Fun For All

On February 24, Class 634 had time for all.

picture books. The students selected
animals to write about and then they
researched and created a story.
Mrs. Bernstein was so proud of
her students’ efforts and accomplish-
ments. At the celebration every student
read his story out loud to the class, their
parents, Mrs. Bernstein, Mrs. Della
Rocca, Mr. Cristiano and Mrs. Liptzin.

presentations that highlight fashions,

past 33 years. This has helped her
to feel better and, in turn, make
healthy food choices. She hopes that
this program will help children find
the exercise they enjoy, feel better,
and be more self-confident.

Students Visit Tom Otterness Art Studio
Public Artist’s Work Displayed in NYC

Classes 716 and 812 went on
a trip to Tom Otterness’s art studio on
February 23rd. he is a famous public
artist. Many of his sculptures are dis-
played around New York City. The stu-
dio was located in Brooklyn, New York.
Mr. Otterness works with a
public art residency program called
Leap. In his studio he showed the stu-
dents sculptures and drawings that he
was currently working on. He answered
any questions that the students had
and even demonstrated his techniques.
The students liked the trip because Mr.
students don’t usually get to paint.
Will he remember what he learned?
Every time he thinks of Madison
Square Garden he will think of the
Colosseum.
Otterness had some boxing equip-
ment. He allowed the students to play
with his equipment and freely explore
the studio.
In the near future, Mrs. Gil-
man’s art classes will have two more
trips working with public artists. One
is to Union Square in Manhattan and
the other to Clove Lakes Park in
Staten Island. Students are currently
working with artist Josie Gonzalez in
class. They are painting a lunchroom
table, which they will display in Clove
Lakes Park for this summer.
