APPLICATION & REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Application Period for our September 2013 Full Time Semester runs from
August 10th August 24th, 2013
1. Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of TT$500.00
2. Applicants are required to submit an official transcript/certificate. If you are applying
with a COSTAATT or ROYTEC qualification, a completion letter is also required.
3. Any applicant who may use an online transcript for the ABE and BTEC courses, a
completion letter and a copy of your online transcript is required.
4. A copy of your CXC certificate as evidence of satisfying the English Language
requirement (preferably a grade I, II or III) is also required.
5. You are not required to submit references with the application.
6. The completed application form (see attached), transcripts/certificates and GATE
Clearance application form must be submitted. SBCS will then complete an online
application to the University of Sunderland on your behalf.
7. Once we are notified on the status of your application you will be contacted by SBCS via
email.
8. You may then register for modules and classes for the programme.
Please note the following:
Payments will be accepted via Linx, Credit Card or Cheque (this must be made in TT
currency payable to School of Business and Computer Science Ltd), only.
Please be advised SBCS has a NO CASH policy in effect

BA(Hons) Business Management (Final Year Degree)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
BA (Hons) Business Management is designed as a final year top-up programme for those who
already have a relevant higher qualification, such as a HND in a business subject (ABE/IAM
Advanced Diploma in Business Management), to develop their knowledge and understanding of
business to Honours Degree level.
COURSE CONTENT / MODULES
Comprises six modules:
1. Managing Projects SIM 335 - (Assignment)
This module will enable you to understand the processes of project planning, financing and
implementation using a variety of techniques covering:
Effective project definition
Activity and time planning
Cost and quality evaluations
Risk management
Management and leadership of project teams

This module will introduce a good mix of operational skills and analysis of major strategic
projects from around the world. This is an integrative module drawing down from a range of
business functions and skills typical of the way businesses are increasingly being managed
today.
2. Marketing Strategy MKT 306 - (Assignment)
This module will enable you to appreciate how marketing strategies can contribute to the
success of the business. You will consider the mechanics of marketing strategy i.e. the
models and concepts that are used in developing and implementing valid strategies. In
exploring how marketing strategies are developed you will engage with contemporary
marketing themes and issues such as relationship marketing, branding and e-marketing.
3. Strategic Management of Accounting APC 309 - (Assignment)
Explore aspects of internal resource management while examining the broader financial
context in which companies operate. Budgetary control, working capital management and
investment appraisal will also be investigated. Your emphasis of this module will be on the
analysis and interpretation of financial data to aid management decision-making rather than
technical preparation of data.
4. Strategic Management SIM 336 - (Assignment)
Develop your skills by creating strategic plans and communicating those plans to
stakeholders. You will take an international case-based approach to tracking businesses
through the cycle of growth from start-up to mature market. You will also investigate the link
between core strategic competence and competitiveness and review emergent issues of
corporate governance and change.
5. Strategic Management of Human Resources HRM 325 - (Examination)
This module will consider the redefinition of personnel department's role in achieving
strategic change through benchmarking, auditing and outsourcing. You will also review the
key policy variables that make up a human resources strategy including: performance
management, human resource development, employee relations, strategic recruitment and
retention. This module will provide you with an introduction to important concepts of
organizational development and learning.

6. Contemporary Developments in Business and Management SIM 337- (Examination)


You will explore some of the key issues of enterprise including: innovation, effective
corporate governance and social responsibility. You will then review the effective
management of knowledge and intellectual capital of the organisation. This module also
examines the contribution that small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) make to the
economy in terms of innovation and knowledge creation.
ASSESSMENT
A combination of assignments, case study reviews, planning exercises and examinations.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
BA Honours Degree (final year top-up only: minimum - 12 months as a Full Time student; and a
maximum 18 months as a Part Time student)
ENROLMENT DATES
This programme has three start dates in February and August (Part Time intakes) and September
(Full Time intake).

Tuition is optional, as the programme can be completed fully distance learning. For students
who prefer tuition, classes commence in February for assessments in July and August for

Section 3 Your Education and Training


Note: This is a very important section and it is important that you do not
overlook anything relating to your study background.
Qualifications include O and A Levels, CSE and GCSEs, HNDs, Foundation
Degrees and Degrees. They also include Access courses at Colleges of
Further Education, Open University credits, international qualifications and
any vocational and in-service achievements. If you have any doubt about the
relevance of a qualification, include it.
Include all courses whether passed or failed. If the latter, indicate the elements you did pass (if any).
Admissions tutors have the discretion to waive normal entry requirements if
they are satisfied with your potential and motivation.

Section 5 Personal Statement


The nature and variety of your personal interests may give some idea to the
admissions tutor as to your motivation and the suitability of the programme
for you. You may, for example, have considerable personal experience in voluntary work or concentrate your reading in some relevant specialist area. You
will also, presumably, have considered at some length why you wish to do
this programme and how it will be of value to you in terms of personal or
career development. Please include any such information. If you have visited
the university or already spoken to a member of staff about the programme
you are applying for, please detail.

Section 9 Criminal Convictions


You are required to state whether or not you have any criminal convictions,
excluding motoring offences for which a fine and/or up to three penalty
points were imposed. Please tick either the Yes or No box in Section 9 of
the application form to indicate your situation. If you tick the Yes box, you
are required to provide details of any convictions on a separate sheet. Please
note if you do not tick either box in Section 9 your application form will not
be processed.
If you have been convicted of a criminal offence (excluding (a) a motoring
offence for which a fine and/or a maximum of three penalty points were
imposed or (b) spent sentences), you are required to declare this by completing the YES box in Section 9 of this form. If you have not been convicted of
a criminal offence you must complete the NO box.
You should be aware that for certain programmes particularly related to
Teaching, Health and Social Work, any criminal convictions, including spent
sentences and cautions, must be declared. If you are in doubt you should
contact the admissions team for further advice.
Serving Prisoners
If you are currently serving a prison sentence you must show the prison
address for correspondence in Section 2 of your application form, and in
addition you must complete the YES box in Section 9.
