Justification and rationale of the selected activity and the lesson plan prepared.

In this TSL 3103 Linking Theory to Practice coursework, we are assigned to prepare a weekly
scheme of work (SOW) before we can proceed to draft and prepare a lesson plan which we are
required to carry out a microteaching based on the selected activities prepared. First and foremost,
I have to prepare a weekly scheme of work which contains 5 skills in KSSR curriculum standard
content. Each day in the weekly scheme of work contain different skills and activities which are
prepared according to my pupils interest and abilities. The activities created are to motivate my
pupils interest and to arouse their interest towards the skills focused and lesson planned. My
selected target group is Year 5 as I teach them English.
Among the 5 skills, I decided to choose writing skill as the focus skill to be taught later in my
micro-teaching. In planning the lesson plan, I have to bear in mind the target group and the content
of the lesson must be suitable and appropriate to my Year 5 pupils. The theme chose is world of
self, family and friend and the topic is Be Thankful. The topic is about how pupils show their
appreciation towards their family members. It would be easy for me to conduct the lesson as it has
relation between the pupils personal experiences and previous knowledge about the topic.
The activities planned and materials used are based on the topic and their suitability to convey
meanings during the activities or lesson. For example for my set induction activity, I chose to use
jigsaw pictures of family members as the activity is challenging, fun and requires pupils to work in
team. This activity promotes creative thinking in handling the jigsaw and get pupils to work in team
spirit in order to solve the jigsaw. As for my pre-writing activity, I want to get the pupils to be able to
describe the pictures formed through the jigsaw pictures in simple sentences. This activity is to get
them ready in the next writing activity. To make the lesson and activity more fun yet meaningfully, I
designed an activity which I call Love boxes activity. In this while-writing activity, pupils are
teaching to read and gain information from the description of family members to complete the table
or in non-linear form. Based on the information or supporting ideas found in the description, pupils
will be able to identify and group the information gathered based on the correct content of the table.
As the pupils are doing the activity in groups, once again it promotes the team work spirit in
identifying the correct place for the description given. The representative group member will cast lot
the paper strips which contain description of family members and the pupils will discuss among their
group members and decide the place of the description correctly in the table shown. In giving the
worksheet for assessment, I have prepared 2 types of worksheet according to their respective level.
This is to ensure the mixed abilities pupils are assess accordingly and further reinforcement. Last

but not least, my closure activity is to sing a song entitled The finger family song which is very
entertaining and enjoyable whereby the pupils can sing the song with action. The use of song for my
closure activity is to get them motivated and enjoy the lesson.
All in all, every activities planned are to ensure my pupils will be able to participate meaningfully
in the lesson and there are positive changes in their learning behaviours.
