Objectives
To provide participants with an opportunity to augment their knowledge on the national standards system and
national calibration/ accreditation system of Korea;
To promote the capabilities of participants in precision measurement technologies; and
To build up and strengthen cooperative relationships between Korea and the participating countries in the
area of measurement science and technology.

- LG Electronics, Hyundai Motors Co, Hyundai Heavy Industry Co, POSCO.
- Cultural and historical sites tour
Presentation of country report by the participants

Qualification of Applicants
Nominated by his/her governments;
Presently employeed by the national metrology institute or its equivalent;
Graduated from a university with more than 3 years of work experience in the area of measurement science
and technology;
Expected to work in the related field for at least one year after completion of the program;
Have sufficient command of spoken and written English;
Be in good health, both physically and mentally, to undergo the training course; and
Have not participated in the KOICA's training programs (or any other similar program) over the last 5 years.
Host Institution
Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS)
KRISS was established in 1975 as the central authority of the national standards system of Korea. KRISS, a
government-supported research institute, carries out the missions of establishment and improvement of national
measurement standards; dissemination of national measurement standards; and technology services to industries.
Since its establishment, KRISS has performed a wide range of R&D activities to obtain highly competitive
measurement capabilities as well as to develop customer-oriented key technologies in its four research divisions
of Physical Metrology, Metrology for Quality of Life, Industrial Metrology, and Convergence Technology.
As of February 2010, the staff of KRISS is composed of 390 scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative
officers. Among them, 225 (57% of the total staff) have Ph.D. degrees in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering,
electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, etc.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)
Since its inauguration in 1991, KOICA has constantly supported the HRD of its partner countries, mostly through
the training of individuals and the establishment of training and educational facilities. The purpose of this program
is to enable the trainees to apply what they have learned to use for the development of their home country or
local community. Between 1991 and 2005, KOICA offered 1,289 training courses to a total of 21,899 trainees
from some 163 countries. The topics covered are as diverse as administration, economic development, science
and technology, information and communication technology, agriculture/forestry/fishery, and healthcare.

Application
Applications are to be made in the first half of the year through official nominations from the governments of the
applicants
KOICA provides information about the NSS Workshop Program to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in each country by
posting it on their website.
