of humanity
over machines
Core values
Faith, moral uprightness, professional competence, love of humanity and nature, pursuit of excellence,
innovation and creativity and life-long learning are values to be adopted, practiced and preached. The
physical facilities, environment and ambience of UIT are reflections of its vision, mission and core values.
Similarly, the conduct and behaviour of its faculty, students and staff are expected to embody those core
values and manifest those in their profiles.
14
Governance of
Usman Memorial Foundation (UMF)
UIT follows all policies regulating the academic activites, studies and quality in the light of
approval and guidance of its statuary bodies.
For management policies and guidance on financial matters, the following Board of
Directors of Usman Memorial Foundation provides governance:
15
Faculty
Faculty plays special roles in the life of an educational institution as teachers, mentors, scholars, and participants
in academic governance. They are its real strength and support. UIT is proud to have a well-qualified faculty..
16
The Campus
UIT campus is congenially located at Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. It has, in its
neighborhood, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,
University of Karachi, National Institute of Performing Arts, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology,
National Institute of Management, Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering, Institute of Cost and Management
Accountants of Pakistan and Sindh Board of Technical Education.
UIT campus is environmental friendly and its facilities are appropriate to the needs of a Centre of Excellence in
the field of engineering science and technology.
Its infrastructure provides:
Purpose built class rooms
Well stocked library, which is equipped with internet facility
Wi-fi enabled campus
Well equipped labs
Relaxing cafeteria
Fully equipped auditorium
The campus buildings are punctuated with aesthetically laid out plantation and multicolored flowers that serve
as an ideal backdrop to an extremely absorbing environment of technology and serious academic pursuit.

Students
Students, undoubtedly, are the most enterprising and
valued members of any educational institution. UIT is a
firm believer in that and holds its students in high esteem.
Student Handbook
To further assist the student and for guidance a Student
Handbook is uploaded on the website. A comprehensive
information is provided in the Handbook so that the
students may know as to what is where, who is who, and
where they have to go and whom to contact in case of any
issue, problem or information they need.
Student Advisors
