Chorus is a hands-on, performance-based class designed to introduce music students to the basics of
choral singing and musical literacy through the study of diverse repertoire, sight-singing, music theory,
and music history.

Students will use sheet-music throughout the year. Rehearsal photo-copies will be provided to give
students the opportunity to practice marking their music in class.

SUPPLIES:

1-1 binder, loose-leaf paper, sharpened pencils

Concert Clothing:
Girls: Long sleeved, modestly cut, white dress shirt. Long black dress pants or skirt.
Black stockings or socks and flat black closed-toe dress shoes.
Boys: Long sleeved, collared, white dress shirt. Solid colored black tie.
Long black dress pants. Black belt. Black socks and black dress shoes.

NO FLIP FLOPS, TENNIS SHOES, OR

JEANS ALLOWED AT PERFORMANCE.

Be on time Warm-ups are part of rehearsal and they begin when the tardy bell rings.
Be positive A little good humor goes a long way to make this class a great experience.
Be prepared Bring your music, portfolio, and pencil to class every day.
Be present Pay attention during rehearsal. Keep your phone turned off. Stand and sit when asked.
Be respectful To your teachers, other students, and school property.
Keep personal items put away Makeup, pictures, playing cards, cell phones, other electronic
devices, etc.
No food or drink in the choir room Bottled water is the only exception.
Turn your work in on time!
Follow all school rules
Always try your best!

GRADING
Students will be graded on rehearsal participation, assignments, assessments, and music portfolios. Music portfolios
will be used to demonstrate evidence of skill mastery.
Students will be given at least one opportunity to demonstrate basic, proficient, or advanced skill mastery during class.
If students need additional time to master a skill they will be responsible for arranging time with Mr. Webb before or
after school, or during their lunch period.
When homework is assigned, its purpose is to support learning in one of four ways: pre-learning, checking for
understanding, practice, or processing.
Assignments, including homework and classwork, will be graded based on completion and work habits.

Not turned in on time

Students are graded on participation and preparation daily = 10 points
Projects, performance tasks, and portfolios will be graded via rubrics. Written quizzes and tests will be graded on
percentage of points correct out of total points available.
Mr. Webb will make every possible effort to update Gradebook on a weekly basis. If students or parents have concerns
regarding their grade, please email Mr. Webb and he will respond to your concern at his earliest convenience.

CHOIR CONCERT SCHEDULE:

In chorus, students will have the opportunity to perform in each of four quarterly concerts. Performance attendance is
mandatory. National anthem dates will be posted on the calendar in choir room.

MAJOR UNITS AND PROJECTS: Major themes of choral study include: pitch production, musical literacy, sight-singing,
performance skills, and the mastery of diverse repertoire. Throughout the year we will visit and revisit each theme in order to
develop and build upon students vocal skills.
