1. SAFETY ADVICE
The cast resin transformer is an electric equipment and has to be installed, protected and used keeping in mind the
National and International rules:
Every operation, maintenance or job has to be executed without tension;
Avoid to give tension to the transformer before having connected the earth connection to the ground;
Never move close to the transformer for maintenance or other operations, before having removed tension.

5. TRANSPORT AND RECEPTIONS

5.1 TRANSPORT
During the transport, the transformer must be adequately fixed, to avoid damages. During transportation the special
holes (Fig.2) acts also to facilitate the movements on wheels of the transformer. Regarding the lifting of the
transformer there are special lifting lugs (Fig.1) sets on every of the two superior armors (they usually belong to the
same structure of the armors).

When the transformer reaches to a destination its always recommended to check its condition (presence of damages
during transport) and particular attention must be paid to watch out for the following elements:
M.V. Terminals

Centralization box (if required)

L.V. Terminals

6. STORAGE
Normally the transformer is furnished packaged in PVC film that must not be removed in case the transformer itself is
stored, to avoid dust and protect it by atmospheric agents.

7. CONNECTIONS
7.1 L.V. connections
The low voltage terminals (L.V.) are placed on top of the transformer and normally they are in aluminum.
Connections with cables must have effected with some head rope in stained copper connecting one o more cables for
hole.
7.2 M.V. connections.
The Medium/High Voltage terminals (M.V.) belongs to the winding and they are usually built with brass pins.
The terminals are placed on the two extremities of the winding to the purpose of facilitate connection to cables both
from top or bottom side.

ATTENTION: Do not replace the bolts in brass with bolt of different material, they could alter connection.

8. ISOLATION DISTANCES
Its necessary to maintain a minimum distance between the parts in tension of the transformer and the metallic masses
surrounding or the elements as described by rules CEI 14/4 point 609
The distances are listed here under:

12. CHECKS ON TRANSFORMER

During connection and installation operation of the transformers it is possible that various tools like dice, bolts and
washers can be jammed in the canalizations of the windings or to remain on the transformers. It is necessary before
starting the transformers, that ANY KIND OF OBJECT is removed so that, once in tension, breakdowns are not verified
on equipment due to the presence of these extraneous object. In case the transformer is placed on service after a
period of permanence in store or poor service, it is necessary to effect the cleaning of the windings MV/LV from
possible dust, condensation and dirty, with dry compressed air blast low pressure.

13. INSTALLATION IN CLOSED PLACE

The transformer is an electric equipment and doesn't guarantee to full isolating against direct contacts. It is absolutely
forbidden to touch the windings in resin when its in tension. For this reason, installation of such equipment must be
effected inside a box, an enclosure or a place accessible only after tension has been stopped. Inside installation place
its necessary to respect some minimum distances for isolation toward the walls. Such distances depend on the class of
isolation.

14. CRITERION OF VENTILATION

The transformer has to be installed in special place that allows the continuous flow of air circulation
(around 4-5 m3s of cold air/minute for every kW of losses). In case air circulation should be insufficient, the
transformer will suffer an anomalous heating, that can bring to an intervention of the thermal protection.

Af = 0,188 x (P/H)

15. CLEANING
If the transformer has remained for long time in state of poor service or for a period in the store before proceeding on
working it is advisable to proceed with the cleaning of windings for both MV and LV sides (besides to the total cleaning)
to remove possible accumulations of dirt or dust.
For the cleaning , can be used a dry compressed air blast low pressure.

16. PLATES OF VOLTAGE REGULATION

The tolerances of tension coming from the corporate companies for energy distribution, can be compensated through
change of the special sideburns so that to maintain constant the tension to the terminals of M.V. side
The transformers are usually furnished with tension taps at -5%, -2,5%, 0, +2,5%, +5%

CAST RESIN CHANGER SCHEME

ATTENTION:
Its VERY important to move the sideburns on every of the 3 the columns of M.V. paying attention that they had the same
positions on every column to avoid currents circulation that could damage it seriously and in a irreversible way.

17. CONTROLS TO BE EFFECTED BEFORE USE

Once the transformer is installed, connect both MV and LV exits and check that the earth connections as well as those
of the auxiliary circuits are connected in the correct sequence.
Before the unit can receive tension, the following verifications of electric character must be performed:

Check with the aid of the scheme of the electric connections the correct feeding of the transformers,
because the same could be provided to be used with multiple tensions of feeding.

Check that the plaques of connection terminal block is in the proper position for the tension of feeding of
the transformer

Check the isolation of the windings among them and toward earth through megaohmmeter

Check the circuits of the thermal elements

Check the circuits of the possible relays of protection, indicative or signaling to one or more levels of
alarm

Check the circuits of the fans if the transformer is equipped with them

In case the transformer has to be used in parallel with others, check carefully the phase shifting with a
voltmeter

Check besides that the data showed on the plate are equal or compatible, otherwise it won't be possible
to effect parallel connection.

18. OPERATION
After having verified all the points above listed and being assured not to have forgotten extraneous objects above the
transformer, the in general interrupter of MV feeding can be closed. and subsequently apply the load to LV winding
closing the LV switch.

19. CENTRALIZATION BOX

The transformers are usually furnished without any accessory. Centralization box, PT 100 probes, fans and everything
else can be furnished with transformer ONLY if they appear in the order.
In case centralization box and all the related accessories for temperature control are supplied, please refer to the
following connection scheme:
