from the blue color of police

officers uniforms. After the
tragic events of September 11,
2001, the Blue Mass honors all
firefighters and police officers,
including those who have died
over the past year.

What is the Blue Mass?

he Blue Mass originated

at St. Patrick Church in
Washington, DC. Between
19341975, police officers
would congregate annually to
pray for their comrades who
had fallen in the line of duty
and to ask Gods continued
blessing for their own safety.
The name of the Mass comes

Glorious St Paul,
Most zealous Apostle,
Martyr for the love of Christ,
Give us a deep faith,
A steadfast hope,
A burning love for our Lord
So that we can proclaim with you
It is no longer I who live, but Christ
who lives in me.
Help us to become apostles
Serving the Church with a pure heart
Witnesses to her truth and beauty
Amidst the darkness of our days.
With you we praise God our Father
To Him be the glory,
in the Church and in Christ
Now and for ever.
Amen.

Our state test scores show that we

meet or exceed the area schools,
both public and private
A Catholic education is a life changing opportunity.
The students at St. As stand out academically, technologically, culturally and spiritually. You want to give
them every opportunity. A limited number of scholarships are available please call the office and inquire.
Our state test scores show that we meet or exceed the
area schools, both public and private. We provide many
extras such as a brand new state of the art computer lab,
SMARTboards, a new science lab, art and music programs, library program, extra curricular activities and
much more. As our Middle School parents have been
communicated, their new Math and Science Teacher,
Mr. Abaya will also be teaching Math 9 to the eligible
students this year. Please take a tour of the school and
consider becoming part of the St. Anastasia family.
Volunteers would be appreciated for the new school
year to help with lunch duty, morning duty (we offer
free morning care from 7:30AM on) and to help on the
various fundraising committees. Please consider giving
your time to benefit the students.

A special thank you to Mrs. Carroll Adams, Ms. Connie

Cannone and Ms. AnneMarie Tschinkel for their successful academic summer program in Math and English
language arts classes and for their generosity in donating a portion of their tuition proceeds to the school.
St. Anastasia was also the proud recipient of 3 grants
over the summer: an Art grant from Airborne, the Italian language grant from the Italian American Committee on Education and a grant from Target that will allow
students in the 5th to 7th grades to visit the Brooklyn
Museum as enrichment to the Social Studies curriculum.
Please continue to keep the students in your prayers as
they begin another exciting year with academic and
spiritual growth at St. Anastasia School.

MOVIE CLUB

Yesterday
Yesterday is the first international feature film ever shot in the Zulu
language, and is the first South African film to receive an Oscar
nomination (in the category of Best Foreign Language Film).
Equally important, Yesterday was made with the support of Nelson
Mandela and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, marking an important new commitment by Mandela (and South Africa) to attempt to
erase the long- standing stigma of AIDS in a country that has been
ravaged by it, primarily from lack of knowledge about the disease.

BOY SCOUTS

Join the Boy Scouts!

St. Anastasia sponsors Scouting for boys of
Cub Scout age (first through third grades), Webelos (starts in 4th grade) and Boy Scouts,
around 11 to 18. Our Pack and Troop 153 have
been busy all summer, camping and hiking in
the Catskills, earning merit badges, learning to
swim, attending Scout camp as a family and
going to a camp just focused on aquatics. It
was a great time! Thank you for your support.
We are proud to announce that there are two
new Eagle Scouts in the Troop: Kenneth
Beattie, and Kevin O'Connell.
Information on joining for September can be
obtained by calling Tom McGlinchey, the parish
Scouting representative, at (718) 224-9634.

Movie Club is offered to adults only. We are selecting movies that are
interesting, inspiring, sometimes forgotten, thought-provoking and artistically significant. We use the Youth Center, which is equipped with AC,
comfy couches, decent stereo sound and big-size projection screen.
Snacks, wine and soda are served.

New features in the Bulletin

With the new school year we would like to introduce new and exciting features in our Bulletin. We
would like to insert four new sections in a form of
one page (section) a week. Every section would
focus on one subject, such as cooking, home care,
pet care, health advises, season advises etc. With
your help, these thematic sections would be published regularly on a monthly basis, such as e.g.
cooking on the first Sunday of the month and so
on.
That is why we invite you to join us in publishing
these sections. We are looking for all sorts of help,
as short as your recipes, and as elaborate as
monthly columnists.
We have an impressive local and church publication, that can reach out much further to many residents of Douglaston, Little Neck and neighborhood
areas. With your help, we can become even better
tool for our Parish and our community. Please help
us. If interested, call Fr. Chris at (718) 631-4454.
