Contract Title: Construction of Juja &Thika Sewerage System (trunk sewer system and
reticulation and a waste water treatment plant)

The Republic of Kenya has received financing from the International Development
Association toward the cost of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project
(NaMSIP, and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for
Construction of Juja &Thika Sewerage System (trunk sewer system and reticulation
and a waste water treatment plant)
The Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development (Directorate of Nairobi Metropolitan
Development) now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for Construction of Juja &Thika
Sewerage System (trunk sewer system and reticulation and a waste water treatment plant),
which comprise of construction of 77 km of sewer network and sewage treatment works at Juja
and Thika of capacities 10,000 m3/day and 6,500 m3/day respectively, to be completed within
a period of 20 months.
The Bidder should have contracts completed and under implementation as prime contractor,
joint venture member, management contractor or sub-contractor within the last 5 years, with
a minimum construction experience in the following key activities successfully completed:

Bulk Earthworks of 43,000m3 per month

Concrete works of 850m3/month

Pipework greater than DN525mm at 0.8km per month

Bidding will be conducted through the International Competitive Bidding (ICB) procedures
as specified in the World Banks Guidelines: Procurement of Goods, Works and NonConsulting Services under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits & Grants, January 2011 revised
July 2014 (Procurement Guidelines), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the
Procurement Guidelines. In addition, please refer to paragraphs 1.6 and 1.7 setting forth the
World Banks policy on conflict of interest.
Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from Ministry of Land, Housing
and Urban Development (procurement@nairobimetro.go.ke) and inspect the bidding
documents during office hours (i.e. 0800 to 1700 hours) at the address given below
A pre-bid meeting will be held on Wednesday, 8th July 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the address
below.
A complete set of bidding documents in English Language may be purchased by interested
eligible bidders upon the submission of a written application to The Principal Secretary,
Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Nairobi Metropolitan Development,
KICC Building, Harambee Avenue, 25th Floor, Room 2520, Nairobi, Kenya and upon
payment of a non-refundable fee of KES 1,000 (Kenya Shillings One Thousand). The
payment shall be made by cash or bank cheque.
Bids must be delivered to the address below on or before Wednesday, 12th August 2015 at
12:00 noon. Electronic bidding will not be permitted. Late bids will be rejected. Bids will be
publicly opened in the presence of the bidders designated representatives and anyone who
chooses to attend at the address below on Wednesday, 12th August 2015 at 12:05 p.m.
All bids must be accompanied by a Bid Security of KES 70,000,000(Kenya Shillings Seventy
million) or equivalent amount in a freely convertible currency.
